Book49:20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - Jules Verne

message 53: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Ooofff.. 12 days it took me to finish this one. Tho it was from no fault of the novel, which I loved. I just had a couple of busy weeks back to back which left me less reading time :(

Tonite I am starting--
Book50:Invitation To A Beheading - Vladamir Nabokov

message 54: by Lori (last edited May 08, 2008 11:30AM) (new)

Jen | 12 comments Oh, you braggart! I'm behind this year and since you have extras to throw around, maybe???

message 56: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Haa Haa Jen, I grossly underestimated my reading abilities this year. I have never kept track before tho, so I guess I will know better for next year!

Finished Abstinence Teacher today.
And started:
Book52:The Old Man And The Sea - Ernest Hemingway

message 57: by Lori (last edited May 15, 2008 03:07PM) (new)

message 61: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (calvamom) | 72 comments Congratulations! What are you going to try next?

message 62: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Cynthia, do you mean what other challenge might I try? i dont know, I am still trying to fillup my author challenge....

Something Wicked This Way Comes was a tough novel for me, i had to force myself to read it quickly... I much prefered the movie to the novel.

Last nite I started
Book57:Motherless Brooklyn

message 63: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Really liked Motherless Brooklyn.

Started
Book58:Metamorphasis - Kafka

message 64: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Kafka is done. Phew. I never thought I would read one of his novels. And thank goodness it was a short one :)

ALready started for the Sawyers Book Club on Myspace:

Starting:
Book60:The Cave - Saramago

message 66: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Sorry. I forgot to update, between coming back from vacation and wroking this weekend... I finished this novel three days ago. Wow. wow wow wow.

Starting--
Book61:Heart Of Darkness - Conrad

message 67: by Lori (last edited Jun 26, 2008 04:07PM) (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Not sure why Heart of Darkness is on the Lost Lit List.. if its linked to the show, its not easy to identify why.

Going to Start--
Book62:Laughter In The Dark - Nabokov

message 68: by KristenR (last edited Jun 24, 2008 08:40AM) (new)

KristenR (klrenn) Heart of Darkness was referenced in some of the dialog on Lost.

Episode: Walkabout, Numbers
Reference: Tell me something.. How come any time there's a hike into the heart of darkness, you sign up?" Jack to Kate.

"One minute you're happy go lucky good time Hurley, the next you're Colonel bloody Kurtz." Charlie to Hurley.

You've got the Jungle [the island], the natives[the others], colonization and control of the land[Dharma], the crazy leader[Ben], the ambiguity of morality and the darkness within each person.

I think I'm going to start reading off that list...since I haen't read most of them.

message 69: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Wow, Kristen, you must be a huge Lost fan! I feel like a blind person for not having seen those connections. I think I was looking for something deeper and totally missed the obvious!

Finished Laughter in the Dark.

Onto--
Book63: The Pearl - Steinbeck

message 70: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) whoda thunk a short book like The Pearl would take me the better part of three days? It's all because of work, I swear!

Reading now--
Book64:Lancelot - Walker Percy

message 71: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) I hate it when a book just sort of ....ends....
