Valerie (ladyval) I keep looking at the screen thinking it has to be wrong. A major part of why I bought a Nook over other ereaders is the ablility to download library books to it.

But, looking at the ebook section of my library's collection, which is through Overdrive, the Adobe PDF ebooks indicate that they are not compatible with the Nook. Is this true?

Lori {Romancing the Dark Side} (romancingthedarkside) I've never borrowed ebooks from the library but know that you can convert adobe files into epub which is the main format the nook uses, using the program Calibre. Some pdf books can be read on the Nook, although sometimes the page breaks are a little weird. I would try to convert these if possible. How do you get the ebooks, are they emailed to you?

The books download into Adobe Digital Editions and then you sideload onto the Nook. I'll look into Calibre as an option. Thank you for the suggestion.

I think that must be a weird phrasing or misunderstanding. Adobe PDFs from Overdrive should certainly be compatible with your Nook and you can load them using ADE without needing to use Calibre (although Calibre will also work.) I have borrowed them a number of times for my Nook. You generally won't be able to convert them to epub because of the DRM.

Valton Morgan | 1 comments Lori, hopefully my information is still helpful to you, but I do use Overdrive with my public library in Texas for my Nook. While I haven't tried side loading any of the Adobe PDF ebook formats, I have had no trouble with the EPUB ebook formats. as Valerie stated once you have Adobe Digital Editions application installed on your computer it should be as easy as hitting the download button from your libraries Overdrive site once you have found a title. Hope that helps...LOVE THE NOOK!!!

adaynasmile I use books from Overdrive all the time. All you have to do is use the Adobe Digital Editions. Its pretty simple. And it is a great way to borrow books!

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 340 comments The PDF versions from Overdrive are definitely compatible with the Nook. I personally have downloaded books from the library for my Nook in the Adobe PDF format. I think there may be a problem with that your Nook may not be authorized with Adobe Digital Edition. I had that problem with mine at first and now it works fine. I had to delete something from my Nook and replug it back into my computer.

Can you tell us exactly what it says that makes you think it won't work?

There is a link that takes you to a page on the Overdrive website that shows which formats are compatible with which devices. The Nooks all have icons indicating that they are compatible with the epub books, but the pdf ebooks are ghosted out and when you hover over the icon, the pop up says it's not compatible. I'll have to post a link to the page when I have my computer on.

Hmmm, very strange. My experience has entirely been the other way, that it will show compatibility with a device, but you have to sacrifice a goat or something to actually make it work. ;-) The only thing I can think of is that it's either an error or some kind of permissions issue.

Scott | 292 comments PDF books are compatible with the Nook and the ones from the library are also. I recently read The Graveyard Book, which I borrowed from the library using Overdrive. You do it the same way you would with epub books.

Valerie (ladyval) Ok, something must be wrong with my browser at home. When I pull up the link from my work PC, the icon is in full color instead of ghosted out like what I was seeing at home. I didn't want to tie up a book that I couldn't read on my Nook, so I didn't try it.

Thank you, everyone, for the responses! I won't hesitate now try to download them.

Michelle (squirrelflight77) | 15 comments ugh.. can someone please help me!! I have checked out a book.. I have in the adobe software thing.. when I plug in the nookcolor everthing there shows in the adobe reader but I cannot see anyway to transfer the book I checked out on to the reader. Am I missing something?? I've looked at settings but dont see anything and there are not buttons or options to move the book to the device. Help please!!

Kimberly | 3 comments If you are using Adobe ADE for your checked out books, then its drop and drag, much like itunes. Then on your device it will be located under "my documents" and not in the library.

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 340 comments Hold on Michelle I had that problem. For some reason it must not be asking you if you want to authorize the Nook and therefore is not showing the it on ADE. Let me find the thread or the site where I found how to fix it and I will let you know.

So what I did was delete the file and then unplug my Nook and plugged it back in and started ADE all of a sudden it recognized it on the computer and asked if I wanted to authorize it."

***This is what I wrote on the other thread...here is the forum page.

Authorize My Nook
