I have a few Staphen King's to read but I've never heard of that one. Let me know what you think when you finish it. :)

Amber (elfkingdom) | 74 comments At the moment I'm reading Hell House by Richard Matheson, the man who wrote I Am Legend (which is soooo much better than the movie!!) I'm only 100 pages or so into Hell House, and really enjoying it. I'm thinking of hunting out more of Richard's books :)

message 1155: by Cynjit (new)

Cynjit | 33 comments I just finished The Son of Neptune (Heroes of Olympus, #2) by Rick Riordan which is a series I enjoy...simple and fun. I am just beginning Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs . I hope A) it is a good as it sounds and B) it doesn't freak me out. If it gets too creepy, I can't read it. I can deal with vampires, monsters but real scary people...not sure.

I've not read or seen I Am Legend. Is Will Smith in it? (I don't watch films so I don't know these things). I've not heard of the author though. :)

My brother loves Rick Riordan. I don't think he's read that series though. I shall ask him when he finally emerges from his bed. I've seen a lot of interest in Miss Peregrine, let me know what you think of it. :)

message 1158: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) I'm still struggling with Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist . I'm not ure if I want to finish it. Also, I'm trying to decide what to read next: do I make thefavourite challenge a priority (with Geist (Book of the Order, #1) by Philippa Ballantine ) or if I start A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire #3, Part 1 of 2) by George R.R. Martin :S

I've got the first book in the Heroes of Olympus series but haven't read it yet. Is it as good as the original Percy Jackson series? I've also got the first book in the other series (the Egyptian one) and haven't read it yet - must remedy this problem!!

Poor Jeshu. :( If it's not for you, it's not for you and you shouldn't have to finish something you're not enjoying. We all know you're secretly longing to read more Martin! I know I am, but I want the scary ghost walkers from beyond the wall to come and start killing off everybody rather than Cersei's endless evil political scheming.

I thought The Declaration Trilogy got worse with every book. I was really disappointed with the end. It was too easy. It was a cop out.

I'm struggling with Pride and Prejudice. Nothing is happening. It makes it difficult to want to read a book.

message 1173: by Varian Rose (new)

Varian Rose I'm halfway thought Beyond The Reflection's Edge and I'm considering giving up. So far it's been all action with no answere. The good news is that it's not offending me like Halo did, so I might finish it just to see what happens.

Lol well done!! :-) I actually managed to hunt out the movie The Legend of Hell House, and it was a real disappointment. I'll stick to the book any time; it's usually the way though, right? Now I'm reading Freddie Mercury The Definitive Biography by Lesley-Ann Jones and it's good. Well written, deeply researched, and on one of my favourite topics: Freddie! :-)

I've just read Glow (Sky Chasers, #1) by Amy Kathleen Ryan , which I won in a contest, and I really enjoyed it! It goes on the approved list for Tara. ;)

I'm back to reading Les Liaisons dangereuses by Pierre A.F. Choderlos de Laclos , which I started back in August. It was recommended that we read it before classes started up again but I'm glad that I didn't read it all then as already the first part of it is just a distant, fuzzy memory and we're not studying it in depth until December.

And I've read the first few pages of Daughters of Rome by Kate Quinn in preparation for the November group read. Hopefully I'll get more of that read this evening.

Char (CharmaineElaine) I'm currently about to start reading Death Bringer (Skulduggery Pleasant, #6) by Derek Landy Which is the latest book in the series. I'm so annoyed, I don't want to have to wait until next year for book 7!!! I want it now!!! (I've not even read the book yet, I just know it's gonna be epic.) If you've read Skulduggery Pleasant, tell me what you thought. I want to talk about the series!!

Then I'm gonna move on to the "His Dark Materials" trilogy. Has anyone read these and if so, what did you think of it? I've been meaning to read it for years but never got round to it. You know how it is, so many books, so little time.

I got sucked in by By Midnight (A Ravenwood Mystery #1) by Mia James when I bought it after missing my train home. The train only comes once every half hour and I'd missed it by seconds (SO annoying!). This was the only English-language book that piqued my interest on sale in the station. I'm going through alternating phases of enjoying it and being frustrated by the heroine. But I'm only 100 pages off this end so I'll finish this one before I read anything else. :)

It tops Mortal Coil? OMG!!! I loved that one!!! The end: :O (view spoiler) I know!!! I'm waiting for the little mini story in March.

message 1192: by Jaime (new)

Jaime (schnappy) | 10 comments I read His Dark Materials last year and I enjoyed the first two books in the series, the third not so much. It's very dark for a children's or young adult series.

I read that about the third book during the review. I find that worrying as it's the last one. I hate it when I feel let down by an ending. I don't mind it being dark tbh, I'm an adult, I can handle it... hopefully. :P

message 1194: by Varian Rose (new)

Varian Rose I wouldn't say it was that dark. It's dark for a younger reader, but I'm pretty sure an adult can handle it.

message 1195: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) That's good to know, I mean I'm reading Skulduggery Pleasant and that's quite dark for kids but I find it to be okay. :)

message 1200: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Hmm... everyone seems to agree that His Dark Materials is forgettable. The opinion on book 3 differs. It's a marmite book.
