This week I've been working 12 hr days none stop, but I finally managed to finish Kleypas' Married by Morning. This is sweet escapist fiction. I really liked Leo who was funny, charming and wonderfully romantic. I loved the way he wooed Catherine. I liked Catherine too. She was very sympathetic.

message 52: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments I like Lisa Kleypas books. I like how she worked to show that Leo changed and Catherine was a sweet person.

Samantha | 867 comments I'm reading Beautiful Disaster by Laura Spinella

Omg is that the book with the weirdass cover with the tongue?

I'm reading Ice Queen by Joey W. Hill. It's hardcore BDSM, but with lots of romance. The only kind of these books I can read, and even so at least a year goes between each read! lol

By the way, Samantha, I noticed you were reading Lover Unleashed the other day. Are you finished? How was it? I dnf'ed it, but plan to pick it up again sometime in the distant future when I forgot how much JR Ward pisses me of at the moment. LOL

message 56: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments LOL! No, it is not that book, Davina. It has a green cover. I'm still trying to start Lover Unleashed. I really don't know about reading this one. I'm a glutton for punishment with Ward. She has fallen so bad but I keep reading this train wreck of series.

I know the feeling. It's like crack. Even though I dropped the series after Rehv's book I still had to buy Unleashed just to read the parts with V & Jane! But I've made up my mind about Tor and No'one's book. Definitely not buying that one!

Samantha | 867 comments I keep starting Lover Unleashed but I'm not warming to it...maybe b/c I'm scared its going to be some bullshit!

Samantha | 867 comments Oh, Joey Hill is like a mix bag of candy for me. Some days I get a good flavor and some days I get a sour flavor. I've only read a few books in her Vampire series and it is hit or miss. I have all of the books in the series you are reading, Davina. People say that series is better. I do hope so.

The Nature of Desire series is highly recommended. I read the first two books, Holding the Cards and Natural Law and both were pretty good. Ice Queen is actually the first part of a two book combination. The second part being Mirror of my Soul. There's also Rough Canvas which is MM.

Ice Queen is very, very good so far. The interesting thing is that the couple hasn't had sex yet, but their encounters so far are so wonderfully romantic and erotic. I hope they won't return to the Club where other people are likely to become involved in their (sexual) relationship. It's just sooo good so far with only Marguerite and Tyler. I love the two of them together. Tyler is an amazing hero. I really love him. He's so romantic and he'd do anything to take care of Marguarite, who is pretty vulnerable and emotionally damaged.

message 64: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments That's reassuring, Davina. I got them so I can't wait to read them.

Her last book in her vampire series, Vampire Instinct, was very emotional and sweet.

Generally I'm not a fan of menage, so I've shied away from her Vampire series. Furthermore isn't that the series which also include mermaids? I don't really like mermaids.

message 66: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments I don't mind menages but permanent menages is a no-no for me. I don't comprehend them and after I read them, I normally feel weirded out.

No, her mermaid series is different. I read the mermaid book that I believe you were talking about. A Mermaid's Kiss. It was not a good book. I believe I gave it a 1 star rating. The H got on my nerves.

Polyamory(sp?) is a lifestyle that boggles my mind, but it works for many people so more power to them. One off menages don't weird me out, but I find it decidedly unromantic when I encounter it in a romance novel. I can't wrap my mind around why a guy would willingly share his woman with another man. I prefer when he's all territorial and wants all the heroine's candy for himself. Besides if the guys aren't into each other I imagine it'd be a bit hard to navigate...? Considering I've never had one, I'm just guessing here! LOL

Anyway, read the Nature of Desire series. I think you'll like it far better than the other Hill books you've read. The first book Holding the Cards has a one off MMF scene (or was it just a one off MM scene? Can't remember) between the hero and a good friend of the heroine who is gay. Natural Law had no menage and so far Ice Queen hasn't had any, but I don't know if there's going to be one (or more) in the companion book, Mirror of my Soul. I really hope not because Tyler and Marguerite are wonderful enough just the two of them.

message 68: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments I want to read The Kid by Sapphire by Sapphire. She's the author of Push. I'm a bit scared to think of this book because Push was a bit much for me and I had read that when it first came out.

message 69: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments I did finish Beautiful Disaster and I had a love/hate thing with this book. I hated all of the characters. They act crazy and stupid at times. I guess the main character, Mia, ultimately made the right choice.

message 70: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Starting Hunger Games on audio. Let's see how this goes.

message 71: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments So I finished The Hunger Games which was actually good. The whole political/society thing didn't distract me. I bet it will in the 2nd or 3rd book.

These days I'm far too busy to read so I'm going to catch this one at the movies with my niece. She's a huge fan.

message 73: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Sorry. Hopefully the movie is as good as the book.

message 74: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore I really enjoyed Hunger Games too. I'm hoping the movie does the book justice.

message 75: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore I haven't started it yet, but I'm planning to read The Russian Concubine by Kate Furnivall this weekend. Or at least start to read it. The last 2 or 3 books I've read have been sci-fy romance. As much as I enjoy the genre, I don't want to get too much of a good thing.

message 76: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Is the movie going to be based on the whole series or is it that first book?

message 77: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore Samantha wrote: "Is the movie going to be based on the whole series or is it that first book?"

I think the movie is just going to be based on the first book; at least I hope so. I'd hate for the movie to feel rushed.

message 78: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Good point. There was a lot going on in the first book. I'm currently listening to the 2nd book. Catching the Fire. Hope it is as good as the first.

Samantha wrote: "Is the movie going to be based on the whole series or is it that first book?"

That always depends on how the first film does at the box office. If it does well they'll definitely pick up the rest of the series.

By the way are the books pnr or uf?

Samantha | 867 comments I'm starting Enough The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements, and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America--and What We Can Do About It by Juan Williams tonight. I know the author has received some flack for his opinions. I can't wait to see where I'm at on the topic.

Samantha | 867 comments I finished up Enough The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements, and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America--and What We Can Do About It by Juan Williams . I really enjoyed the book and I agreed with Mr. Williams's opinions. I happened to believe that it didn't just apply to blacks only but the younger generation as a whole.

It's good to know you enjoyed it. I did read Come on, People! On the Path from Victims to Victors by Bill Cosby , so I was curious about Enough as well.

Samantha | 867 comments Did you like that book, Michelle?

message 85: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Michelle, they have a pane discussing some of the same issues at the Circle of Sisters. Normally my mother gets tickets and I hope to attend to hear what they say. Very interesting.

message 86: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore Samantha wrote: "Did you like that book, Michelle?"

I did. I've always been interested in race relations and such, so I enjoyed reading Bill Cosby's point of view on issues regarding black americans. Like you, I found that some of the issues he discussed could apply to all people though.

message 89: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Ok so I got my reading mojo back at the end of 2011 and I've been in heaven :)

I finished up the Hunger Games trilogy and I can't wait for the movie to come out this year.

I read The Bronze Horseman (Tatiana and Alexander, #1) by Paullina Simons and loved it. I loved, loved, loved it. I'm currently reading the 2nd book in the series.

I read Master of Crows by Grace Draven and The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley which was great.

I also read Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay and the book is so much better than the movie. I didn't like the main character Julia as much but it still as an emotional book.

I can't think of any other books that stayed in my mind but if I do, I'll post.

Wow, Samantha, I don't think I've ever heard you love any book in a loooong time! Adding that Paulina Simons book to the mountain right away.

I'm in Amsterdam, The Netherlands for a few weeks (work) and I just bought Susan Johnson's Seductive as Flame in the American Book Store here. Really impressed by their romance collection. It's huge. Perhaps one of the largest I've come across in Europe.

message 91: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Haha! Yeah it was excellent. The 2nd wasn't as good but still interesting. I've had a lot of stuff happen in real life so I haven't been reading or doing much of anything but I got the 3rd book which I plan to start this weekend. I'm hoping it will bring me back to reading.

Davina D. | 693 comments Mod
Oh, I didn't realize the Paullina Simons book was The Bronze Horseman. I think I already have it on the mountain.

I know the feeling. I read a dismal 10-15 books in 2011. I can't believe it. I have so many books I don't know what to do with them, and yet I read so little. Work has literally taken over my life, my younger son has become a full-blown pot head and I'm so afraid he's going to heel to peer pressure and start doing harder drugs ... he's been a great source of contention in our family for the last half a year. With all that, there's been no peace of mind to read! Arghhh!

message 93: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Don't worry about not reading. Keep your books, they will come in handy when you really need to escape the pressure of real life. Trust me! I can imagine it would be hard to focus on reading when you are constantly working and worrying whether or not your child could potentially spiral out of control. Stay positive and take time out to enjoy yourself.

message 94: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments I know I haven't had the time to go to the movies or watch that much tv. But I am trying to stay up on my reading. Is anyone reading anything great?

Just finished

Infected: A Noveland ContagiousMedical thriller and Sci-Fi I thought they were great a third on the way.

message 96: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Is this horror? I can't really read too much horror for some strange reason. Weird! I can watch it. I guess it's more entertaining for me and I'm not a sci-fi kind of gal :)
