❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Thanks Marisa - that's good to know. I'm not all that interested in counting re-reads - I think that defeats the purpose of the challenge, but I was curious. :)

WHOOOHOOO! I have officially reached the midpoint of my goal, 50 books of 100. And, according to the meter, I am still four books ahead, even with some of the weightier books read recently that took longer to read.

Way to go! I've read 100 of the 180 I put on my challenge.

Thanks, Melodie. Sounds like you are doing well, too!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) You guys just reminded me to look and see where I'm at. I'm at 96 of my 100 goal. At this rate I'll hit my goal in another week, so I think I'll increase it to 200 and see how the second half of my year goes. This is the first year I've ever kept track of how much I read and it's been an eye opener! :)

Wow, and people wonder where I've found the time to read 50! Way to go, Jennifer! I hope you meet your increased goal.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Thanks Heather!

message 108: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (tribalcat) | 307 comments I just signed up for the challenge. I set a goal of 60 books, but I guess I counted all of the books that I've already read since I joined Goodreads, so I'm already 40% done. I might have to adjust the challenge later.

Wow, guess we haven't checked in here in a while. Belated welcome to the challegne, Naomi!

I am now at 65 towards my goal of 100. A week ago Monday I was five books ahead of my goal. Then I spent a bit over a week on Dracula and it killed my lead. Now I'm merely "on target." Looks like I have some lost ground to make up over the next couple weeks!

How's everyone else doing with their goal?

Marisa (moretta) | 4153 comments Mod
Well, I'm around 75% of my challenge, so I think I goes well. I'm not going to modify it, I believe, because it's enough as it is (200).

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I increased mine to 200 after meeting the first goal of 100 in July. Then I promptly got sick, then went on 3 weeks holiday and now I'm 8 books behind! lol... nothing like a little bit of pressure! :D

message 112: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I'm at 129 of 185, putting me 12 books ahead right now. I've got 2 that I should finish this weekend, so I should be at 131 by Monday!

message 113: by Donna (new)

Donna | 27 comments I've read 89 of 100. Just 11 more to go, then I can "relax" and tackle the huge pile of manga that is taking over my room.

message 114: by Mary (Biblophile) (new)

Mary (Biblophile) | 4611 comments I just checked mine and I'm at 217 out of 285, about 12% ahead of schedule. Someday I hope to read a book a day.

message 115: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments I'm 76 of my current goal of 85 but when I get within 5 books of goal I just increase my goal by 10. Trying not to put pressure on myself by just putting in goal: 104! LOL

message 116: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I had originally set my goal for 150 but a couple of weeks ago I was 7 books ahead and noticed that I had read 182 last year so I upped my challenge to 183. Now I am 15 books behind:( So we'll see if I'm able to do it. I'm going on a long vacation in November so I'm hoping to make up some time then.

message 117: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27540 comments Mod
Good luck meeting your revised goal, Leslie!

I am currently 72/100, five books (4%) ahead of my goal. I was a bit worried after reading Dracula and Dracula in Love, as they wiped out the five book lead I had before starting them, but have (somehow!) quickly made up the deficit. Now I'm trying to get a few books further ahead before starting Sense and Sensibility, one of the September group reads for TNBBC. I have a feeling that one may take a week. ;)

message 118: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin C (caitkom) | 199 comments Arg! I keep slipping further behind. I have read 40/80, but it has me 14 books behind (18%), aaaaaarggggg.

message 119: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27540 comments Mod
Come on, Caitlin, you can do it. Still plenty of time to catch up! : )

message 121: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments I'm at 143 out of 175. WOW!

message 122: by Nell (new)

Nell | 1225 comments Right now I am 10 books ahead thanks to the MC Beaton mystery spree I went on in early summer. Those were quick reads. I'm reading a chunky book later this month, Cutting for Stone, so I will use up some of that cushion. I've decided to leave my goal where it is.

message 123: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27540 comments Mod
Time for a check-in! Only two months to go, so how is everyone doing in meeting their goal for the year? Who's ahead, and who needs some cheering on?

I just finished book 94 of 100, which puts me well ahead of my goal. At the rate I'm going, I should easily hit 110 by end of the year. Awesome!

message 124: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4153 comments Mod
I finished it (200), and I'm increased it to 230, but it said I'm still ahead of my goal.

message 125: by Nell (new)

Nell | 1225 comments I met my goal earlier this month and am now at 101%. I'm not planning to increase it. I like having an area of my life where I'm exceeding expectations.

message 126: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27540 comments Mod
Wow, good job everyone!

And Nell--LOL at liking an area where you are exceeding expectations. Know how that feels, lol.

message 127: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I'm at a 168 toward my goal of 185, which puts me 14 books ahead right now! I read 18 books in October, so should make my goal with no problem!

message 128: by Karen M (last edited Nov 02, 2011 01:19PM) (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments I'm at 99 out of 102 and I've got 3 I'm reading right now.

Correction 99 out of 104!!

message 129: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments I'm at 162 out of 175, but I don't plan on increasing it again.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I increased mine from 100 to 200 in July and I'm on track for finishing on time.

message 131: by Linda (new)

Linda (rudylkr) | 8980 comments I'm at 97 out of 110, so I'm currently 5% ahead!

I am in awe of anyone who is able to read 150 or more books in one year. I wish I could read that fast (and had the time to do so, LOL)!

message 133: by Kim (new)

Kim (catmommie) I started reading four books over the summer that I just couldn't finish, so that set me back. But since I read at least 50 pages, should those count as being read? I'm thinking no, so I didn't mark them read in 2011. I'm sure a lot of people cheat at this. One person "read" 175 within the first couple of months - I wonder if they just added books that they read in the past so it would count?

message 134: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4153 comments Mod
I don't know. I don't even count when I read part of an anthology (it has happened several times).

message 135: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Kim wrote: "I started reading four books over the summer that I just couldn't finish, so that set me back. But since I read at least 50 pages, should those count as being read? I'm thinking no, so I didn't ..."

I think this could be so. I've seen people with 500 books or so. Unless you had absolutely NO life, meaning no job, family or ANYTHING and did nothing but read 24/7 maybe. I know one gal counts books she didn't finish. If you didn't read them, then they don't count....period!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I agree with Melodie - I only count ones I've finished, which accounts a bit for my not being further ahead. I also don't count books I re-read.

message 137: by Kim (new)

Kim (catmommie) I created a couldn't finish shelf to ease my mind. I don't like to delete books from my list, especially if I gave them a fair chance.

message 138: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27540 comments Mod
I only count books I've finished. I also count rereads--primarily because it's been a decade or longer since reading the few books I've reread this year. While I remembered a good deal of each one, there was a lot I didn't recall as well.

"Congrats! You have completed your goal of reading 100 books for the 2011 Reading Challenge!"

8-D

Anyone else meet their goal yet?

message 140: by Sue (new)

I just checked and I've reached mine, too.

message 142: by Melodie (new)

Go Linda and Melodie!

It's quite a feeling of accomplishment, isn't it?

Congrats, Heather and Sue!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Way to go Heather and Sue! :)

message 146: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) According to the GR counter, I'm over my goal. My personal count is short some 17 books so I'll keep going although I'm not so good at counting (much better at reading!) so chances are GR is right.

Still, I'm going to keep reading anyway, so might as well keep count. :)

message 147: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27540 comments Mod
Congrats Ellie and Carol!

message 148: by Shay (new)

Shay | 408 comments I just made my GR goal of 400 books yesterday. I think I met most of my other requirements- 20% had to be "chunky" books over 500 pages long, minimum amount of non-fiction, etc.

message 149: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (tribalcat) | 307 comments This morning I met my goal of 150 books this year *YAY* and am already started on book 151 :)

Holy cow, Shay, you read 400 books this year??? I'm in awe :D

message 150: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27540 comments Mod
Shay: 400 books? How do you read more than a book a day??

Congrats, Naomi!
