Episode 16: Eumaeus – The Shelter, 1 a.m.

Key Players: Bloom, Stephen, Skin-the-Goat

Contrast the narrative styles of Telemachus (narrative young) and Eumaeus (narrative young).

Consider Stephen’s reply to Bloom when asked why he left his father’s house: “To seek misfortune.”

Where in the episode do you find the theme of the Wanderer’s Return?

What do you make of Stephen’s statement “Ireland must be important because it belongs to me.” What about Bloom’s response to it (or lack there of)?

Toward the end of the episode, Bloom begins musing about capitalizing on Stephen’s potential as a vocalist. What do you think about Bloom’s ulterior motives?

Organ: Nerves • Art: Navigation • Color: None • Symbol: Sailors Technic: Narrative (old)
