Joanna wrote: "Would poetry count as nonfiction for part A? One of my favorite things to do instead of housework is write poetry, but I don't really know if it fits here."

Books like Writing the Life Poetic: An Invitation to Read and Write Poetry, A Journey with Two Maps: Becoming a Woman Poet (April 2011), or Ordinary Genius: A Guide for the Poet Within would work.

Wendy UK (wendyuk) | 724 comments Would an art book work for part A? - I just wondered because obviously it's got lots of pictures in it, but there is quite a lot of writing as well. I was hoping to use:

Women Who Read are Dangerous

because reading is what I'm most likely to do instead of housework! (And I quite like the idea of us all being dangerous!)

Does part B have to be fiction or could I use:

Mrs. Woolf and the Servants: An Intimate History of Domestic Life in Bloomsbury

It looks really interesting.

[book:Women Who Read are Dangerous
works for A (looks good too!) and non-fiction works for B.

Wendy, I love your book choice! I ordered it from my library- looks good and I agree, I would rather be reading than doing housework (and I usually am!)

It says she worked as a cleaning woman- that works

Joanna (walker) | 433 comments What about A Patchwork Planet? The main character is described as working for a company called "Rent-A-Back" that runs errands and helps elderly people with tasks that are too strenuous. Does this count as a domestic worker? He isn't assigned to just one person (though he does have some regular clients).

I'll take it- the governess and housekeepers are mentioned in more than one description/review of this book

Janice | 713 comments I am currently reading Behind the Scenes: Or, Thirty Years a Slave, and Four Years in the White House and was wondering if it would fit
part B? Ms. Keckley was a seamstress who worked for Mary Todd Lincoln and other society ladies.
Thanks

Amanda (amandapearl) | 267 comments Hi do memoirs count? I want to read The Devil, the Lovers, and Me: My Life in Tarot which is a memoir about a woman learning about herself through the tarot, which is a subject I LOVE to learn about. I have many non fiction books about tarot, but this is the only memoir I've been able to find.

James Frey aside, memoirs are non-fiction and the current trend of "creative non-fiction" puts the author's experiences into their work. I'll take memoirs and other works of narrative non-fiction.

That works, midwives are included in some domestic worker unions (I learn something every day)

That works- the Marthas are traditional domestics and the Handmaids serve another domestic role in that society

Kim (goodreadscomkimber) | 708 comments To fulfill the nonfiction portion of the task I'd like to listen to the audiobook, Meditation for Beginners. Since it is an audiobook, I look to the paperback version for page numbers, right? The paperback edition has 98 pages, though...would you allow me to get away with that?

Sorry Kim, it's not long enough-even the Easyread Large type edition is only 108 pages. I hope you can find another book

Thanks, I'll find something else. I'm having trouble with this part of the task - the fiction part I'm good with. Guess I'm just not much of a nonfiction reader.
