Sue Seligman (bookfan55) | 25 comments I absolutely loved The Storyteller, Hayley, but I have always been interested in the Holocaust, even more so as an adult because my mother in law was a survivor. I have read a lot of Holocaust literature, both fiction and nonfiction, and I have to say that Jodi Picoult outdid herself on this book. It had several parallel stories going on, and the parts about the war were really intense, but extremely well written and realistic. Give it a try; you can always put it aside if it is too disturbing for you. I have a copy of Between the Lines, but I have not read it yet; have heard that it is good though.

Elizabeth | 5 comments Just started Second Glance, so far I like it, I'm not obsessively reading as I usual do with Picoult novels though.

message 303: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Virginia | 1 comments I read all of them. Wish she came out with a new one sooner.

message 304: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyjeanne) | 6 comments I am still reading 19 Minutes and finding it so interesting. The trial has just begun and I can't wait to see what happens. This book has really made me look at every child differently. It is so sad to understand what a horrific life it is for the victims of bullying. I am one of those people that just wishes everyone could be nice to each other.

message 305: by K (new)

K | 1 comments I just bought The Storyteller. I can't wait to get into it!

message 306: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyjeanne) | 6 comments Just finished 19 Minutes. Really liked it because of the investigation of the shooter. This should be required reading in every high school English class. It is something that needs to be discussed. Again, Jodi Picoult does such a good job of character development and looking at a situation for all different sides. I would recommend this book.

message 307: by Rene (new)

Rene | 10 comments Of all the books, Nineteen Minutes was my favorite. Bullying is horrible and most of the time the teachers are unaware unless someone tells. This should be required reading in high school. Excellent points of view from several characters deepen and enhance the story.

Dani (danibabi_x) | 7 comments Currently reading Harvesting the heart, becoming pretty glued to the book. I love Jodi.

I agree Rene. Nineteen Minutes was my first JP read and by far my favorite. I have read almost all of her books. And I wholeheartedly agree with your though on it being required reading in all high schools. I know it is not required but encouraged at my daughters high school, though I have heard that some schools/districts have banned it, which just seems ludicrous to me. Hiding it will not make it nonexistent.

message 321: by Nadia (new)

Nadia (happy_reading) I just finished Handle With Care and thought it was a relatively decent read, although not my favorite JP book. Now I'm trying to decide between Keeping Faith and Salem Falls

I would go with Keeping Faith, Salem Falls was ok, but one of her earlier ones, I liked Keeping Faith much better.

I know Nineteen Minutes is on our local high school's Summer Reading List. At first I was unsure that it was a good idea, but after all of the school shootings, and the students committing suicide because they were bullied, I've changed my opinion, and have to agree with you.

I got Sing You Home on my Reader, and although it is WIFI capable, I did have trouble downloading the music. I think what I would like to do is download it on my computer and listen to it separately.

message 331: by Bronwyn (last edited Jul 25, 2015 01:13AM) (new)

Bronwyn Orsatti (bronwynorsatti) Hi .. I am new to the group. This month I am reading Mercy. Is there anyone in the group reading one of her books this month?

I am working my way through all of her books. I have read a few of the more recent ones and now going back to read some of her earlier ones.

message 332: by Vicki Farthing (new)

Vicki Farthing | 1 comments I'm reading The Pact. I'm making my way through her old books too. I love Handle with Care, 19 Minutes, Leaving Time and Salem Falls but I struggled with The Story Teller. I've half read it and stopped again as I just can't get into it. Usually I love books like that but it's like I'm waiting for something to happen!

My daughter has read My Sisters Keeper and keeps on at me to read it as the ending is totally different to the film. She loves the film as do I. She says the book is different enough that you can read it as its own story.

message 333: by Donna (new)

Donna | 27 comments Reading keeping faith right now

message 334: by Renae (new)

Renae Bullard | 2 comments Vicki, you definitely should read My Sister's Keeper! I haven't seen the movie, but the book is compelling.

The Pact is on my list of to-reads. I will be interested to hear what you think.

I just finished 19 minutes and have read My Sisters Keeper, Story Teller, House Rules and Sing You Home.

I would agree 100% in regards to what your daughter has said about the movie and film My Sisters Keeper. They are similar but there are some significant differences. I enjoyed both and would recommend to read the book.

Keeping faith is also on my reading to-do list. (ok I do want to read all her books).

would love to hear what you think?

Bronwyn Orsatti (bronwynorsatti) Renae wrote: "I'm currently reading Sing You Home. The Pact is my favorite."

Hi Renae ... I am always interested in why people like books the best. If you don't mind me asking ... what did you enjoy about Pact and why do you think it is your favourite of Jodi's novels?

message 338: by Bronwyn (new)

Bronwyn Orsatti (bronwynorsatti) ATM from the books I have read and currently reading (My Sisters Keeper, Story Teller, House Rules and Sing You Home ... reading Mercy).

I would have to say that my current favourite is Sing you home. I enjoyed the questions that it raised about life, family, love and faith. I love the use of music in the story. Why it is my favourite ... well I guess it is the one that made me question the most. Part of me wants my favourite to be House Rules (and maybe in time it will be). I am the parent of 2 kids with autism (not aspergers like Jacob). I found the book very hard to read but I was really glad that I did. I guess that is a natural reaction when you can really empathise with the characters. I think my perceptions will change on subsequent reads.

Gretchen | 7 comments Renae wrote: "Vicki, you definitely should read My Sister's Keeper! I haven't seen the movie, but the book is compelling."
I was hugely disappointed in the movie of My Sister's Keeper. The ending was totally different than the book. The book was wonderful, don't bother with the movie.

Urgh I really did not like that book. It didn't sound like JP at all.

I've recently read Leaving Time and enjoyed it. The twist didn't really work for me, though. Too overdone imo. What did you all think?

message 343: by Michelle T. (new)

Michelle T. (chely1217) | 10 comments I just finished House Rules

message 344: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (januarygirl) | 9 comments Approximately 2/3 of the way through 'Leaving Time' and so far I'm really enjoying it. Very different to the previous Picoult books I've read but definitely up to her usual standard, if not above.
