Im a big fan of Phantom Of The Opera & its tragic love story,I love to read "what if"? after sequels hoping Erik will find happiness. In this book it is the re-telling of the original done in a more "romantic" version Chanson de l'Ange by Paisley Swan Stewart Chanson de l'Ange
A big book..but so worth it..

Sigh, no romances going on at the moment. Southern or otherwise.

I love Rosanne Bittner! I have read all her books...not one has dissapointed me. Her older ones are the best as well as her Indian series, I still have them all, in great shape after all these years.

You've got 3 on the go right now dont you? I dont know how you do that..I know your reading Helen Hollicks latest..hows that so far? Ive got the 1st one..the one you have is not here yet :(

Jill III give a review on this book when Im done...but personally..if you like more romance..than this is the one to read..the "classic" orginial is just that.

Sandi, I have the Hollick book going but I've read the original version (Harold the King) so I kinda know how it all plays out. The typos in the ARC are kind of distracting but don't tell anyone :)

Somehow this "feisty" character reminds me of the Avatar one time owner! LOL :)

I'm drawing a blank. Where's Karla when we need her?

You could try Shanna by Woodiwiss but I'm pretty certain you'd hate it :p

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 494 comments Mod
Jill..I loved the books by Patricia Hagan (check out series & saga's thread)Im going to re-read these soon. And I know others didnt care for it but I liked Ashes in the Wind by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss Oh! I LOVED these
The Black Swan by Day Taylor and the sequel Moss Rose by Day Taylor

*smacks forehead*

Yes The Black Swan is good. For the darndest reason I got to 2/3 of the way through Moss Rose and stalled out. I will pick it up and finish one of these days I promise. I was doing jury duty at the time and it worked in the waiting waiting waiting waiting waiting room, but once we were cut free by the judge I just moved on to something else.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 494 comments Mod
Yeah..some of hers are better than others..maybe she caught me in the right mood...or it was SO long ago I read it I may have a different opinion now if I re-read which most times happens with the older books.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 494 comments Mod
SO true Jill! But as Misfit pointed out to me one time our tastes change over the years..she's so right Im finding out.

There are some books that are just better left on that shelf and retain their fond memories than be dragged out for a reread.

I also LOVE Phantom of the Opera...Susan Kay also wrote a re-telling of Erik's story and it was so wonderfully done that the story stayed in my mind for a long time after reading it...It's Phantom

I'm reading real southerly, as in Danish West Indies (which is the same as the Virgin Islands - didn't know that).

Muscavado by Eleanor Heckert

Barely into it, but it's good so far. Two of the slaves (one is the overseer's son and is always singled out for abuse) are about to escape. Wish I didn't have to work... :-\

I am currently reading Angel in my Arms by Victoria Gray. Just started it and already there has been a jail break with the main character. A Viking looking Capt. in the Union Army. His accomplice is a auburn headed, green eyed little tease with a new mission in mind for him. This is a fast moving storyline with many twists and turns. I don't think I would have trusted anyone if I was to live in their time. I liked the book and would recommend it.

I recently finished Midnight Waltz by Jennifer Blake. The big ta-dah at the beginning is awfully easy to guess, but once that got over things moved along nicely. A lot of sex, but Blake manages to keep it on the tasteful side. I like the way she incorporates the smaller details of southern life and customs into her books. Well done.

I just finished reading High Hearts by Rita Mae Brown by Rita Mae Brown. This was a length book, but kept my interest. It begins just a couple of days before the succession of Virginia into the Civil War. It follows each day with a short daily diary, per se of a young woman and her family, in their trials and tribulations within their lives. Lots of suspense and wonderment. Great read for anyone that enjoys romance novels that are set in or around the civil war time period. Hope you enjoy this one as I did.

I am currently reading "Woman of Magnoia" The Women of Magnolia by Marlene Mitchell and this is a great book. It is set in about 1850 to post Civil War, in rural Mississippi. A look into a bit of plantation life and this is a good romance. I was surprised at the size of this book. I have it on my Nook and at 970 pages, this is a fantastic buy. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys a historical romance novel. I love this time period and it's difficult sometimes finding a book of this time period. This is a very interesting book and great read.

Thanks Sandy, sounds interesting. I'd forgotten to mention one I read about a week ago, One Wore Blue. It's the first in a trilogy on the Civil War. Fairly good, and while it was a romance (with sex of course), there's some good historical details as well.

I just finished "Fifty Shades of Grey". I had to see what all the hype is about this best seller. Very intriguing, erotic and had me going OMG all the way through. Now I am onto the sequel "Fifty Shades Darker". This storyline may be a little on the dark side, but it has drawn me and I have to see what happens. :D

Linda B.D. (lindabd) | 25 comments Sandi, Fifty Shades of Grey- was it that good.
Seems everyone loves it. Is it a trilogy or will there be 10 more books? I'm just not going to st rat anymore of series that have 8-13 + books in it! It's like a soap series on tv! Just now posting what I've been reading. Have you read Chances? It's REALLY good. It's a trilogy with the last book coming out in Nov- I can live with that. No waiting a year for the next book!

No, Fifty Shades Of Grey was NOT my cuppa' tea Linda.
I have a review on what I read(didnt finish it)Eroctia is not something I read, although I dont mind the "toned-down" steamy romances..and "clean" ones bore me unless its well written. But alot of women and men loved the books. Sandy you may want to try Bared to You (Crossfire, #1) by Sylvia Day it also got great reviews as well as it was said to be better than FSOG.
And FSOG is only 3 books..read at your own risk Linda :D

Shift of gears now. I am currently reading "Love and War" by Patricia Hagan. Love and War (Coltrane, #1) by Patricia Hagan which it an old one. It's a good romantic story, set during the Civil War (which we all love).

Nathan Collins, the Rebel, who dreamed of making Katherine his wife, but would never accept her craving for a life of her own.

Travis Coltrane, the Yankee, who could make her wild with fury one moment, and delirious with passion the next.

And Katherine Wright was wrenched from her home, ravished at will, abducted again and again...but the real battle was raging where no one could see it - for even the turbulent tides of war couldn't extinguish the sweet-hot fire within.
