Twilight v. Harry Potter?

IMO, Twilight is only popular because of the romance. Thats why so many girls want to read it. They want to believe that you can end happily ever after, and nobody will get hurt in the process. Unfortunately, that doesnt happen, but the girly, wishy-washy, wanna-be-damsel-in-distress really loved reading that, and daydreaming that it could happen. BUT on any given day, i would choose Harry Potter. Harry Potter has themes, life lessons that actually apply to life. Harry Potter is about courage, loyalty, and sacrifice, while Twilight is about a suicidal girl who is all to dependent on her all too perfect boyfriend. As for the writers, I think that Stephanie Meyer is creative, in her own way. But the way JKR can take a small side deatil in book one, and make it into a major plot point in book 3, nearly 2 years after, is truly amazing. She strings them all together perfectly, and sometimes i feel she had already planned each and every plot point in each and every book by the time Book 1 was published. Truly epic.

Sorry for the long rant. This is all my personal opinion, so, please, no death threats. :)
HP set the trend when it comes to fantasy/adventurous serieS, i guess.. it's one of those series that goes wayyyyyy popular and favorited by many..it's a perfectly, let me emphasize, P-E-R-F-E-C-T-L-Y WRITTEN story..
written by the 'Einstein' in literature world (and My Queen, Joanne Kathleen Rowling).. i honestly dunno anybody who hated Harry Potter..do you?
Well, as for twilight, i dunno, maybe because the uber-cheesy love story itself captured the heart of some people?.. it's diff from those of Anne Rice's.. it JUST set a start for vampire series.. unlike HP which started it ALL................ xD

to tell you the truth, i like both of them, But Harry Potter has been in my heart a whole lot longer then Twilight. HP seems more apart of me then Twilight.
Yeah, I think the sentimental value all Harry Potter fans have is so much more stronger than the Twilight one. That's one of the greatest things about Harry Potter and I have grown to really love the fan base around it.
Mutters to self: Why do I keep clicking on these HP v T posts? The arguments are cyclical, and they never go anywhere. It's all opinion anyway.*clicks out of thread*
I do not think you can compare the two - they are different. However as an overall series, I like Harry Potter a lot more.

Bah I'll take Harry Potter anyday over Twilight. Nothing against Twilight fans but it was to romancie for me. I loved how Rowling brought in new characters in each book, new spells, new fights etc. I was quite disappointed with Meyers last book of the Twilight series. My fav out of the series had to be New Moon and then Eclipse.
I love both of the series very dearly,and i am very saddened when i hear both series being dissed.The thing that bugs me is that harry potter fans are so inconsiderate to the fans of twilight it's sickening.
Not once is harry potter mention on a twilight fourm,think about that all you harry potter fans.
The two series shouldn't even be compared,just because they are both so popular that doesn't mean that they pay any resemblence to each other.

No way! just laughed here for like 10 minutes! Twilight and Harry potter are nothing alike! I should now I love Harry Potter and Twilight I have read each of them like 1 million times!

I didn't find any action...I was expecting sort of a war in the end but MEYER simply disappointed me...she made Volturi seem too dangerous throughout the book, giving quotes like "Volturi never gives second chances" and decision once taken by them is irreversible but what happens in the end??? They kind of have a 'conversation' and they agree on not to kill Renesmee...if someone calls that 'action'...then there's nothing more to do than being sorry for that person!

I have not read any of the Harry Potter books but i've read all the Twilight books and love then. so i will have to read some of the Harry Potter to see how they are.

I think that Twilight is way better because well in HP the same thing repeats over and over. voldemort comes and harry defeats him. Every time. Like seriously.

A much more relevant - and interesting - debate would be to ask if Twilight deserves its fame. Sure, there'd be flaming, but at least it wouldn't be, as someone aptly said of this debate, apples and oranges.
Considering the fact that Harry Potter contains an actual plot, well developed and well thought out characters, and amazing writing, there is no comparison. Harry Potter overtakes this... this.... JOKE of a book series (excuse me - saga) named Twilight in a heartbeat.
Although I do understand why a person can say that they are incomparable, I do think that you can compare these to. And NO, this is not just "my opinion". Opinions are one thing, but when backed up by reason and fact, they turn into ideas and theories (which can be proven).

There is no comparison. Harry Potter is timeless, Twilight is trendy.
Ridiculously easy to choose. I really dislike the Twilight saga. I've read both and will always be a Harry Potter girl.
There is no comparison, Harry Potter is epic, I have been a fan of the series since i was eleven, and even though some people find it really cliche, Harry Potter was my childhood. I mean, sure i liked Twilight whe it came out, but you just cannot compare harry potter to it.

I'd like to add that I do not believe the Breaking Dawn movie needs to be in two parts. It's not Harry Potter, where we practically grew up with the whole wizarding world. Nor will it ever be. Kids dream of becoming wizards/witches; who dreams of becoming a constantly depressed vampire with a kid at 18?

well just to share my two cents, i was a non reader untill twilght, and i did loved them at first, but once i started reading other things my view of them changed, i´m a huge fan of HP and they shouldn´t be in the same category.
Harry Potter is epic.. It will always be here!! Twilight is great but not better than Harry Potter!
