ABANDONED. Apple tree, ghostman, chimney?

I'm looking for a children's book, black cover, possibly from the 80's that told the story of a man who died and was now a ghost. He came down a chimney yelling about his missing body parts? Something about them finding him buried under a tree, possibly apple??
