I noticed that several months ago. I took over as moderator just in defense. I sent her a couple of messages but have heard nothing in reply.

Jennifer Girardin | 6 comments Hello everyone!

I'm Jennifer Girardin, and I am a great fan of the Sherlock Holmes films, television adaptations, and stories.

My favorite version would probably be the Granada series played by the late Jeremy Brett.

I agree on the Jeremy Brett series, the high watermark. Even better than Sherlock.

message 104: by Tony (new)

Tony | 8 comments Not sure if I have ever introduced myself. Im Tony from the east of the UK, I especially like dipping into new Sherlock Holmes writing for new adventures. Have read the canon a few times and so I seek solace in pastiches and the like now.

message 105: by Silvio111 (new)

Silvio111 | 123 comments Anthony Horowitz has at least 2 Sherlock Holmes pastiches. My favorite is MORIARTY, his second. It truly astounded me.

I also particularly liked Neil Gaiman's A STUDY IN EMERALD, especially because the author recorded the voice on the audiobook.

message 106: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, I'm David, from Santa Monica, CA. … I was about to say what first got me into SH, but I see there's a second question, "What first got you into Sherlock Holmes," so i'll answer it there.

message 107: by Philip (new)

Philip Jones (pkentjones) | 12 comments "A Study in Emerald" was remarkable. I consider it to be the ONLY true Pastiche of Doyle's Sherlockian tales ever written. It follows Doyle's style very exactly, but, of course, it was not written by Dr. Watson about Sherlock Holmes. In addition, it won a Hugo (named after Hugo Gernsbeck, an early Sci-Fi writer).

message 108: by Derek (new)

Derek Hullo!

I'm Derek, and a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes, particularly the short stories and BBC adaption.

I've only read the really popular stories, but as a part of my classics binge I'll be reading the whole collection.

I confess I had trouble getting into The House of Silk, but MORIARTY riveted me from Page 1 right until the last sentence.

Malcolm Douglas | 1 comments Hi, I'm Malcolm. I'm from the North-East of England, but lived in London for a few years, so I'm familiar with many of the places mentioned in the books. Loved Holmes all my life, read and re-read the stories. Enjoying the pastiches now.

Now that you have finished the sixty Canonical tales and the dozen or so Apocryphal tales, you can start on the eleven thousand plus pastiches, parodies and related fiction items. Unfortunately, at present, they are coming out even faster than I can LIST them, more or less READ them. My database is hopelessly behind.

Rebecca (rebecca487) | 7 comments After watching the Jeremy Brett tv adaptation for years, I finally decided to start reading the texts and I cannot stop. Sherlock Holmes has become my latest reading obsession!

message 117: by Anna (new)

Anna Lord (annalordauthor) | 29 comments Years ago I read a brilliant book titled: Moriarty.
I do not believe it was authored by either Horowitz or John Gardner. (I may simply be mis-remembering.)
In the book, Moriarty assists Sherlock; in other words, they pit their skills. Can any GR member recall the author?

message 118: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebecca487) | 7 comments I think the book you are referring to is by Horrowitz. He wrote a novel called Moriarty. Here is the link to the book
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...

Hope this is the right one :)

message 119: by Silvio111 (new)

Silvio111 | 123 comments Yes, MORIARTY is most suspenseful. I am not the most clever reader; I almost never figure out the mystery early on, but still, this book had me fooled until the very last paragraph.

The audiobook version is excellent. (Read delightfully by Julian Rhind-Tutt ( whom some of us remember as the character, Sgt. Valentine in the PBS Mystery! series, Heat of the Sun.)

Don't miss it!

message 120: by Andrews UK (new)

Andrews UK (AndrewsUK) | 1 comments Hi Everyone,

I'm from Andrews UK publishing. We have just launched a new imprint called 'Moriarty Press' aimed specifically at Sherlock Holmes titles. Andrews UK itself has published a number of Sherlock Holmes titles on behalf of some publishers so it's not a new area as such for us. Feel free to take a look at our website http://moriartypress.co.uk/submit-you... for info on what we can offer you as an author.

Many thanks

message 125: by Mark (new)

Mark Sohn (httpgoodreadscommarksohn) | 30 comments Good Day to you all; I am a relatively new author, living by the English Channel in Sussex. My new book, 'Sherlock Holmes and the Whitechapel Murders an account of the matter by John Watson, M.D.' is due out from MX Publishing sometime around February. It tells the story from Watson's p.o.v. as he follows the great detective through the fog and decay of the East End of London in 1888. The murders are all described faithfully, the story is, however aimed to shed light on what MIGHT have happened... for more, including a sneak preview try my blog; http://sherlockholmesof221b.blogspot....

We live in Sussex, about fifty miles south of London-my Wife is from the East End herself. We went to the museum this March and it was marvellous, next time you come you have simply got to go!. They had Robert Downey as Holmes at Tussauds too, which is nearby.

message 127: by Roosa (new)

Roosa (kuollut98) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Roosa from Finland. I love Sherlock and I own most of the books. I read my first Sherlock book on the first grade. I've also watched almost all of the movies and series about Sherlock. Huge fan of BBC New Sherlock. My favourite Sherlock actors are Basil Rathbone and Benedict Cumberbatch. I don't care much about the Elementary series though.

I have loved Sherlock Holmes ever since I saw the 1980s TV series with Jeremy Brett.
I read everything Sherlock Holmes but also many different authors of Crime and Thriller. :-) My favourite one is currently Ursula Poznanski. Her crime fiction is amazing.

message 139: by Papanate (new)

Papanate | 7 comments Hello All

I'm Papanate - have been part of GoodReads since forever - but just recently (today actually) started reading the boards again.

I've been into Sherlock Holmes since my brother and I would watch the Rathbone and Bruce films on Saturday Afternoon TV. Occasionally they would show one on the evening...around 8pm. Later on I found the Collected Works in my parents Library. I've been hooked since.

message 148: by J. (new)

J. Rubino (jrubino) | 307 comments I'm from NJ (Irene Adler country), had a few pastiches published many years ago, along w/ a mystery series with a detective who admired and quoted Holmes. Started reading the Canon when I was 10 or so, have the Baring-Gould and Klinger annotated on my shelf, as well as a number of Sherlockian books, including "Bending the Willow" (I hear a signed 1st went for $2000 a few years ago at NYC's annual Holmes event), and "The Sherlock Holmes Cookbook.
I'm subscribed to the WelcomeHolmes group (a Yahoo group) and think the '80s/90s Granada series was the best adaptation of Holmes. Brett was my favorite classic Holmes, (and David Burke was my favorite Watson) my favorite youngish Holmes was James d'Arcy in a TV film from '02, of the two contemporaries, I prefer Miller and (hold the hate) do not like "Sherlock" at all.
There used to be a Sherlockian society in my area, they've pretty much disbanded, but there is a bi-annual Sherlock Holmes weekend (Nov and March) in Cape May, NJ - the town is known as "Victorian Cape May" because of the many authentically restored Victorian guest houses. The weekend gets sold out pretty quickly.
