Char (CharmaineElaine) Phew. My brain still sort of works at midnight! Happy days. :)

They were awesome. xD He was RT'd on to my feed. Haha, so he doesn't go into the grey areas and that annoys you.

Well, it's like when he puts "effect" is a noun, "affect" is a verb. He means in that context where people often get the two mixed up. "When I read about someone dying, it has an effect on me. It affects me."

He does not bother to go on to specify because there is a verb "to effect" and there is a noun "an affect". I don't see "an affect" very often, but I do often see "to effect" in the books I read. So he misses out a huge chunk of info that might have been useful to some people!

Char (CharmaineElaine) Hahaha!!!! And now we have a normal sized rant of explanation! xD

message 704: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
It's hard to rant properly in only 140 characters. :p

message 705: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Lol, I send multiple tweets. Dunno if you saw the Lucozade ones... :P

Also, is anyone having trouble with GR notifications? It says there are unread comments but there aren't...

I'm having issues with this thread - I click on the '(2 new)' bit and get sent to a blank page :(

Yeah, I keep having to find the last page where there are comments. It's inconvenient. :(

I had mutliple threads with many unread comments this morning, but some of them didn't have any new comments at all and others only had one or two and not 80. I think GR is having a whoopsy.

message 709: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I know. I had the same, it took me 3 threads to realise there's an issue. It's very frustrating though.

message 710: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
It is. Means I have to check manually.

message 711: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I just went to my notifications...

message 712: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) On a new and unrelated note, I can't concentrate on my reading... I have no idea what has caused this but hey ho.

message 713: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I'm having something similiar. Could be to do with having read 4 books in 3 days this weekend... or could be to do with being emotionally drained after reviewing Forest of Hands and Teeth. Hell even just reviewing it made my cry in frustration at it all!

I think I need a nice little easy to read love story.

message 714: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) Totally, slightly random here Rea but the first 7 lines of the paragraph that started 'So Mary finds herself in the fenced off paths...' actually sounds a lot like one of the Halloween specials I took part in at Alton Towers :P Scared the hecky peck out of me but was great fun!

message 715: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I'm gonna keep trying. I'll go for something more entertaining than Envy and lighter than Survivors. I may have to leave it until I'm a little less excited... Either that or my brain has got over the trauma of Mortal Instruments...

Haha, I've never been to Alton Towers, but that sounds like fun!! I like mazes (though admittedly I've never been in one where I'm being attacked from all sides by undead creatures that want to eat my flesh.)

Oh, I forgot to tell you, I found Luxe in the sale and bought it just before you reread it. Sounds like I should have saved my money. :p

Yeah I need light but entertaining and a happy ending, please.

I think it may be your excitement at a whole four tweets rather than brain trauma. :p Not sure why I'd think such a thing, though!

You really should've. It's not good. I don't get what I saw in it lol. I read it before I learnt to distinguish good stories from bad. :P

I'm reading 13 Little Blue Envelopes and it's just making me smile like a crazy person.

Oooh. I dunno what you mean. four tweets, I get lots of tweets, I'm a popular person. :P

It was awesome!!! And we had a very nice day despite the wind :) We also filled our stomachs with food, so it was quite a perfect day

Hayley Stewart (haybop) Char, I think I may need help - I was just poking through my little sister's 'read' list on here and noticed something...
She's given 'City of Bones' 5 stars and Twilight 4!! How can I help her out of this :O

OMG! :O I can see your issue. May I suggest giving her some decent YA books? I love Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys the best but if that fails give her The Book Thief by Markus Zusak . She needs educating!

message 728: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Or Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1) by Beth Revis or The Summoning (Darkest Powers, #1) by Kelley Armstrong or The Gift (Books of Pellinor, #1) by Alison Croggon or The Magicians' Guild (Black Magician Trilogy, #1) by Trudi Canavan or Priestess of the White (Age of the Five, #1) by Trudi Canavan (though this one has sex in it) or The Wind Singer (Wind on Fire trilogy, #1) by William Nicholson or Shadows by Tim Bowler or... I'm running out of ideas...

Thanks hun, think I may check with big sis if she's handed over the Book Thief to her. But will definitely check out the second book for her - maybe as an xmas pressie!

Btw she's on my friends list as Freya (as that is her name... obv :S) so feel free to say 'hi' and drop hints she's being brainwashed by bad books/authors ;D

message 730: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Or Stolen A letter to my captor by Lucy Christopher or Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher or If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman or Before I Die by Jenny Downham or Where I Belong by Gillian Cross or Angus, Thongs and Full-frontal Snogging Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson Book 1) by Louise Rennison or Prophecy of the Sisters (Prophecy of the Sisters, #1) by Michelle Zink or Rockoholic by C.J. Skuse Or... also running out of ideas now...

I'm gonna go check out her lists now to see how far gone she really is. The poor thing. She should join the group and chat with us. She will soon learn of good books. :D

message 732: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) Yes! When she's not busy studying for her IB I shall send her an invite to this group, she needs our guidance (and she has 2 big sisters who have always been willing to pass down books to her :D)

Thanks for the suggestions, shall have a look for christmas (can't trust the vouchers not be used for evil!)

message 733: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Okay then. We shall take her under our wings. (How many groups can you find where all 3 of the mods hate Twilight, VA & Mortal Instruments? Not many I bet. :P)

That's right! Don't give her vouchers. Buy the actual books. :P

message 734: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Yes, we shall help her see the light!

No, never trust book vouchers. They'll just be used for more Cassandra Clare and Stephenie Meyer! Can't be funding that!

message 735: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) Thanks so much - with me down here and her at boarding school up north it's a bit of a toughie seeing ehr enough to influence her (tho' I did well with the manga love, guilty pleasure passed on ;D)

Invite sent, now to get her online to join :P

Hehe, time shall be spent in book shops reading the backs before I pass them on to her (though may pass on Jamrach's Menagerie, she's up to reading that!) But will definitely buy her one or two and make one be the first of a series (mwuahahaha!)

message 737: by Char (new)

I'm not sure we can really be considered the dark side... unless truly awful bullsh- literature is considered the light side!

Teehee, true, that should be considered the dark side then maybe?
I just want her back on my side, our side, the right freaking side :P

message 741: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Oh. I'm disappointed. I wanted to be the bad guy, stealing sales from mainstream YA. I'll just go hide in a corner.

I'm sure you still can be if you put it like that... have a cookie :) We just need her to get to the good books and help the decent authors who are overshadowed by big horrid overlord authors/publishers!

message 743: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Ok, we can be the dark side, and they can be the light side. We're flicking the v-sign to those horrid overlord authors / publishers!

message 744: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Yay! *takes cookie* :) Yes we do! We'll hunt them down and make her read them! xD We will put good YA back on the map. :D

Yes! I'd avoided the YA section in my local bookstores for years till I joined this group! XD Now I have tons of YA to get through!

message 746: by Hayley (new)

Let's make cookies (I say that but I'm actually sorting out my new bookcase at the mo'!)

message 749: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Don't worry, I have no eggs either - and no sugar! So I double fail! Arie ate all the eggs and he's the only one who uses the sugar... so it's all Arie's fault!

message 750: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) Blame Arie for not letting us have cookies!! (poor bloke doesn't even realise he's getting the blame yet!)
