Discussing 'City of Bones'
I didn't even know there was going to be a movie, but the Narnia ones are called The Chronicles of Narnia:____, and (as much as it pains me to reference Twilight) the Twilight movies were Twilight:_____.I think doing it as one movie would be very strange. There's too much to fit, so they would either be bad movies or completely unfaithful.
Ok, I just followed the link and saw the picture of the person they cast for Clary...I DO NOT APPROVE. Besides the fact that I think they should have someone who's actually the right age, she just doesn't look the part at all. Plus, her hair isn't even the right color.
I agree with you about Lily Collins. I do think she will be able to pull it off.
However, I dont like Alex Pettyfer as Jace. I know he fits the description, but for me he just seems a little...off.
I dont know what exactly, but there is certainly something he lacks that Jace needs...
Its late here, im sure i'll think of what it is in the morning...

I think Alex Pettyfer would be awful as Jace. For one thing, he's in too many movies right now. You don't see the character, you see Alex Pettyfer. For another, he just isn't right. I agree with Jess that he's just a little off.Regan ♥ wrote: "They can always make her older. THat wouldn't hurt. They do it in a lot of other movies."
Just because they do it doesn't mean they should. A lot of the time they ruin the movie that way, particularly one like this. And yes, she can act like a teenager (well, I'm assuming, since I've never actually seen it) but she shouldn't. A teenager should be played by a teenager. The real thing is her, though. She just doesn't look the part, and not because she's too old OR because of her hair.

haha I know :)
I posted that at like, 2AM...
Yeah, thats another issue with Ale as Jace. He is in too many movies around that time period. We'll be seeing him as too many other characters when we should really be seeing him as only Jace.

I'm happy with Lily Collins, because I know she has talent. Even if she doesn't look the part now, they can easily change her appearance. Also, quite a few movies use actors who are older than the character they play. That can be manipulated.Personally, I think Alex Pettyfer is a great choice for Jace. He is in quite a few movies right now, but he looks exactly how I've always pictured Jace.
Like Ishita said, the book trailer model (Maxwell Reed) would be a perfect Simon. I don't like the character Simon, but I would go crazy if Reed got the part.

★ Jessica ★ wrote: "i think she'll pull it off, but there could have been someone so much better..."Yeah, I guess you're right.
I just looked back, and I sound really argumentative. Sorry about that. I'm just a huge proponent of adaptations staying as true to the book as humanly possible.
I understand, but she somewhat fits my image of Clary. As Jessica said, she'll pull it off. My first choice would have been Molly Quinn, though.
hmmm...yeah, i guess that could have worked...
I think all these book-to-film adaptions NEED the main teenage characters to be unknowns. And then some of the adults/supporting characters can be bigger names.

If they need to have big/bigger names, they should be grownups. But they should be chosen because they're good for the character, not because they're famous and will draw in money.
exactly.
I dont envy the casting people working on City of Bones.
Im almost done with it, and so far it seems impossible to cast perfectly...
I seriously can not think of one actor who would do a good job in it.

I agree with you on that.
I mean, hes not ugly or bad looking, but he certainly isnt as attractive as everyone makes him out to be...

Alex Pettyfer has officially been offered the role of Jace...
I think hes going to take it.
I dont particularly like Alex, but I dont dislike him either.
However, I DO NOT want him to be Jace.
Ive finished the book now, and think he would be awful...
Theres just something off about him. Plus, I dont think he can pull of the sarcasm...

Eugh. Check the IMDB page.
Looks like there are two cast members now.
Alex also says its a 'great' screenplay, and very faithful to the book...

Ew. No. No. No. No. No. He should NOT be Jace. End of story. The faithful to the book part is good though.
He's been offered the role, but according to Cassie Clare, nothing is official yet.http://cassandraclare.livejournal.com...
So glad its Alex for Jace, he's by far the best choice. Not to sure about this Lily chick, but she could be good.
She has to approve major changes, but that's it. Like in the last movie, the scene with Harry and Hermione dancing, she could have hated it, and it wouldn't have mattered because it's not a major change. I'm almost positive she had no control over casting though. (If you go to her website, on FAQs, the answer to "can I be in the next movie" is "go ask Warner Bros")The other thing is that I think she is the author with the most control aside from those who turn their own books into movies, but it's not because she's a billionaire. She was very smart when optioning the rights is all.
It depends how much control the author has...
Sometimes its just a movie based on the book, and the author has very little control at all. All he/she does is outline the basic plot.
But other times, the author is actually part of the production team, often as a screenplay writer, where they help with the script and casting ect...

Really :O
Yeah, they should have at least consulted her...
If I was her, I would be SO annoyed. Do you know weather or not she will be on set?

Oh my goodness!
Major shock.
Alex pettyfer turned down the role as Jace.He said no. Instead, he will be staring in the adaption of Revenge of the Witch
I am absolutely shocked. Even though I am against it, I was sure he would take the role...
What do you think?

*starts singing Handel's Hallelujah Chorus* I am very happy, and I now have a higher opinion of Alex Pettyfer.I thought he would take it too, and I'm impressed that he turned it down, even if it was just to do a different movie. From everything he's been in recently, I would have expected him to be in both.
Even if it's not official, it sounds like it's headed that way. And if it isn't, well, I can dream, can't I? :P
Alex Pettyfer??? Doesnt he have a part in "I am Number four" ? If he plays Jace, it will completely ruin the books for me...just like twilight....:(
I think Douglas Booth is a better Jace then Alex Pettyfer.
Something just needs to be done about his hair, and he should look a little tougher. Then he would be almost perfect!

Yeah, if his hair and clothes weren't so preppy, he'd be good. Give him a hair cut and dress him a little more "cool"/"tough".
So If I was casting, I would seriously consider Douglas Booth for Jace. As far as Isabelle Lightwood goes, I think Nicole Trunfio would do a perfect job (at least looks wise):

Thoughts?

Did anyone else see this? http://twitter.com/cassieclare/status...
I think Cassie Clare almost broke Twitter with that statement. Obviously she can't/won't give details, but many people think he's got the role of Jace. Personally, I'm not one to assume, but I don't know what else it could be. Opinions?
What's wrong with you Cassandra Clare? You can do better than that! But, doesn't the casting director decide, not her?
She later said he is one of the actors being considered...I hope he doesnt get it. He is SO not Jace.
However, Ive been thinking about a possible cast for a while now, and if I was casting director, here is who I would consider:
(Lily Collins is perfect as Clary, so no objections)
Jace: Douglas Booth
[image error]
Isabel Lightwood: Nicole Trunfio
Alec Lightwood: Ben Barnes
Valentine: Daniel Craig
Luke: Gerard Butler

Jamie Campbell Bower is official Jace. Hopefully we see Simon, Alec and Isabel soon!

Revenge of the Witch (other topics)City of Bones (other topics)

Did anyone notice the film is going to be called 'The Mortal Instruments', not 'City of Bones'.
Does this mean its all three books in one? What do you think?
Who do you think should be cast in the roles?
What are you expecting of the movie?
