Book issue that I can't fix

Hi Librarians -

I've started to do a few book fixes myself. (Yes, I'm very proud.) I just came across one that I couldn't fix. This book just linked itself to my author profile and it isn't one that I've written. I read the Librarian manual to figure out what to do, but I can't seem to fix the problem.

I wanted to

1. delete "Ann Douglas" (my name)
2. insert "Ann^^^Douglas" (to create another Ann Douglas).

When I tried to delete my name, I kept getting a message that said "ERROR, TRY AGAIN."

Can anyone else help and/or explain what I was doing incorrectly?

I just noticed that some of my books went AWOL overnight. (They've been separated from my author profile.) I'm going to try to figure out how to fix that problem.

Ann, to change author name on a book like that, just add spaces. You cannot delete a primary author, just replace them.

So I would simply edit the existing name and then save it again?

Edit the book, not the author. But yes.

I just tried, but I can't seem to get at the data to edit it. Could you take a peek to try to figure out I'm doing wrong? I end up clicking through to the author page. I don't seem to be able to open up the data to edit it.

Ah, sorry. Secondary authors are different. For those you have to delete the one you want to change, and re-add it with the extra space(s).

I'm not able to delete the author, so I've reported the problem to support. I think there's some sort of technical glitch here.

I already fixed the book.

And I didn't mean delete the author! I meant delete the author from the book. There's a small X next to each secondary author on a book's edit page.

In general, this group is a better place for issues editing books than emailing support.

Sorry Ann, I can't help your problem of deleting the author name from your book as I've ever found the same problem you had.

Rivka: I'm grateful you were able to fix the problem for me. For whatever reason, I couldn't get the secondary author to delete. I had to write to support about another issue (ads appearing as gibberish) so I simply tacked this issue on. I've been coming to this group with all my book issues and people have been great.

I have figured out why you couldn't -- you have limited librarian powers, only over your own books. Librarians here can help with such issues, though. :)
