Yes, with the new firmware update you can get periodicals from Kobo.

If any more were available from BB&B, I would order another. Even though I have heard they are not honoring the rebates it was worth every penny of the $32. I haven't heard about my rebate but don't much care one way or the other.

The Literati has been a great reader. My daughter and I both love it. Even though I can't get another for the sale price, I am considering ordering from Amazon and paying $69 for a second one.
Yesterday I handed off my Literati to my roommate. He doesn't care about LCD or battery life or any of the reasons I prefer my Kindle - it's an ereader, it has books on it, he loves it. Totally worth the $40, without a doubt.
I'm in the process of trying to create a catalog of my books for him to peruse, but whittling out the ones he has zero interest in has been a chore.
I'm just happy we are now a 2 ereader household.

My three youngest kids to seem to prefer the color backlit screen and are all intrigued with the Literati. I know if I have another one laying around the house it will encourage reading. I'm going to load it up with books of interest to them.
Nobody touches my K3, it's strictly off limits.

MrsJ, I buy from anywhere I want and just strip the DRM. It took me awhile to figure out how to get it off Topaz books since you can't do that with just Calibre. Even though I know how to get around Topaz now, I won't buy them on principle. I buy those elsewhere and convert. I will, however, take them when offered free and disinfect them. :-)

- My Cybook Gen3 went for a quick dip in the tub and now doesn't always remember what page I was on, upgrading the firmware and formating the SD card might help... I am disenchantanted with this reader now that I have to load a different firmware each time I want to read a Mobipocket eBook vs an ePub eBook. It might be worth actually loading my eBooks into Calibre so that I could convert most of them over to a new format. Not all will convert though, even when liberated.
- My BeBook Mini is sitting in a drawer, my son has decided it will be his when he learns how to read longer books, he is only 7 and loves books. :)
- My PocketBook 360 is getting a lot of use! I love this little reader, it reads all the books I already have and any I want to buy in ePub now that Mobi is mostly gone. I can even download books from my local library and not care too much about format when I am looking at titles.
Having more than one reader means that I can loan one out and not miss it, my Sister has had my BeBook One for a few months now and may just get to keep it as a gift. :)

I've been looking at the Cybook Orizon because I like the idea that you can upload your own fonts to it. The only thing that is holding me back is that no local shop has it in stock so I can't check out the screen. I'm very tempted by the Sony 350 but I'd rather not buy a Sony since they don't do firmware upgrades and you cannot, easily, upload your own fonts. I've also looked at the BeBook Neo but I'm not sure about the Wacom touchscreen (always have to use the pen).

I've also been spoiled and do not want to read from a PC, its an e-reader or nothing now, so I bit the bullet and got me a Kindle 3 and its a fun little gadget that has re-kindled :) my joy of reading, so I'm now part of the I own more than one e-reader and I couldn't be happier

Yay! Welcome to the club!

But I already have an ereader and there is no reason to buy a new one...

There was no reason for me to buy satin sheets either, but I did. A Kindle seems a lot more useful. And less likely to dump you in the floor if you move too quickly. By that reasoning, a Kindle is the safest thing to buy. (My roommate calls that "wine logic".)

LOL! I love wine logic. :-)
I have to deal with "man logic" though, and he's going to attempt to shit bricks if I buy a new reader right now (especially since he bought the first one right around christmas...). He did a lot of research and decided that:
- Sony has the best hardware + library lending but is too expensive
- Kindle had the best platform + catalog but was too invasive (privacy concerns - how much info does it gather?)
- B&N was just too expensive for what you got (alwasy compared to the kindle and always lacking, but I really like the nook color!)
- Kobo + library lending was priced just right (but we both thought the wi-fi was more robust than it actually is)
-iPad was just a giant iPhone without the phone so why bother

Ah, yes, man logic can be tricky to bring around. Perhaps in a few months then? I understand the privacy concerns, but you can get the wifi only then turn off the wireless. If there's any worry about it turning itself on, you can also set your router to block its connection.

*wonders if I can get the same skin for a kindle and if it is better to have a naked reader or one in a case*

I have found myself reading more with my kindle then my nook color, I guess the kindle e-ink makes it easier on the eyes even though I've never had issues with a computer type background and it being so light helps a lot

LOL Go for it!

should I get the wi-fi only? I've never found the need to download books on the fly - I typically have such a huge TBR mountain that I don't go shopping for books randomly (unless it's a sale!). I also have wi-fi at work and at home. The only places I can see me needed 3G are in places that I also can't get AT&T cell reception, so...
MrsJoseph wrote: "So here's a question: should I get the wi-fi only? "
If you don't have a specific need for 3G, then I'd go with wifi only. The only reason I got the 3G is because I knew I'd be taking at least one trip where I wouldn't have any wifi access, and I can use the Kindle to check the business email via the web. If not for that, I'd have gotten wifi only.

I rebooted to see if it had to go through this loading process every time and it didn't. I guess it's just if you add new books to the card. I am using a PNY SDHC 4GB card.
