Kirby I like twilight, and I'm neither a teenage girl nor a mother. and I'm getting pretty fed up with people implying that I like twilight b/c I'm a dolt, or that I didn't like harry potter b/c it's too deep or meaningful for a nitwit such as I. I didn't like harry potter b/c it was a children's book and I just was no longer able to enjoy such writing- it was too simplistic and short to be enjoyable to me. and I've read at least around 500 books (that I can remember), so I really don't think that you can say that people who like twilight just "picked it up" one day after never reading. I'm a dedicated, avid reader who likes twilight and not harry potter. and I'm not gonna call harry potter fans idiots or imply that they don't like twilight b/c they just didn't understand the intricacies of this YA book...wish the same courtesy would be extended to me...

you´re right i liked both and i read a lot, it gets annoying how people can just throw adjectives to other readers just cause they don´t share your veiw on a book.

i liked twilghtcause it was easy and enjoyable and Harry Potter cause the magic world the author created trapped me.

so hell burn me on the stake or hang me but i like them both so what?

I actually see that quite a few of the many books that we've read are similar, as are our ratings...so I'll venture to say that not only have we read a lot of books, our taste ain't bad, either!

YES! I agree.

message 1056: by Carry (new) - rated it 2 stars

Carry I haven't read every comment in here, but I wanted to add my opinion. Sorry if it's boring or already said about 50 times.

I'm not a fan of comparing stuff, but I do it anyway (hypocrite, I know). I read both Harry Potter and Twilight and I must say I really liked Twilight but I absolutely love Harry Potter.

What i like about Twilight is the fact that it's easy to read and understand and it's very fluffy. Personally I think her first book is the best. It had everything to be a very good story but as more the series progress, the more annoying they got. i'm not saying the other books are bad, but well... I started to hate Bella more and more. Meyer is, as said before, a good story teller but a horrible writer. Bella is the typical Danzal in distress and Edward the knight with the shinning armor. I hate the fact that Bella gets everything she wants without paying for it and the chars are so shallow. The whole series is shallow, and that makes it a very good series to read when you don't want to think too much.

I love Harry Potter so much because of them I started to read willingly, I grew up with Harry and his friends and the community is so wonderful. I love it that the characters are so in depth. Everyone of them got a personal life and their own agenda. None of Rowlings characters are prefect and they all have flaws. Only Voldemort is truly evil. I love the universe and it's so extremely detailed!

There is this song that describes what Harry Potter is for loads fan; End of an Era from Oliver Boyd and the Rememberalls.

PS: Harry Potter has it's own music movement, Twilight not. Now who's better :P *troll*

message 1057: by Nicole (new) - rated it 2 stars

Nicole don't compare them both there is no way to compare Rowling's to meyer's

Tikiri I love both Harry potter and twilight. People shouldn't fight with each other about what's the best because everyone has their own opinions.

M2 Emily true dat....

Valerie Hmmmmmmmmmmm....................................

Harry Potter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 1066: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat Ummm Harry Potter. Nobody should compare Twilight and Harry Potter. That's just wrong. HP is a story about friendship, courage and a fight to destroy evil. Twilight is just a piece of crap about a girl whose constantly obsessed with her sparkly boyfriend...can't call him a vampire...since I seriously refuse to.

Nat Amanda wrote: "its that you natalie L?"

message 1068: by Laxmi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Laxmi there is only one reason to compare both: both are fantasy..other then that the story and all are totally different..i liked both but if i have to vote for one: no doubt -- TWILIGHT !! I am in love with it..

message 1069: by Tuuli (new) - rated it 1 star

Tuuli Harry Potter is better, definitely. I have read both series, Potters about ten times and still I find them so fascinating! I can't say the same about Twilight. The biggest difference between the books is that Deathly Hallows was a great finale for the series, but Breaking Dawn kind of spoiled it all. Rowling wasn't scared of killing some of the remarkable characters, even though the audience loved them (and you know I am not talking about Voldemort here). She was able to write a touching, heartwarming book with happy ending despite the fact that many characters died. But I find it as a shortage that Meyer kept all (her favourite?) characters alieve. To me the ending was TOO happy. In my opinion, there should be at least a little loss when the series has been as loved as Harry Potter and Twilight.

I have no idea if anyone understood what I was trying to say :D

Yeah...Twilight was almost like a happy Disney movie...nobody dies, and it just ends with "Yayz we are so happeh...let's kiss and skip among the flowers." That just makes me gag when a series ends like that. I'm writing a story, and it will not be along those lines..of course it's a zombie apocalypse story...so it's almost impossible to make it happy.

message 1071: by John (new) - rated it 5 stars

John Nessie i would love for that to happen, but twilight haters wont let it.
I have been a major twilight fan since the movie came out and whenever i look it up on the computer i'm tortured and the hater say there trying to make me see sence.
It's not right.
Twilight haters just don't have lives, they have to spend all their time hating on a series.
What losers.
And i have nothing against harry potter either, but the twilight haters made me hate harry potter.

message 1072: by John (last edited Oct 15, 2011 12:59PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

John And i admire stephenie meyer for the way she ended the series,it's just the part about jacob not being a true werewolf that i don't care for.

message 1073: by Nicole (new) - rated it 2 stars

Nicole Harry Potter is on my to-read! I'm so excited

message 1074: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat Hey I have a right to hate something. I don't go around, and flaunt hating Twilight, I just don't like it. I don't care if someone likes the series...that's their deal, and their opinion. I'm big into English structure and writing, and Meyer's work just didn't cut it for me. I have a life, yes, I just don't spend all my time wasting it on a stupid little series that I don't like nor have respect for. It's all just opinions, people can hate it or love it, some just decide to take too far one way. I'm just not a big fan of the obsessed Twilight fans...that's too much of an obsession, it's not healthy.

Not all twilight haters are harry potter. Trust me, there are many people who like different books and series who hate twilight. Read Harry Potter, it's great.

message 1078: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Same here...preferably I enjoyed the male figures in both of those books. And the female leads were actually strong willed, and could survive on wits and perseverance rather than whining and moaning about not getting their way.

message 1082: by Ashley (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ashley Naranjo I ONLY READE THE FIRST 2 BOOKS OF THE HUNGER GAMES I I DIDNT LIKE IT SO I STOPPED READING IT AND HARRY POTTER GOT ME REALLLLLY BORED ON THE FIRST 3 CHAPTER BUT TWILIGHT GOT ME REALLY INTERESTED AND I READ ALL OF THOSE BOOKS IN 2 MKONTHS AND I DONT LIKE TO READ SO THATS A SHOCKER
!!!!!!!!

message 1083: by Veronica (new)

Veronica I'll say I like the Twilight book series but prefer the Harry Potter movies. Twilight books are shorter and keep me entertained while the Harry Potter books are too long for me and bore me to death. Though, I would actually prefer see the movie Harry Potter than the movie Twilight, even though they are still long but it got's more action than Twilight.

message 1086: by Veronica (new)

Veronica I ALSO READ HUNGER GAMES AND I DIDN'T LIKE IT. ACTUALLY MY BEST SERIES OF BOOKS I'VE READ IS PRETTY LITTLE LIARS. <3 THAT BOOK-------------^^^^^^^^^

message 1087: by Nat (new) - rated it 1 star

Nat I don't mind people liking Twilight, but having that much of an obsession of a simplistic story is quite scary. In other words Peeta >>>>>Edward or Jacob any day. :D

I agree! I find it unrealistic and creepy. Not a admirable relationship as a model.

message 1091: by Melissa (new) - rated it 2 stars

Melissa "You can sit and analyze Harry Potter for hours and hours. Some people like that. Me included. The more you look into the story, the more you find.

That being said, some people don't like it. They want a mindless story. They get why Bella chose Edward. There's not much psychological depth to her. Just "I did this because of this."

It's not fair to compare the two, especially on Twilight. Because sole Twilight fans will defend their fandom without much other background information. Not to say that Harry Potter fans that are also Twilight fans will also defend Twilight, but mostly these will defend Harry Potter.

Basically, a person who picks up Twilight and hasn't read before will prefer mindless books. Ex. City of Bones or Shiver ../?

A Harry Potter fan is able to appreciate a greater variety of books. including Twilight and those mentioned before. Also more complicated titles. "
