Ya I love being able to carry around multiple books. But I also love that devotion to one book! plus as shallow as this is whatever book I'm reading always seems to match what I'm wearing!

Sabrina (smilyface) | 2 comments I like reading on a kindle and on a book but I would rather read on real book with paper and glue.

Generally I really hate e-readers but there are some benefits to having one. I own a Nook and I use it sometimes. Usually I use my Nook for books that are only available as e-books and for books that I can't wait for. As for audio books I don't use them at all for books that I never read before. I mean that I only use them for books that I have already read and I want to read again. I am like your friend. I listen to the audio books while I do my homework.

Readingcureall | 3 comments I really love both. I confess I love the feel of paper well certain thin paper pages. But I love that the e-reader never looses my page, has all my books with me since I often read several at one time, and can sync it to my phone, ipod that sort so I am also torn .

message 155: by Erin (new)

Erin Germain (demiguise) I love both, but I do purchase most books for my Kindle. The main reason is in ease of getting the books I want to read, but also it's very easy on my eyes. I spend all day on a computer and sometimes, when I have a lamp over my shoulder at night, it makes my eyes tired to read at night. I don't have that problem with the e-ink of the Kindle. As for not feeling like a book, I have a leather cover for it, and the Touch lets me "turn" pages by swiping my finger across the "page", just like a paper and glue book, and no worries that it might tear. :)

I do still buy a few physical books, mainly those with illustrations, patterns and charts (I knit and do counted cross-stitch), and a couple of series I want to complete. I also will purchase special editions in hardcover for my collection and love to see them lined up.

Farah (bookworm-87) I love books, I can't read on a screen it hurts my eyes and to be honest I just love the feel of a book in my hands. turning the pages, it's just more satisfying to me.

Mirvan. Ereon (mirvanereon) | 3 comments I love buying actual printed books of those I want to keep and treasure forever. For ereaders, those are usually the classics and the books I need to review because it makes me read faster.

Robb Skidmore (robbskidmore) | 1 comments I've had a Kindle about 6 months now and I am never going back. Read a print paperback book last month and found it to be a pain in the ass the prop the thing up correctly. I like ease and the Zen contemplation that clicking pages on my Kindle provides. :)

Gini (camp80) | 4 comments I agree with Robb. I've had my Kindle for about the same length of time and now I can't stand to read real books, its sort of tragic!

While I love reading actual three dimensional books there's no doubt that what you say has the ring of truth! E-readers are often preferable in that it's so easy to find a nice reading position and you never have to worry about finding your page because of the built in bookmarks that you can NEVER lose!:)

I like to collect the books i like i.e the paper and glue ones.. :) pref. hardcovers..

but for reading, i am way too accustomed to both the ways.. although i love the feel of the book in hand but i can't read it while on the go.. so e-reader get's upper hand

but in comfort zone of my home, I much rather prefer old school ways of paper n glue

message 162: by Dorottya (new)

Dorottya (dorottya_b) | 22 comments I like paper and glue books a lot more, but I see the benefits of an e-reader... for example, a friend of mine, who just went to study abroad for half a year. She needs long textbooks and wants to read some novels, too, during her stay, and she, of coursem didn't wanna bring all those books with herself, as she had to pack toiletries, clothes etc. as well. So she bought a Kindle, naturally, and it's so much easier to pack and carry around. Oh, and there are loads free ebooks out there, too, that's a plus.
But in a normal setting, I prefer paper books. They are easier on my eyes, I like that I could flip pages, I like the smell of them,. and I love the feeling of owning X books actually.

message 163: by Ebony (new)

Ebony (poppyy) @dorottya I agree. It has some advantages to it. However, if I am not on the go I def. want paper and glue!

I just find that the reading experience is not the same on a tablet / e-reader, despite the effort that has gone into making non-reflective screens / nice backlighting. You can't jump back and forward as easily (like in a mystery story, who said that, wasn't that a clue - pop back a few pages and check), the e-reader always feels the same in your hands whereas you have different paper, print styles, cover art etc in books......I do admit that the e-reader is very portable and what to do with books you have read is a big problem as no-ones home is elastic. They also save trees (but are they "renewable? I hope people don't start thinking that you use and throw away, like mobile phones...) but they are not for me.

message 165: by Michael (new)

Michael | 4 comments its paper and glue all the the way I like the smell and feel of a real book. plus my book will still work in a power outage and I wouldn't have to worry about recharging my book, readers and tablets step nice too the books are cheaper don't take up any physical space.

message 166: by Vivalee (new)

Vivalee MG | 10 comments I have a kindle and kobo glo that I use from time to time when I'm outside. but I prefer the paper books, I love the smell of paper, turn the pages and the object itself. a reader it's so cold and impersonal.

message 170: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Murdaugh-Smith (pamelamurdaugh-smith) The sight of a book on the table, the feel of a book in my hands, and yes, as stated above, the smell! A book is an experience, a friend, a possession. I's a tangible object that stands alone, yet brings solace and comfort when touched.

Definitely paper!

message 173: by Mike (new)

Mike (dealmein) Kindle for sure. Especially now that it's hard to see the small print in a paper book. Also a Kindle is easier for turning pages while reading in bed.

message 174: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawn9655) Aesthetically, my preference is for traditional books. Because of space constraints, 90% of what I own and read is on my Kindle or my Nook.

One of my fantasy is to have huge stacks of books on 10s of shelf's all along the walls of my "to be" room and me reading books to my grand-childrens and yes what good days those will be...

I can't imagine my whole library of books in just 3-4 pieces of then obsolete hardware... :( so Paper n Glue book for me too...

message 176: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1 comments I love the smell of books but Iam enjoying the new style of reading using a tablet. which gives me quick access to word definitions too..all I can say is tradeoffs

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I prefer tangible books. There is just something about the way they smell, feel, and look that attracts me. I have an eReader though, and I can definitely see the merit. I like to take it with me on long drives or extended trips. It's easier to carry than a dozen novels! ;)
