I like Goodreads better than figment, mainly because the forums are a lot easier to use and the people on here seem to be more friendly. (That's just because I spend a ton more time on here, I'm sure.)

Amen.
Well, there are some nasty people on Goodreads, but mostly good people. The people on Figment tend to be kind of annoying since all they want is for you to read their writing.

Seriously. And people don't leave good reviews on Figment from what I've seen. Just stuff like "oooh ur writing is amaaaaazing!!qa!!!!Q1!!" and "I loved your story!" and grr.

Hmm... yes, that is true. But I find mean people to be interesting. I like people with LOADS of character. LOADS OF IT I SAY.

Errm isn't Teen Ink kind of a scam? I'm pretty sure they say they own the rights to your work if you publish it with them, but then you don't get paid anything for it...
Well, they let you know that they have all the rights to your work... so, I dunno if it's a scam. I don't submit to them for that reason. Besides, if you submit to them and they don't use it, they still have first rights to it so you can't give first rights to anyone else. :P

True, but since they're aiming it at young people who don't necessarily know better, it seems like a pretty fishy thing to do. Basically they profit off your work and you don't get any compensation for it.

Pretty much.
If I wasn't so obsessed with details like that, I probably would've submitted something to them without realizing it was kind of a "scam."
Although... that's what Kristina Horner/Haley Hoover's book is doing and I want to get chosen for that so badly. xD

Figment and Inkpop are joining together. I'm kind of pissed off. There was a reason I left Inkpop... x_x Oh well. I just hope Figment doesn't become as much of a popularity contest as Inkpop.

Less Than Three Books.

(They explain it better than I could.)

I'm sorry. D: If it makes you feel any better, there's only one day left and I still haven't gotten a finalist e-mail. xD
I don't think I'm going to get into it. But it's okay. I'm quite proud of my story and enjoyed the way it turned out.

Colby wrote: "I will explode if Figment becomes too much like Inkpop. Their contests already ARE popularity contests. I was mad when I saw that they were joining, but we'll see how it works out..."
I think it will mostly be the same, only HarperCollins will hold more of the contests. So, hopefully you'd still be able to stay away from popularity contests if you wanted to. But still ... ugh.

I want to read either way. You should post it.
I shall post it after I know for sure I didn't make it (because they technically have the rights to it until March 1. I think. I don't know. They said not to put it up on our blog or anything if we got in.)
Mine used to be until one day I casually mentioned that a friend I met online and I were going to write a book together. And then I started mentioning her more, and other people more. I would sneak calls on a blocked number... and then I mentioned that my online friend got texting on her phone and I could text her now instead of just call and my mom just said, "Oh, that's so cool!" and it was awesome.

that's so sad! my entire family knows i've been trying to finish a book for ages. :(
SERIOUSLY! It's actually really fun to tell people you're a writer. And if you don't want to show them anything, you don't have to. My mom still hasn't read any of my attempts at novels.

Neither has my mom! I don't like showing my family my work, but I love showing my friends for whatever reason.

This is a website for writers who are children. Addressing technicalities, it is a group within a larger site known as Goodreads, and the members tend to discuss ornithology rather than writing. Nonetheless, I believe it is a wonderful writing site, and you should all take a look at it.
HA. HA HA. Autumn is funny. *headdesk*
