Beautiful Survivor Bella is a dull Mary Sue of a character who has no personality whatsoever. She judges people and is a brat.

well I have now words to describe her... in a very bad way.

message 923: by Mandie (new)

Mandie | 71 comments You should read this review if you haven't already. It is just another review by a twilight fan, but I found this one slightly more disturbing because it was written by a teacher and on her profile it says one of her interests is feminism.

this is the link
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Highly disturbing that she gave it 4 stars, but perhaps even more disturbing that she said 'Bella was a good protagonist because she is a sort of everygirl. She saw herself in the same way that I think most teenage girls see themselves--as inconsequential and common. Meyer indulges in the Cinderella fantasy and makes common, awkward Bella become, almost excessively, the center of male attention. She's horribly accident-prone, which allowed for Meyer to create plenty of damsel-in-distress moments. Fortunately, she's also independent, intelligent, observant, and heroic in a way that I think most readers could imagine themselves being heroic. So ultimately, she's an empowering character.'

Not sure how relevant this is, but I just thought I would share it with this group and see what you thought of it. I don't know about you but if I had to describe Bella in four words, I would say: stupid, clumsy, pathetic and uninteresting.

Fangirl Musings (fangirlmusings) " 'Fortunately, she's also independent, intelligent, observant, and heroic in a way that I think most readers could imagine themselves being heroic. So ultimately, she's an empowering character.' "

*Gags*

People's stupidity amazes me sometimes, I swear. Just because Meyer SAYS Bella is intelligent, observant, and heroic does not automatically make her thus. This is especially true if an author opts to play the tell-don't-show game. In order to note a character as being heroic, a reader must see said character acting heroic. (Heroism does not equate to stupidity, either, since I know fans of this vile tripe would not hesitate to scream "BUT BELLA WENT TO SAVE HER MOMMY IN THE FIRST BOOK!" Since, you know, rushing head long into danger by oneself is the epitome of being a hero...if you're a raging suicidal moron.)

Likewise, if a character is supposed to be an intellectual, we must see them acting as such. Intelligence isn't only demonstrated by reading classic novels and supposedly acing all one's classes.

To make these qualities realistic - or even believable - in a fictional character, an author must display that intelligence and observational skill in play. Such could result from the character in question figuring out a crucial unanswered lifesaving question and issue which appears in the plot, the true identity or weakness of the antagonist or the location of a missing character in peril. Does Meyer do such? The answer to that question is not just "no," but rather "hell, no!"

And, even further, what's more irritating is that a reader of this moronic series actually has the audacity to claim Bella the Tard can simultaneously be the damsel-in-distress AND a heroic character. If such two depictions were isolated moments of action, then yes, I could agree. However, Bella is perpetually screwing up and in great need of rescue. So, if a character continually plays Dork-Face, how in the hell can they be seen as heroic to any degree?

And, lastly..."independent?"

I think my eyes just started bleeding.

INDEPENDENT? Really? This connotation is being given to a chick who essentially engages in suicidal behavior because her idgit vampy boyfriend bails on her? A character who practically loses all sense of self and opts to immerse her complete identity in being Edtard's girlfriend? Oh, and let us not forget the fact that this brainless airhead also decided to give up her own humanity just so that she could forever frolic in the fields with Edward the pale skinned wonder. No. That is almost the text book definition of co-dependence, not independence!

Arieel Belikov | 6 comments Bella is a oneminded bitch.she always thinks about edward and herself. But what about her dad and other friends?.Nope they donty matter. If your not a cullen then she hates you.she lies and hurts breaks hearts.says that she's being selfish and then says she's gonna stop.but the she keeps doing it.She led Jacob on.She put everyone in danger.Herself and the people she supposedly loves. We get she loves edward but does'nt mean that she had to jump off the fuckin cliff like the crazy bitch she is to see a 109 year old vampire'd face. She could've died did she think about how this would effect charlie?.No.he left her for 6months and she did'nt even yell at him.But Oh shit!!.. your gonna love this one.Bella yell at jacob for not answering her calls. She was wrong for hitting jacob for kissing her.she broke her own hand and said jacob did it but she's the one who him.she should've hit Edward when he was stalking her.Stephanie Meyer is dumb.she forced love in one book.Love takes time. They did'nt even get to know eachother first.she begs for the dumbest things. As soon as her dad asked if she was having sex she said no and then she turns around and ask edward to put his dick in her. Then she pouts cause he said no.That's why she should've chosen jacob.he would've did it for her as soon as she asked. And dont even get me started on Edward's head.

Arieel Belikov | 6 comments the only reason why bella loves edward is because 1.He's a supernatural creature 2.He has no life 3.He sticks his frozen dick in her. 4.he stalks her 5.He controls her like a remote control 6she weants to be pretty 43v3r 7.he's a rich ass 109yrold vampyre 8she describes him as a god like figure (YAWN)! 8.He's her bitch just like jacob was 10.she says jump and edward comes jumpin 11.she puts herself in danger and in harms way edward has to save her ass like the damsel and distress she is 12.The main reason she loves himis becuz he wants to Kill the person that she treats like shit that she calls her best friend.Cuz bella sho dont give a damn about jacob and i have proof hit me up at the inbox and i'll prove it.

I think it's a beautiful name.

I just hate the fact that now, my middle name reminds me of her... >_< although it's not Isabella, it's 2 letters off. But still...

Lope | 80 comments @candy rain: yeah, i think it's a beautiful name, for someone in 16-18th century (like Pride and Prejudice: Elizabeth Bennet, or Pirates of the Caribbean: Elizabeth Swann).
I think there is nothing wrong with your middle name, i just don't like how "isabella" and "swan" be amalgamated. and how about bella's father name? charlie swan?

@ Acheron: haha, so hilarious :-)

message 936: by Fangirl Musings (new)

Fangirl Musings (fangirlmusings) LOL Isn't it!

I'm not sure if the "d'oh!" look on Dip Tard's face is a result of the actual character's patheticness, or the seriously limited-to-nonexistent acting skills of Stewart. Probably both, no doubt.

message 937: by Fangirl Musings (new)

Fangirl Musings (fangirlmusings) *Laughs* No doubt about it, Lindsay! She's a very lonely bored woman if she honestly feels controlling, ass hole, sparkly disco-balls that are 'vegetarian vampires' is romantic!

It's so utterly absurd and transparent of what the author was trying to do, it's damn laughable!

message 943: by Mandie (new)

Mandie | 71 comments Does anyone else find it annoying that Bella is described as being mature for her age and her mother says she was born middle aged or something like that? I think it was just SM's way of getting out of having to think about how to sound like a teenager.

Mandie | 71 comments It says; long, straight, dark brown hair
widow's peak
chocolate brown eyes
lips 'a bit too full for her jawline'
narrow jaw; pointed chin
fair-skinned.

At the bottom it says Isabella Meyer. Basically it is just using descriptions of Bella from various Twilight books and put them on Stephenie Meyer to show that Bella looks the same as SM as well as Meyer living through her.

That_random_guy_of_randomness | 2 comments lets face it bella is pretty much an empty shell if you read the book then you realized that she isnt described very much. in fact for about the first o 400 pages of the first book the reader doesnt get any idea of what she looks like. this is to give the reader the ability to slip into bella and become emerged into this world of make beleive goat vomit i honestly hate all the characters but bella is the worst. my friends mom named new shitzu bella and all the dog does is pee on the carpet and eat crap. no literally thiis dog gets into the litter box and drags out cat crap and leaves it on the carpet then eats it wow doesnt that dog sound just like bella? they both eat shit(in the case of the books bella she eats all the emotional gooey crap that edward and jacob dish out) they both piss everywhere(the books bella pisses on other peoples emotions by being a self obsorbed bitch) and ya thats my rant this character is no better that an unintelligent animal that eats its own feces. ps. ya im a guy i read the entire series(only cuz i got paid 50 dollars to do so) and im still full of hate however now i have something to direct that hate towards so in way i thank the author for this literal dump on society it has given me a new outlet for my anger. pps. my favorite hobby is to beat up twilight fans that roam my mall it is fun especially cuz the mall cops do absolutely nothing to stop me. this is my post have a nice day
