Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Lily of the Nile by Stephanie Dray was an amazing read. It is about Cleopatra's daughter after her mother takes her life and her and her brothers are taken to Rome and forced to live in Ceasar's home. The portrayal of the historical setting is obviously well researched and some of it is skewed a little bit to follow the character of Selene. I love the magic wrapped into this historical fiction novel, making it a bit mythological as well. I really suggest this novel for those who love historical fiction. It really was a beautiful debut novel and I can't wait to read the sequel - although I don't believe that will come out until next year.

Have any of you read this one yet?

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 74 comments I did. Well the draft. I need to head to Borders to get the paperback, then nudge her into a signature :P

I personally know the author. If you're interested, she loves talking to book groups/clubs.

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 74 comments The sequel's name has changed a few times. I forget what it is now. I BELIEVE Song of the Nile. Used to be Sorceress. You'll discover more about Juba in the next book.

I think she mentioned Fall 2011 but that may have changed, too.

Have you checked out her website? I love her blog since she updates it with some historical insights into that time period.

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Usako - how cool that you know her! I wish I taught middle school or high school some days because I'd totally take you up on that. :) Can't wait for the next one, so I will have to stalk her blog for more info.

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 74 comments I'm doubly excited for the success of her novel. If sales for the first and second book are well, then the publisher will pick up her third to end the trilogy. My fingers are triple-crossed in hopes this happens!

I'd have to check with her but I'm certain she'll join any online groups to do a Q&A if requested.
