Yeah!

The fact that they actually have flaws and problems automatically makes them more complex than the characters of twilight...

I know! Tons of people like Edward and Jacob, though...

message 1355: by Soleil (new) - rated it 2 stars

Soleil @Rachel i truely dont understand how the two books can even be compared! they are so radically different, and harry potter would win in any fight against edward cullen. hands down.

message 1356: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat 1D...are ya sure you're not talking about Edward and Bella? Bella is one of the worst protagonists I've ever read about. :/

message 1357: by Soleil (new) - rated it 2 stars

Soleil Bella is absolutely TERRIBLE!!!! if possible, she becomes more babyish as the series progresses. She spends most of her time crying, and when she's not crying, shes thinking about her "true love". I'm all for romance, I love the nicholas sparks novels, but she is over the top dramatic about it. I just wanted to shake her and yell THIS IS YOUR VERY FIRST BOYFRIEND. YOU HAVE NO EXPIRIENCE WITH RELATIONSHIPS WHY ARE YOU THROWING YOU "EXISTANCE" AWAY FOR A RANDOM GUY?!?!?!?!

message 1358: by Diane (new) - rated it 3 stars

Diane Natalie wrote: "Ehhh long story. Hey I don't like her, and dark fantasy is something I love a lot. One is A Game of Thrones, and SMeyer will never be in the same league as that series ever."
There are a TON of people who write dark fantasy, I don't know why S. Meyer writing it would anger you. I don't think she is even attempting to be like George R.R. Martin.

message 1359: by Diane (new) - rated it 3 stars

Diane Soleil wrote: "HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LIKE HARRY????!!!!!!!! "
I don't, Harry is not very likable to me. I far prefer Ron over him. Actually I prefer Ron over most of the characters in HP.

Soleil wrote: "Meyer failed to realize that men are not referred to as "beautiful""
Men can absolutely be beautiful. You may not like it but they can be.

I guess you have your reasons why you like HP better than Twilight, though not everyone shares your preferences.

Ehh i just think I don't like her personally. She's a really horrible author to me. :/ It's my opinion...i just don't like her at all. I really don't care what she writes, she just needs to at least try harder. The Host was a horrid example of sci-fi, and seeing that she's writing dark fantasy worries me that she'll fail at that.

message 1361: by Soleil (new) - rated it 2 stars

Soleil i actually thought the host was good. much better than the crappy twilight books.

message 1363: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat And how do you know if they're all stupid and boring just from the concept of the first book? And I use to like Twilight, but then I went through an English class that showed how to mark up a book, and I saw how lame the vampires and how annoying Bella was, and I just got rid of the whole series after I marked them.

Rachel Natalie wrote: "And how do you know if they're all stupid and boring just from the concept of the first book? And I use to like Twilight, but then I went through an English class that showed how to mark up a book,..."

Bella can be annoying, but vampires are so not! Don't even go that far!

message 1365: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat I'm not saying vampires are lame...the ones in Twilight are. They freaking sparkle and are so self absorbed in their own misery it's hilarious. Vampires to me are a deadly devilish monster, not some whiny teenager who wants to screw a human female.

message 1366: by Rachel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rachel Edward is NOT whiny! Also hardly any popular vampiers are "deadly devilish monsters"

message 1367: by Diane (new) - rated it 3 stars

Diane I'd say let's just agree to disagree. We have different perspectives on the vamps on twilight. I can understand Natalie because I know some people who would've liked scarier, more traditional vampires; they disliked that vampires were sort of "humanized" in twilight.
But I personally liked that some vampires are sympathetic characters for a change. (Although nowadays, it's extremely common.)

message 1368: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat Oh yeah I can go through a number of vampire books where they're devilish creatures with one thing on mind...blood. Hey it's my opinion on if Edward's whiny or not. My version of a whiny ass is different than other peoples'...so sorry if I offend anyone with my ideas of what I think. :/

message 1369: by Soleil (new) - rated it 2 stars

Soleil Edward is totally whiny... he is soooo not a real vampire, hes a sparkly fairy.

The Scarecrow Soleil wrote: "Edward is totally whiny... he is soooo not a real vampire, hes a sparkly fairy."

That's an insult to sparkly fairies everywhere.

Diane Edward, don't listen to what people say, don't let the haters bring you down and make you feel bad about yourself. You can be whatever you want. Screw society! You are beautiful the way you are. You were born this way! (Okay maybe not, but you were "destined" to be that way).

Social justice for emotional vampires!

EDWARD IS NOT A SPARKLY FAIRY! Thats just like saying that chocolate tastes bad! (Which it never could!) Thats also an insult to Harry Potter; knowing that it is a million years UNDER Twilight!

brooke1994 I don't think the comparison is fair either, while I think Harry Potter is boring, I also think comparing two fictional things is lame.

Different story for me! I have always loved chocolate! When I was in kindergarden, for symbol day, I brought in the symbol for Godiva Chocolate! I was the only kid who knew what it meant!

Kirby lindt chocolates!!

message 1386: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat I love La Brand chocolate. :D They have a factory close to where I live, but it's hell expensive. But it's so tasty, and the truffles are godlike. I love homemade chocolate. :L And isn't Lindt the ones who make those fancy looking truffles, or is that a different brand?

Brooklyn umm i thought we were talking about harry potter or twlight not choclate cause this whole desscotion is about harry potter or twlight well you know just saying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!that ever one that is talking about choclate should maybe go back on harry potter or twlight just saying

message 1388: by Rachel (last edited Jan 11, 2012 04:03PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rachel I love milk chocolate! I also <3 lindor truffles! And by the way, chocolate is sort of like Twilight and Harry Potter; Twilight= really good chocolate, Harrp Potter= yucky christmas countdown stuff that they call chocolate!

message 1389: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat :/ But I hate christmas countdown shit but I love Harry Potter. So that doesn't work for me.

message 1390: by Kayla (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kayla I liked Twilight, and LOVED Harry potter, but I don't really see the similarities between them... I guess it's because they're both really popular that they're being compared, but they couldn't be more different! One is all about romance and the other all about a school of magic. Also, twilight had several slow parts for me. I hardly ever lost interest when reading Harry Potter!

message 1391: by Rachel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rachel Natalie wrote: ":/ But I hate christmas countdown shit but I love Harry Potter. So that doesn't work for me."

I haven't read Harry Potter but I know that the titles bore me! Every single book has Harry Potter blah blah blah. Harry Potter blah blah blah. While Twilight has a new title every time that draws you in if you haven't heard of the books before (because if you had heard about the books, you would have read them already!)

I used to be obsessed with twilight in the fifth/sixth grade and i still like the books, just not as much as I used to. and I think that J.K. Rowling could have possibly left the "Harry POtter and the" parts out of her titles, but I don't want to critize on a little thing like that since the books themselves were so great. I try not to judge a book by its cover or title

message 1394: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat Well it's not about the titles. Trust me I have a bunch of books with horrid titles, but they're some of the best books I've ever read. The title doesn't make the book...it's the contents inside that do. And most everyone I know doesn't like Twilight. Most of my friends, family and boyfriend hate it with a passion. XD

Name 3 books that have a bad title and are still good. I'll read them sometime to make my own opinion!

message 1396: by Nat (last edited Jan 11, 2012 07:28PM) (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, Hold Me Closer Necromancer, and Anna and the French Kiss. To me those titles are misleading, and I read them anyways, and enjoyed them all the way.

message 1397: by Diane (new) - rated it 3 stars

Diane Semi-related factoid: did you guys know that S. Meyer almost titled Twilight "Forks"? How boring/weird/misleading does that sound?

message 1398: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat Forks? If I saw a book like that I'd just assume it was about forks for eating with.

message 1399: by Diane (new) - rated it 3 stars

Diane Natalie wrote: "Forks? If I saw a book like that I'd just assume it was about forks for eating with."
I know right?
At my most creative, I'd assume it was a story about using utensils (forks being the most deadly) as a weapon or something.

message 1400: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat hahaha...forks are deadly hence why at my old school they replaced the metal ones with plastic bendable forks. XD I would be like "oh a whole book about forks...that sounds horrid." i mean Twilight isn't that creative anyways either.
