message 152: by Firda (last edited Nov 20, 2013 07:28PM) (new)

Firda (ffirdafz) | 39 comments 1. I am (inherently) drawn to men with wild hairs (say, Hayden Christensen as Anakin in Star Wars, Ben Whishaw, Jonas Kaufmann)
2. Sometimes I think I am an odd mixture of stuffs and interest (I love mountain climbing and classical music for example, but perhaps it isn't as odd as I thought!). Therefore, sometimes I think I am composed of contradictory things (delicate numb, silent babbler, messy neat-freak, old lady trapped in a young girl body)
3. I have always fancied the idea of becoming a mathematician or physicist since high school, but sadly I was rarely patient enough doing mathematical proofing. So yeah here I am, glad and content enough currently to be an engineering physics major.
4. Used to think that novels are waste of time, changed my mind since I read Laskar Pelangi.
5. Main interests in life, up until today : science, arts, music (specifically classical music), technology (ah well, doesn't differ too much from my almamater!)
6. Has always been interested in learning German since my father taught me numbers in German while I was 8 years old. Other than German, I am also interested in learning French and Japanese.
7. First English novel read was Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.
8. I am definitely an introvert, remember not to mix it with antisocial (Although I quite often feel disdainful towards other people and sometimes humanity, for they seem so petty, tawdry, corny, and I feel somehow unsuitable towards them, which might be classified as antisocial from the outer side).
9. I have somewhat complicated feeling towards jazz.
10. MBTI type : INTP, but that was my first result, after I retook a test I got the result INTJ (So what is actually is my type? Maybe a flip-switch of both, because sometimes I just want to leave everything open, but most of the time I want to have the definite thing).

3. Avid fan of movies and television series too
4. Used to listen to lots of music, but now only listen to musics plays by co-workers or OST
5. I know how to drive but have difficulties recognizing the road, so definitely need navigator by my side
6. Can't stand horror movies (don't even tried to watch one)
7. Don't like cheese ( I know I'm odd )
8. Never had a blackberry in my life (got BB id on my tablet but just got my mother's contact)
9. I'm in my 30's

Ahoy, fellow RPG player!
I guess that will be my number one.

1. I used to play RPG a lot. But since I started my foray during the end of PSX era, my favorite games are those that are considered as suck by others (FFIX, Star Ocean 3 and Chrono Cross come to mind).

5. I'm not really a romance person (and romance often plays a great part in YA fictions, yes?)
6. Used to be a little bit of a fujoshi
7. I'm somewhat of a yogi, though definitely out of practice nowadays
8. People say I have a voice of a child
9. I like reading fanfiction, mostly from the above RPG fandoms as well as various anime/manga fandoms

message 166: by Bikka Mitya (new)

Bikka Mitya | 6 comments Hi guys,
I posted the random 10 below at the Welcome page but I figure I should post it here too since, well, this is where it belongs. Here's my random 10 with some editing.

1. I only drink my coffee black. Preferably Indonesian single origins.
2. I try to run 5Ks two to three times a week. Started running regularly on November 2013, used to hate it so much, but now I'm addicted and hoping to run races every week.
3. I work for the government. Sometimes I hate it but most of the times I love it. It allows me to travel the world and helped me score a Master's study in the U.S. for two years, so I guess it's a pretty cool gig.
4. I love Paulo Coelho. No, really, I LOVE him. My favorite is Eleven Minutes. It's awesome how he manages to capture a turbulent heart, mind, and body of a woman in those pages.
5. Recently I managed to completely quit smoking after almost 10 years of quitting and relapsing.
6. I spent 12 years in Bandung before moving back to Jakarta after college. Family still owns a house there but our home base has always been J-City.
7. I own 20 Kindle books and about 15 printed books waiting to be read. My book-shopping habit is pretty random and impulsive. I prefer buying books with good reviews and/or from famous authors but recently I have been exploring new stuff.
8. My first book-character crush is Julian Kirrin from the Famous Five. Lima Sekawan, anyone?
9. Growing up, I wanted to be George a.k.a Georgina Kirrin. Hmm... I think I still do. Make it a mix of George Kirrin, Pippi Longstocking, and the girls of Mallory Towers.
10. I had minimum English lesson outside of school. English songs and movies with subtitles helped me a lot, especially Sesame Street.

7. I have another hobby, it's drawing. But it doesn't mean my drawing is good. I usually draw dots, lines and graphs (hehe...since I'm a math teacher).
8. I can eat everything. So you can treat me anything. :)
9. I love my mom and my big brother so much. I don't know why. haha.

Raka Nouvel (noboru26) | 3 comments Femmy wrote: "A math teacher! Do you like to read nonfiction on math? I love Fermat's Enigma: The Epic Quest to Solve the World's Greatest Mathematical Problem."

Hm, I haven't read it.
Actually I'm too romantic and dramatic to read nonfiction. I never look for nonfiction books, but if I found a very good one, I will read it.

For some reason I love math problems who delivered in 'not so math'-way. I mean, like we can learn about fibonacci sequence from playing with flower or strobilus. Moreover, this is my project in my undergraduate thesis. hehehe...

note: perhaps I will read your recommendation, but you know, it's hard to find that kind of book in a regular bookstore.

message 170: by Anny (new)

Anny | 225 comments @Raka: Math problems in 'not-so-math-way' is exactly what I'm looking for in a popular science (Math) books! I think the most memorable science book that I read is Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid. It's recommended to me by my professor, so yeah, it's very good in a non-math way I think.

P.S. I do think it'll be quite difficult to find in regular bookstore. Better luck online maybe?

I know, i'm terrible. I've also gone out wearing two different shoes (the same type, I only wear sneakers but still) and washed my face with toothpaste while I brush my teeth with facial wash.

I got more.

You want them.

I once fed my cat cereal and tip over cat food into my bowl...only realizing it after I took a bite, I was wondering why my cat was staring at me with this weird look on his face.
