Lesley wrote: "I wanted to get this book simply because I absolutely love the book cover"It is cute. The pics at the beginning of each chapter are pretty funny too.

I read this for book club and didn't think it was laugh out loud funny, but the members of my book club did. I think it is because I'm younger than the rest so I don't relate to the story as much. There were some sweet moments in the story though.

I read this last year and it was an eye-opener to say the least. I work in the medical field now and couldn't imagine what would happen if any of our docs did something like that. I have conflicting feelings about the family, tho. Never could decide if I could sympathize with them or if I didn't like them.

I felt that the family would have been a lot different had Henrietta raised them. There were so many awful things that happened to them - abuse, neglect, poverty, loss of their mom, loss of consent, invasion of privacy. I feel like you do though. I can sympathize and rationalize but it is hard to like them. I'm also in the medical field and so is my sister and she says she's worked a lot with HeLa cells.

Late reply but this is quite high on my TBR list - what did you think of it?

It's not a nailbiter but I found it interesting to read. :)

Loved it! It was long and detailed and at times really horrific but it was not boring at all.
Tiennie wrote:Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss & LoveHow was this one? It looks like one to have the tissue box at hand.

If you've ever been to Matt's blog - mattlogelin.com, you'll understand that huge amounts of tissue are necessary to get through the blog and the book. I loved both!

It was alright. Hated the way it ended. What did you think?
I read this one a little while ag..."The end was what made it blah for me, too. I read this after The Weight of Heaven: A Novel. That one also had an ending that doesn't follow the U.S. "happily ever after" paradigm.
