Anna "I agree with many other die-hard fans. I wanted to love this finale. I wanted to embrace it and cry over it. But it was terribly written. Meyer wanted to make everything turn out perfect for everyone in the book, but making everything so perfect for them made it terrible for us.

To begin, vampires cannot have babies. They cannot pro-create. It cannot happen because of rules Meyer established in previous books.

The whole thing with the stupid baby-name, real mature, Bella. Renesmee sounds like something my cat threw up.

Jacob imprinting, no. No, no, no!!!! Make it a sad story like you did for all the rest!!!! Or some new kid comes to town or something!!!! BUT NOT BELLA'S KID!!!!

Charlie being OKAY with not knowing what's going on with his daughter?! Since when?!?! He's always been the protective father, now he doesn't want to know?!?!

The idea of Bella turning into the protector? She's always been the weak one, why should it stop now?

Also, I hate to reveal this information, because it will sound accusatory to the author; well, maybe it is. I read the entire plot of Breaking Dawn in a fanfiction over 1 yr. ago. The whole thing was laid out in a fanfic online.

The maturity level of Bella was truly revealed. I wanted her to die so badly in this installment.

So, here I am, very upset.

What would have made it perfect: Firstly, no children. Edward should have been meaner, he was a weakling in this one. No baby. They should have "died" on their honeymoon, the families grieved, then they all hide away in New England.

Or at least the whole Irina-situation should have been about the "shape-shifters" instead of a baby. The Volturi and the Cullen-Clan should have bitten eachother's heads off. I wanted a fight.

I wanted to know more about the different covens, the werewolves, the shape-shifters, and the Volturi. The different covens and the Volturi are what made me finish this book. Alice kicks ass by the way. I still want to know all the Cullens individual stories.

Disappointment. Maybe I should write fanfic????"

Kat Helgeson Can you link us to this fanfic??

liz I agree! I have read SEVERAL fanfics that had the same plot. It's like SM just read them all and mashed together the ones she likes even thought they were never meant to be together. UGH!

Hayley UGH. "Breaking Dawn" was awful.. I agree. it's a real shame.

message 5: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay i agree.
i was hoping for a good cry.
it was just to happy, and it got boring.
everything turned out too perfect.

and the fact that she had a baby was lame too.
i was hoping edward would die before bella turned into a vamp, i dont know why. but it would have made me want to actually finish the book.
i had to force myself.

but enough of my babbling, im glad someone thinks this book could have been better too:)

Diabla81 I agree, I feel like Meyer just rushed to get this book out as soon as she could (pressure from the publishers maybe?). Also talk about sending the wrong idea to young girls. I know this is a fantasy, but come on, marriage, baby, and wonderful sex combo with a side of forget about developing a mind of your own. Come on give the girl some strength, perhaps a life on her own. It would been cool if she went to college and discover the world outside Edward, that would made the plot a lot more interesting to me.
Also big not wait huge disappointment with the Volturi face down. I wanted it blood!!!! Also forgive me but i wanted some one dead (Esmee, Renne or Charlie) However my thirteen year-old self loves this book, so that being said I am sure that is Meyers target audience, so what can you expect from someone who thinks like a thirteen year-old.

Kat Helgeson Diabla81 - your post made me think that maybe I'm not being fair.

Because my pre-adolescent self is also capable of enjoying this story.

Maybe I was expecting something like what happened with Harry Potter, where I realized halfway through that these YA books had adult quality writing. But Meyer only ever claimed to be writing YA books.

Sigh. No. Just because a book is geared to children, that doesn't mean it doesn't have to be as good. Never mind.

Leslie Honestly, in my humble opinion, most children's and YA books have better writing quality than the majority of stuff written for adults.
That being said, there is a lot of crap out there.

Diabla81, I agree that Meyers could have made Bella such a cool, smart role-model for girls. We have plenty of 'neat girls' having kids early on (ie: Brittney, Jamie Lynn). At least she went for the marriage part first? It would be fabulous for Bella to go to college, work on saving the world in some respect. She and Edward could have gone to Africa to work with Aids orphans or to New Orleans and built houses with Habitat for Humanity. Instead, Bella became the hot chick that a human (Max, J. Jenks) male was panting after.

I'm glad to see there some pre-adolescent/adolescent girls who have their heads on straight and are unimpressed with getting the hot guy, having a baby and that's it. Be more girls!

Diabla81 I also agree about other YA books, "His Dark Materials" and "The Wardstone Chronicles" are examples of superb writing with very provocative topics like religion/philosophy, science, and things like the complicated levels of love and the relationships between the characters, I love when writers don't assume the children or young adult readers can't handle bigger topics than heroic adventures. That is why Harry Potter is such a great series because all the characters grew from the initial concept and became more complex and interesting just like any regular child that ceases to be eleven, twelve, thirteen etc.

Bella never grew up, she never struggle, she never was heartbroken, she never lost anyone, she was just useless and two dimensional. She basically stayed the same Bella from the first book.New Moon sorta tried but failed, I wanted to kill Bella with her whining, Eclipse was getting some where close but Breaking Dawn went complete the wrong direction. I don't regret reading the series and I don't dislike them and I do want to give Stephanie Meyer the benefit of the doubt, but I sorta cringe to the fact that little girls might thing of Bella as a role model.

Lori Anna

Are you referring the the fanfic where Bella has a twin? I read that one. I have no clue where I read it - it was so long ago.
