Character Names

Well this story is entirely in a new world. (As in, a new world to me.) He was never supposed to have been born. And he wasn't. He was created by someone against the law and only a few people know of his existence for what it is.
That's part of it....
so basically he's supposed to be dead/never alive.

I used to do that a lot, but sometimes that feels too constricting. Now I just go with whatever name fits, and a lot of the time I'll start with a name I love and build the character around it. Actually, two or three of my stories have been inspired by just a name.

That way works too. A lot of the times it's just as easy, but it always depends on the story and how the writer is feeling at the time. Also, characters can get minds of their own, which doesn't always make things easier. :P

Of course, but it works as a base. I think of it kind of like, you don't know how your kid is going to turn out when you name them, so you're just kind of going in blind. That's how I approach my stories. For instance, in my new story, Burning, all I knew at first was that there was going to be a girl named Kitty Slade, and then it just kind of grew from there.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
That's a pretty sic name.

If I'm doing a story like Raindance and it involves a prophecy, then I like to have specific name meanings. Other times, I choose a name and find out later that its meaning is perfect for the character.
It's funny.
I know how you feel though, Lav-dahlink.

I never have the meanings and things fit, it just has to... I don't know, feel like my character is a "Bob" if I'm going to name him Bob.

I did that with WW. I didn't know what Morgan's name meant until I was almost done with the book, and then I found out that one of the meanings was uncertain, which fits so well for her story.

Either way."
Both. :D

Don't you find it interesting when stuff like that happens?

I love crazy characters. They are --oftentimes-- my favourites.

With the characters whose names I don't obsess over forever, (you know, Kitty Slade, Séraphine Labelle, Walter Ulysses Fitzgerald), I do the same thing.

It makes me so happy. But then sometimes the meanings are totally off. That's not so fun.

You should read Burning, then. At least half the cast of characters (and it's a seriously huge amount of characters) could probably be committed without a problem.

Yeah...those moments are not very swell. Not at all.
But the other times partially make up for it.

I shall put it on my ever-growing list. In fact, I'll put it closer to the top because the Lord knows I need to read about some crazy people. XD

Sooooo my internet is going to die in eight minutes, unfortunately. Just a warning for when I randomly stop responding to your comments.

It's okay. :) I have to leave soon. Far past the time when I should be in bed on a school night. According to my mother.
(Feel free to ignore when I say things like love, mate, dear, darling/dahlink. They are things I say to friends and such when I am happy or tired. :] )

All of my energy is being wasted on school stuff—well, not wasted exactly because it's better than what I'd be writing otherwise—so my non-school projects are all kind of mehhh.
I don't really have a bedtime, but the stupid school turns the internet off at midnight, so I usually end up going to bed then.

Thou fareth well ;) ... 'cept bein' tired all the time from school stuff. Tonight was church night. We played football with highschool boys way older then us, but it was fun. How've you been, luff?

Ah yes.
Well I hardly have time for writing, which is sad and kind of ridiculous, because if I didn't read a book almost every day, I could write. I suppose it's partially due to lack of motivation at this point. Stress, whatever.
What do you like better? Your school projects or you non-school ones?
I see.

I know exactly how you feel, although I haven't been reading too much either. I haven't been doing much of anything, really, but real life stuff as of late. And definitly my non-school ones. I've recently missed a ton of school, and all the projects are sucking majorly right now... unless, of course you count track as a non-school project. 'Cause track is killing me right now.

I'm glad you're doing well.
I'm better than I was a few weeks ago. This is part of the reason I am on now, when I wasn't then.
That does sound fun. (though there are only two sets of highschool boys older than me now. :P)
Tonight was a church night for me too, but in a different way, I suppose. I am a leader for a group of 3 and 4 year olds, so we told stories, ate food, played games, and sang songs with actions. :P
I missed ya. Hard to believe we've known each other for almost two years.
I really need to start reading your stuff again.

I hadn't been reading either until some tiem in February. When my new semester started and I got out of my depressing little hole that I had fallen into.
That sucks, m'dear. I'll keep you in my prayers. I wish you luck with your schoolwork and life in general.
Nope. I count track as a torture device designed by those with physical prowess to make people like me feel uncomfortable. :P jk I just don't like anything to do with running because I have asthma. haha
Hope it gets better for you!
I have to go to bed now, unfortunately. Have a splendid day tomorrow and a wonderful night's sleep, Kriss.
It was awesome to talk to you again.

.... I totally just realized your last reply went to Niki. Forget I typed anything out to that. No wonder I was so confused.
Ah, well that' good at least! I hope things keep getting better for ya ;)
Bahah, make me feel young. Everyone in highschool is older then me. I'm only 13 right now, but next year I'ma be a freshman, finally. And oh, sounds fun! Our church is a Wedsday youth-group, thing, so all kinds of kids from our school end up going. Its so much fun, usually. We mess around for a few hours, go to service, then mess around for around two hours more. The whole thing lasts from around 4:30 to 8:30/9:00, counting from us getting out of school to when we get home.
I know. I've missed you too its been too long since we talked last xD hahah. And I know. I don't feel like its been that long, really.
Don't worry about it if you're busy, though. Not a big deal ;)

Thanks. So do I. ;)
You're not that much younger than me. I'm only a sohpomore. So it's, like, two years difference.
That is a lot of time! The little ones would never last that long. olo We have our youth group on thursday from 7-9, but everyone shows up early because we have an indoor skatepark, video games, and comfy couches. :)
*hug*
I looked at the thingy (<-- evidence of sleep deprivation) and was like, "Holy goodness, I've been here since the summer before grade nine!".
No. I love reading your stuff. I was pretty much your biggest fan the entire time you were working on The Seventh Dimension! I seriously remember being uber excited for every new chapter. Seriously Kriss: your talent is astounding.

:D Nice Lav. *high five*
Gosh darnit. I gotta go to! But we will talk more, Kenny D: I've been neglecting goodreads as of late, and I defenetly enjoy your conversation. I'll probably be on tomorrow ;)

Well, my school projects are significantly better, and more mature and more well-written, but my for funzies stuff is more fun to write.

Wellllll... My school writing is fun too. I mean, one of my for-school projects right now is a play based on the Firebird fairytale. Blah, it's hard to explain.

Most of the time I go by the meaning of the name and the way it fits with the personality.
Like my character, Endellion. Her name means "Fire soul". She was a very stubborn, strong-willed, socially defiant character with spunk and spirit to spare. So it fit.
Then again, she's a girl.
