I just finished the book and loved it. I found it totally addictive. I studied Victoria at school and love the era and the queen but now realise I still had a very school girl romantic, heroine notion of victoria and Albert. I am a little disappointed by Victoria to be honest as she was not the great feminist achiever that I thought she was but allowed herself to live wry much in her husbands shadow even though she held the power. I still admire her though, especially given the era and the numerous children!! As the breadwinner in my house I also feel the struggles of challenging the male female stereotype and natural roles even in this day and age. I thought the book was brilliantly written for those of us who live history but dot want to study it and it's inspired me to read on about the next generations. I also can see how not only did Victoria and Albert live in an age where life as we know it began to be established but I believe they also made the monarchy what it is today. I can now see lots of the current day issues such as the problems during the diana years with the queen being so private when Diana died etc stemming from the Victoria Albert years!
