This is great cover, I agree. They're making a movie out of this book, with Angela Jolie ( I assume as the perfect specimen of female... )...don't know who the male will be.My God, I'm okay with a pretentious ass like Brad Pritt, Tom Cruise playing the role....but please I hope Viggo Mortenson doesn't sign on!! I did seriously enjoy the book, I don't need to agree with books to get something out of them

It's hard to read b/c it is 1000 pages w/ 8 pt font. Thus, the reason for the movie. Although AJ was good in Mighty Heart, this one may not be a good one for her. W/ Jolie as the leading role, it will be sure to butcher all the fantasticism out of it. I wish that they weren't making it into a movie. It's so good. It just can't be made into a movie that would accurately portray this brilliant work.
I read about the movie possibility a while ago...maybe it won't pan out... haven't heard anything in a while. I think that the material would have to be handled very expertly in order to translate well into a film.
It's such a hard book to adapt for a 2-3 hour movie. It's more appropriate for a miniseries. Ayn Rand seriously needed an editor with balls. Even the abridged version was full of tedious, redundant conversations. Even so, there is a lot of small interactions that are really important to capture for the full feel of the story.I wish they'd remake the Fountainhead for the movies, instead.
I hadn't heard anything about a movie version of this book until this discussion page, but personally, I think it's a BAD idea. There's just way, WAY too much content and depth in the book that wouldn't stand a chance of making it to the screen. How would you even begin to decide what to cut out??? No matter who the actors are, any Atlas Shrugged movie is just going to wind up over-simplified and dumbed-down to attract a wider audience. :/
There's no way this book can appeal to the mainstream like a movie needs to. The entire point of the book is that there's a few people that are smart and hard-working, and the rest of humanity is a parasite on them. How can that translate to a big-budget, box-office smashing movie? And if they're casting Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, that's what they're hoping for. A very, very bad idea.
I couldn't agree more, Coco. So many times books I love have been made into a movie and ruined. This one, being as long and involved as it is, will be especially hard to make into a movie that truly portrays the the depth of these characters. I'm not a big Angelina fan and can't picture her in the part. And I can't think of a single male actor who, in my opinion could play the male role.
