Hmm I'd say they're fair reading through the first four novels. The 5th is fair to middlin but they turn for the worse after that point IMO.
Gaah! Is that the one where (view spoiler) Nothing pissed me off more than that ending. I was sooo tempted to toss that book! Good thing it was a HB and would have left a hole in the wall.
Speaking of swords, has anyone read The Sword of Knowledge? It's pretty good, I've read it several times. Only problem is that the last book (it's three books, one binding) screams for a sequel. Seriously screams - and everyone I know who's read it feels the same way.
Mrs. J, The spoiler you mentioned is from The Elfstones of Shannara. I loved that book. Out of the 15 or so books to the series, Elfstones and Wishsong are my favorites. It was a devastating ending and I was upset by it, but I understood it had to be that way, the greater good and all that.PS: How did you get it to do that view spoiler thing? That's awesome.
I hated that ending. I wasn't sad, I was pissed. I felt like if that was the answer, why have me go on that journey. (Sorry! I know you like it, don't hate me :)So here's how you do it < spoiler> spoiler> Take out the spaces.
At first I thought the same, but without the journey she'd never have made the sacrifice. It was the journey that changed her. We all have different tastes and opinions, all are valid.
That's so cool, thanks for the info. (view spoiler)
I just wanted to see if it worked! Thanks Mrs. J, you rock.
I read the Sword of Knowledge books and remember liking them, but yes, there's plenty of space for a sequel that never happened. I figure they didn't sell enough for the publisher to commission one — something that leads to many left-hanging series ends. They work well together despite Cherryh having a different co-writer for each one, too.

Yeah *bashful face* I'm a softie. You should see me when reading any emotional scene...total tearworks. It might be why I can't get into the gritty stuff - crying for too long gives me a headache. lol
