Nope. Once all of the books, quotes, etc., have been individually emptied out of an author's profile and assuming that there are no fans (who can't be shifted individually), it's fine to leave it in the database as an empty profile but it's also fine to merge it into an existing author so that it goes away.

Perhaps merging it into "Keith Laumer" will be a good learning experience for me -- that is, if no one gets to it before I do...
