Madrano (madran) | 3137 comments When we lived in Oregon we were amazed at how much "wild" marijuana was growing there. I suppose it helps enormously that the state made preserving forests & green spaces a priority. :-)

I just abandoned this book...my comment was "Just a little too odd/weird for me....and all that "back and forthing" made me crazy! Contrived and to me, just chick lit that has been "hyped" as something else. I found all three sisters incredibly annoying."

JMHO

JoAnn/QuAppelle Kirk | 3319 comments Brenda, I usually force myself to muddle through if I have finished over 100 pages, but not always.

JoAnn/QuAppelle Kirk | 3319 comments Page 50 is usually my cutoff too........ but sometimes I can tell by page 5 if it is going to grab me.

Bobbie (bobbie572002) | 957 comments Thanks for the comments -- so I can now take the Weird Sisters off my list.

message 107: by Marialyce (new)

Marialyce You know, Bobbie, I did like the book and at times I thought that I gave birth to the weird sisters. I could see the girls' traits as well as the mother's in myself and my daughters. I would think to give it a go. I liked it so much better than A Visit from the Goon Squad which won the Pulitzer.

Alias Reader (aliasreader) | 29403 comments I'm still going to keep Weird Sisters on my list. If I don't like it, I can always put it down. Though to be honest, I usually don't put many books down. And since I get most of my books from the library, what's to lose. :)

message 109: by Marialyce (new)

Marialyce I will be looking to see what you think about it, Alias.

that's because you are not old! LOL I abandoned 4 or 5 books just this week! I AM old.

message 111: by Madrano (new)

Madrano (madran) | 3137 comments I hear ya, JoAnn. This is yet another reason why i choose to spend less time reading contemporary novels. They were easy to eliminate from my reading menu.

deborah, of creaking bones

message 112: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbie572002) | 957 comments I may still try the Weird Sisters -- but my list is so long and it isn't at the top by a long shot. And so it goes.

I am not going to enter the creaking bones contest. I know I AM old but I still like to read novels. Oh well.

The older I get, the more I like reading novels, especially recent ones. But I am picky.
