message 52: by CyberAlmu (new)

CyberAlmu | 302 comments I'd like to join the challenge but I really can't. Most of the books I can't find here in Spain so I have to order them in BookDep or Amazon or such and take a lot to arrive :(

message 53: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments I have the same problem here in Australia CyberAlmu, that's why I have such a large tbr pile. It certainly helps for challenges like this one. Of course, not everyone can do this.

My only other thought is that maybe you could download the book you want, but sometimes the geographical regulations won't let you do that either.

You can always read the team threads and cheer on the participants and discuss the books. We'd like that.

message 54: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Yes-please join us there!

message 55: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 634 comments I'm in (total newbie though) :)

message 56: by Tania (new)

Tania Rock (guilegirl) | 142 comments I'd love to try this, it sounds like an exciting way to read new books, have fun and make new friends.

message 57: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32724 comments As they said, CyberAlmu, whether playing or cheering us on, you're always welcome to read and comment on the team threads. :)

Yay, Nairabell and Tania!

message 58: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I'm interested but my concern is what if I don't have a book to fit the challenge for that week? I don't want ot have to buy a book that I would otherwise never acquire. Like the only book I know of off hand that I have with a demon of some kind in it is probably Small Favor by Jim Butcher. And I can only guess at that because there are demons in most of the books at least in some capacity. But I really don't think I have a book with any sort of angel or if I do, then I don't know it yet.

Is there a list of all the shelves that will be put in the randomizer so I can look and make sure that I have a book on each shelf before I join? I wouldn't want to let my team down because I didn't want to buy one and couldn't get one from the library on time.

And what if I have a book that fits the category but isn't on the list? Is there a way to add it to the list or will it just not count?

message 59: by Mary X (last edited Feb 20, 2011 07:40AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Well I just found a link to the shelves used last time. Will the shelves be the same? If so then I will just look at those. I am not opposed to say buying a wish list book of mine to fill a category. Or getting a book from the library although the timing of that could be tricky.

OK well I just checked out the shelves that were called last time and I have something on every list. And I know I can create the appropriate shelf if I have a later book of a series that's on there and it fits the theme. So now I guess I just would like to know what the other shelf possibilities are.

Sherri | 781 comments Please sign me up! Thanks for the updated links they really helped. :-)

message 61: by Mary X (last edited Feb 20, 2011 08:27AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Ok I know I'm always a pest with the posts when a new challenge is started.

I see in reviewing the past Bingo round, that there is no strict timeline. So if I have to request a book for a week's category from the library because I don't have one and I dont' get it in time: I can just read it a bit late and the team will still get the stamp. Obviously as the game progresses there's a risk that another team will get Bingo before hand but that risk is there anyway. You just woulnd't want to be missing a square everyweek because of waiting for library books or media mail.

I guessed at some other possible shelf options: Angel, Fae, Fairy, Demon and Ghost and I have at least 1 book for each. I also know I have at least one Feline Shifter type book, 1 Werewolf shifter type book and several psycical powers type books. Should that cover me?

message 62: by cindy (new)

cindy (cinlin) I would love to join as well! Please don't trample on the newbie:).

message 63: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments OK, I'm going to say "Maybe". I really want to join but I don't know if I'll be able to keep up and I wouldn't want to disappoint my team... Hmmm...

Btw, who won the first round? ^^

message 64: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments OK, I read the rules and checked out the shelves and this looks great. I was worried about the same things Mary was concerned about but it appears that there are hundreds of choices on each shelf. No pressure there!

Count me in please. :)

With this final shelf, Team #4 Bingo Bookworms-of which I am a team member of-has won! Yay us! Yay for Round 2!

message 66: by Mandy (new)

message 67: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (k10bentley) | 422 comments This looks like so much fun!!! Count me in, too!

message 68: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Is there a list to see all 24 possible shelves? I only saw the ones that were chosen last time and then I guessed on some possible ones.

message 69: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments Glad to see so many newbies, YAY!! As soon as Steph is online she'll sign you up.

With the question of shelves, there will be several thousand books on most of the shelves used for R2. So it would be pretty hard not to have something on hand Mary, as I know you have a great tbr list.

No one in R1 seemed to have any difficulty finding a book to read, in fact I know Laura & I only read books we were already planning to read for that week anyway. It made it so easy to play.

message 70: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments OK I'm in. I just don't want to let my team down because I don't have a book with gargoyles in it or something. But after perusing a variety of paranormal shelves-I think I'm good. I might have trouble if there's a YA list because I don't read much of that. But I'm sure there'll be at least 1 on there that I can come up with.

message 71: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments Glad to hear it Mary, and I know what you mean about the YA, it would definitely be my hardest one too.

There will definitely be at least 1 YA shelf, so if you have one of those put it aside in case that shelf gets picked.

message 72: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (gravy) | 530 comments I'd like to join!!

message 73: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments Yay! Kimberly!

Steph is off doing Presidents Day stuff but you'll be added when she's back on line.

message 74: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Yay! Lots of fresh meat! I mean...new players! ;)

message 75: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I'll see what my library has for YA paranormal that I can tolerate. I won't read Twilight or similar for this. So they're better not be a Twilight shelf. If there is my team won't be getting that stamp.

message 76: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments Don't worry there are no shelves that generic. They are all general like in R1.

message 77: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Mary, the YA shelf is YA-Fantasy, and you're better off with that than YA-Paranormal, anyway. Some of my fave books have been YA, and some of my most hated. There is a trend lately of putting out complete drivel in the YA paranormal genre, riding on the Twilight coattails. But there is some really great YA-Fantasy out there. Have you read The Hunger Games yet? That's got to be on every YA shelf out there, and I (and countless others) highly recommend it. Can't go wrong with Hunger Games. :)

message 78: by Mary X (last edited Feb 21, 2011 08:46AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments OK I'll look at the YA-fantasy shelf. I'm not into teen romance. I looked at the Hunger Games and I wasnt' really interested but we'll see. I know I have some books that I got for my daughter and I to read together: Witch & Wizard by James Patterson, Steel Trapp by Ridley Pearon and the first 3 Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan. I also have The Search For Wondla by Toni DiTerlizzi.

Hm Ok: I have a few on the list: the 3 Percy Jackson books, Inkheart, the Narnia books (and those are short), Clockwork Angel (CDs coming from Booksfree), The Red Pyramid (DD asked for this) and some Anne McCaffreys that might qualify.

message 79: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Another newbie here. I checked out all the Round 1 threads and this looks like such fun. So count me in!

Keep cheering CyberAlmu, we'll be looking for you :)

message 82: by Lili (new)

Lili | 297 comments I'm not sure I got it all right but I definitely want to play.
Count me in for round 2!

message 83: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Actually explaining it makes the game sound much more difficult that it really is--it's super easy, and you'll pick it up as soon as we start. Plus, you'll have your team thread, and each team will have veteran BINGO players to help out the newbies. :)

message 84: by Desperado (last edited Feb 21, 2011 08:13PM) (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments I'm curious as to how this game is going to be set up now that we have so many people joining. Does that mean we're going have more teams or is each team going to have more members? Or both? I don't mind either way, I'm just curious.

message 85: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments It depends Lethal on the final numbers, we could go either way.

Alrighty! Either way, I'm muy excited!

message 87: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments So excited to see all the new players joining! It IS super easy and super FUN! I worried about book availabilty, but had no problems...shelves with lots of books and not "too" specific were rounded up.

Can't wait to start...I'm missing it....

message 93: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32724 comments Yay!!! Go away for a day (or two) and WOW! So many new players! I love it! :D
Updating the list now. Let me know if I missed you.

I think everyone's questions have been answered, but if I missed any of those, please don't hesitate to ask again.

Like LLL said, it's SO much easier to play than to explain. It's super easy and everyone's had a lot of fun with R1. So, here's hoping R2 will go just as well for everyone.

WELCOME TO THE GAME! We'll continue to keep the sign-up sheet open until 27 Feb. On the 28th, I'll randomize the players and assign teams. Not sure if we'll increase the # of teams or the # of players on each team, but I'll let ya know soon.

message 94: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Does this start March 1st? I didn't see the date anywhere. I think I get the gist now. I was worried about not having a book in time to read it with in teh week. But now that I know you can backdate stamps I'm better. Not that I plan to make my team wait on me. I'm actually a fast reader. It was more with concern with acquiring a book quick enough if I couldn't fit a category. But after going through some possible shelves and my TBR-I think I might be OK.

message 95: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I just got 2 Paranormals in from booksfree and now I don't wnat to read them before this starts. Even though I know I have other shifter and dragon books.

message 96: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Feb 22, 2011 05:34PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32724 comments Mary, the last day for sign-up is 27 Feb and the first shelf announcement will be on 6 Mar.
(Full post can be read here)

We'll have some add'l set-up announcements between now and then - team/member assignments, new game threads, posting of BINGO cards, etc.

You can wait to start those books, if you'd like, not sure how long you have your books on-hand or if the 1st shelf will have those books on it or not. Up to you if you want to wait and see. All shelves are randomized weekly to keep it fair for every team. :)

message 97: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32724 comments PS: If you'd like to receive a reminder email 1-2 days before we start, the event is linked here.

message 98: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Thanks. I saw the part about sign ups open until the 27th but not the start date.

The booksfree books are rentals so it's more cost effective to read them quick. I have others with the same theme. So I don't need to save them. I just hate having to wait for a challenge to start. I always want to start them right away.

message 99: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32724 comments NP! :)

I hear ya! March 6th will be here before we know it!

message 100: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Hi everyone, I've put some serious thought into this after I received the invite and to make sure I understood the rules. I'm in! This sounds like a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to it :)
