I think the size of the books is what was keep me from reading it sooner. I am listening to it, and just love the story.

There is another thread here titled "What do you tell people". Many clever suggestions on how to pique others Curiosity enough to get them to check it out. Tonya made a clever suggestion too.
Lots of fun, eloquent and sometimes just outrageous discussion. But always most enjoyable. I look forward to the visit everday!

honestly, no description will do this series justice...gabaldon does such a great job of making the characters so endearing (especially jamie, claire and ian), describing the scenery, and developing the plot that one can't truly appreciate the books until they read them in full!

I have also said before, that Outlaner comes to you only when you are ready for it.

She promised she'll read it after her exams are over. Granted she mostly did it to keep me from pestering her, but still...*doing a happy dance*
Will inform you how it goes further!!!

Off to dive into Drums of Autumn for the first time *squeal*

Hope you enjoy Drums. I'm still working on it.

One of the major things that appeal to me about her books ARE the length! The are so fantastic that when you get to the end you wish they were twice as long. They say they don't want to read such a long book but if they would try it they wouldn't be disappointed.

Hi Mimi,
I used to promote and sell the book from a small shop quite successfully. One of the things I told people was how the books really brought Scotland to life for me on my second visit. It helped me understand one part of the history and opened up a whole world I though I already knew.
Cheers, Samantha
The Jamie & Claire Tour

I told her it didn`t get too graphic and that`s not what the whole series is about but she won`t give it a chance.
Oh well she doesn`t know what she is missing!
Lets just pray that none of her kids would end up gay....I`m not sure how she would deal with that.

The idea of 'some' of the violence and the close-to-death scenes is that two people have gone through hell and back and have survived and have stayed together; only the strongest of relationships can survive these ordeals and so makes it an unfortunately 'acceptable' part of a good story, but not everyone's cup of tea.
Read on yourself and enjoy the story and don't be discouraged that some people aren't interested no matter what their reason.

The gay part of it? That had more to do with power, pain and cruelty than with homosexuality. Rape is never about sex. so, she would've been ok with Claire being raped, then?
Now had she reached the part with LJG, than she could've said that, IMO.

Well said Mimi."
I totally agree, if you think it is you are very wrong.

Agree 100%

That's so true, Wendy. I think that's another one of the reasons I love this series so much. You can get right back into the story anywhere. Just convincing others how very special it is and having them believe you can be challenging.

I think part of the problem is I just don't know how to explain the books and WHY I love the books so much.
So I just say they're mind-blowingly good and that it's just something you have to read to truly understand.
But it made me curious-how would you best describe The Outlander series and how would(or did)you recommend it? Please help me. I'd like to spread more DG love around{g}.
