That's ok. You would think they would have done this ages ago.

message 602: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments Leslie, that would be great! Do you get much battery life out of the nook? I didn't know you could get an SD card with Android OS preloaded, sounds so nifty!
As for AZW files, I've actually just done this from the instructions on the Apprentice Alf blog. Read the Feb '10 post. I only do this when I know I'm going to want to read on my phone as I don't like the Kindle for Android app my phone had, so I convert to epub and use Aldiko. I can only do this for new files, not pre-existing (before Apprentice Alf changes) calibre titles, but it works for me.

message 603: by Elishia (new)

Elishia | 2620 comments I tried that but id din't work :-(

message 604: by Lina (last edited Jun 30, 2012 05:48AM) (new)

Lina | 5563 comments It has to be a completely new file Elishia. So if it was a pre-existing calibre title you tried to convert it wouldn't work. You would have to delete it from calibre and then add it again. Then it should work. If you've done that and it still didn't work, I have no idea, but maybe try leaving a comment for him?

message 605: by Elishia (new)

Elishia | 2620 comments Yes that's what I was doing. I don't have a clue why it wasn't working.

message 606: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments :-( then I have no idea Elishia, sorry

message 607: by Elishia (new)

Elishia | 2620 comments Thats ok i'll give it a try again later.

You can actually purchase one off the Amazon website - and there should be instructions on what to do. My husband did it for me. You leave the SD card in and you can switch back and forth and it doesn't void your warranty as your Nook is still stock. As to battery, I get okay battery life out of it, but nothing like a nook simple touch. I use my nook constantly all day long and I probably go about 8 hours.
I also have Aldiko app on the android side and I use dropbox as well. Whatever I need to do to get books on my ereader!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 845 comments I've read the Barbara Samuel one and it is very good. I have several others by her and really like her writing. She also writes medieval stories that I like alot. She has a different quality to her writing and tackles really interesting issues.

Sometimes they download to a temporary folder - mozilla firefox does this when I download epub files. It took me awhile to find them.

message 625: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments Josephine, the other option is you can read them on calibre's reader once they're converted.

Are you using the latest version of the plugins? Can you view the AZW files using Calibre's internal viewer? If you can't then you won't be able to convert either.

I have not updated the plug-Ins, actually. Calibre does not make my laptop happy and I have not done any updates recently. I may try and see if that helps. Thanks!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 845 comments Thanks for the Marsha Canham one. I just picked up 2 others over at a sale at Smashwords. My goal is to own everything by her. I love her writing and I appreciate what she is trying to do for ebooks.

Rachel the Book Harlot Thank you, Jenny!

message 631: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Oh, she's good, Jenny! I hope you like her. She isn't a fast read, though. Lots of detail. Writes great action-adventure scenes.

What is she trying to do for ebooks?

message 633: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 845 comments She has a blog and has written several pieces talking about how publishers are trying to keep an author's backlist from the author and about the what they pay authors. She has control of all her stuff and is releasing it as ebooks under her own name now which is what other writers need to do. Very interesting stuff. She is a very interesting woman.

message 634: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Yes, it took her quite awhile to get control of all her past writing/books. So neat that she offers them for free every now and then.

message 635: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments What an admirable woman! And such a pity the way that some publishers can treat the creators of the works they peddle.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 845 comments The Sky Purrington books are only free to Prime members. So sad. They looked interesting. But some of the others looked interesting. Thanks, Jenny!

message 640: by Elishia (new)

Elishia | 2620 comments Can you download off the UK one? Because they're free on there.

message 641: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Nope.

message 642: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 845 comments You are so right! Thanks for pointing that out. I was totally distracted by that big prime word. I've been burned by that before! Has anyone read these? Are they any good?

message 643: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Not me, Leslie, but I've been looking at them.

I just picked these up as kindle freebies too!!!

message 645: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 845 comments Thanks for this one. I always need a sci-fi romance for some challenge! And I've contemplated doing the prime membership, but I have a kindle app and not a kindle, so it doesn't work for me. Oh well.
