he's a holocaust survivior. he was like 14/16 i forget when it happened. He wrote the book Night, i most have read it a dozen times but i've cried every single time. it's really deep and observant and powerful. yet also simple, from the way he sees it, so sad.
here's an excerpt, from right after he arrives at the camp-
"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times sealed.
Never shall I forget that smoke.
Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky.
Never shall I forget those flames that consumed my faith forever.
Never shall I forget the nocturnal silence that deprived me for all eternity the desire to live.
Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes.
Never shall I forget those things, even were I condemned to live as long as God Himself.
Never."
See what I mean?

u should. it's really sad, he's young and totally devoted to God, and then when this happens he all but loses his faith.
A young boy and two older people are hung for trying to escape or something, and are hung. All the prisoners have to march by them, and the boy is still alive, and moving.
"Behind me, I heard the same man asking:
'For God's sake, where is God?'
And from within me, I heard a voice answer"
'Where He is? This is where- hanging from this gallows...'
That night, the soup tasted of corpses."
