Jen - how in the hell did you not notice any of the sex scenes? It wasn't just one scene that's for damn sure :-)

The 2001 Afterword is quite good. I shall share some of Dean's words when I feel like it :-)

I probably did notice them at the time, the problem is that my memory is really awful and I just don't remember them. Also, sex isn't something I read Koontz for (that's what the romance genre and sub-genres are for), so this probably plays into my memory issues regarding the sex in this book.

"Writing novels was the only work for which I'd ever had a passion. Although I put in sixty- and seventy-hour weeks at the typewriter, I worried that I might eventually have to find new work. Because I had no other talent, skill, or ability, I would no doubt have turned to a life of crime."

Aaron | 12 comments Sorry, I'm a month late on this one. I was waiting for audio at the library and ended up starting another book before it arrived.
I just finished it tonight. I'd say I got what I expected. There are great moments, Koontz writes villans so well, and Bruno was no exception; however, some of the dialog between Tony and Hillary goes on and on and on, particularly towards the end of the book as they are figuring everything out. I'd cut the novel down by about 100 pages. I never felt any emotion towards Hillary or Tony. Still, it was a good story, but it will be a long time, if ever, before I pick this one up again. I gave it 2/5 stars.

Wow Jen, would not have thought this was Koontz!

Hil (hilseymour) I just read this. It was better than I was expecting. The love story was a bit twee, in contrast to the awkward graphic sex scenes. For me it was like having to listen to a family member talk about their sex life. I listened to an audio version and so I couldn't really skip them either! The narrator did a brilliantly evil job of Bruno Frye though, full of seething hatred and madness. I gave it 3.5 stars.

I really enjoyed the book :-) Better than I expected too, and one his that I put off reading for quite some time.

Now we gotta convince someone else to read it and we can feature it :-) I will be happy to re-read Whispers when it's chosen as a group read or mini group read.
