Character Names

susan, elizabeth, franchesca... i don't know something strange and a bit olderish sounding? good luck.

Katie, I recommend something serious sounding, oh, like Gerald or Arthur?

Meaning is VERY important to me. For example, I'm currently writing a story about a girl who is kind of forced to be one way and so she starts to kind of give her life a makeover. Her name means "The one that follows the right path." (Irony!)
I would help everyone with their names, wielding my awesome name book, but it's packed cuz we just moved -.-

ohohoho that's a really good idea. you have inspired me.

Francis? Theodore? James? Michael?

So I have a character named Charlene. She's going to be from Johannesburg. I've heard that South Africa is somewhat globalized (like mostly everywhere nowadays) but how Anglicized are the first names? Should I change it? Or maybe it's fine. If Charlene's fine, then I'm still stuck with the last names, I have absolutely no knowledge on South African last names, and Google is not being very reliable per se.

Well, parents nowadays might not necessarily pay attention to the meaning/ethnicity of names, so the first name doesn't need to matter. For example, I know quite a lot of Marys, but "Mary" means "sea of bitterness." I would not name my child a name that means something like that, even if it is a common name.
For the last name: I had a boy in my class who was South African. I'm quite sure that his ethnicity was South African, not just his accent (because he did have one), and his last name was "Tanton." Not totally sure if this is a South African name but maybe it is...

But I'm still defeated on the subject of South African names.
I always end up naming people words in different languages heh heh.
The protag for my newest story is named Samedi, which means Saturday in French. No reason really, I just love the way it sounds.

It's for a girl who has good intentions, but when she tries to do something, she ends up messing the situation--especially when it comes to people her age, since she's mature compared to the other people in her school. The girl is an introvert, as she'd rather watch videos online than communicating with her friends. Speaking of friends, she doesn't have much of them--only around four, due to an incident involving cheating. She's not shy, but it takes time for her to warm up to someone.
In case this is essential--she has some sort of power. Whenever the girl falls asleep, she can do some unknown form of lucid dreaming. Basically, she can put a memory--say, the Civil War--and add or remove certain things that happened before the incident came, hence seeing what would've happened if ____ (insert random event) happened. However, nothing seems to be changed when it happens.
So . . . yeah. x_x Sorry for ranting! -_-'
Hmmm . . . how about Maureen? Or Rose?

*cough* Let's get on, shall we?
Hester (star)
Jocelin (little goth)
Sybil (prophetess)
Tallis (forehead)
Juniper (jumiper berry)
Liv (cover, shield, life)
Danica (morning star)
Kendra (water baby, magical)
Aislinn (vision, dream)
What sound or feel do you want her name to have?

Oh, I do like the sound of Tria, Liv and Aislinn! I'll just try to actually write it before deciding on anything else. xD
Question. If someone's name was Lyndsay and her nickname was Lyn(n) would you spell it Lyn or Lynn?

I think you would spell it however you want. It wouldn't really matter; its pronounced the same.
