My goal is 150 and I have 20 finished. I intend on finishing another 3 before the month is over.

I count my novellas, and if you don't put a date read then the page count for the year is off. I read something like 480 books last year, incl novellas, but I did over 89,000 pages. The majority of my reads were full length books but I don't see a need to discriminate between lengths of books, you were still reading. Most Mills & Boon type books (Blaze/Temptation etc) were/still are around the 189/215 page length, so are some of my novellas.
By the way just about to start book #40 for this month.
Good luck to everyone and their goals.
Jane (PS) wrote: "Where's the page count counter Sandra??"Go to your Profile Page, under the list of shelves, you'll see cloud/stats/more - click on stats and it will take you to your book count for your entire life and you can switch between books & pages. Very interesting stuff for us stats nerds!!
All the stats are based on the read dates of your books, so if you haven't put them in, they don't count.
ETA: I forgot to say that the read count doesn't include re-reads unless you put them in as the new date.
No. But this year I'm putting the 1st read date in the private notes field and using the date read field for the latest read.
Right. Hmmm - might do that when I reread some of my series that I love but could start all over again eg KMM Highlanders, NS Psy and CF Carpathians etc.
I'm at 16 and going for over 200 so I'm right on track! I should be able to get a few more read this weekend as well.
I'm going for 180 and I've only read 13 (no e-books, audio-books or novellas included!)... so I think I need to pick up the pace somewhat LOL!
Sandra, that's such a good idea with putting the original read date in the private notes - I reread before Shadowfever this year & wanted to keep track! Thanks for passing that along. :)
Well, I just finished off book 37. So I'm where I should be, even with taking 2 days "off" while being sick. I'm one of those people that, when they get sick, they kind of hybernate. So for 2 days, all I did was either sleep or lay on the sofa/bed about half asleep. And answering the question about our lives. . . I have a life--its called READING. (giggling) I was reading a short story once, I think it was one of the Chicks in Chainmail series, and they had a geeky kid with running around with a badge that said "I have a life--its (name of the tv show that main character starred in, but was a play on Xena, Warrior Princess)" I've loved that badge, and have seriously thought about having one made for myself, only have it say the bit about reading--or maybe books--or maybe even Goodreads. :oP
But on a more serious note--I spend a couple hours a day at a nursing home sitting with my Mum, and since she's been sleeping a lot, I sit and read so that when she IS awake, I'm still there and we can talk a bit. She had been really medicated up, trying to get her over some major health problems, but the dr had now started weaning her off some of the meds, so I'm hoping she'll be awake and aware more.
Plus, I have some other health issues, which means that there are days when, except for dragging myself over to see my Mum (usually forcing my hubby to drive me) I do nothing BUT read, because I don't have the energy or ability to do more than that. I live with constant pain, and, well, winters are really BAD for me, because of the pain. So I tend to read a whole lot in bad weather.
Plus, my only child is grown and has kids of her own, my hubby has just retired (Aug. 1, was when he retired) and I don't work. And I'm not a real big fan of 95% of the programs on TV. I DO quilt, crochet, knit and tat, so those take some of my time too. But some of them (the non-quilting ones) I can read while I do.
Sandra wrote: "No. But this year I'm putting the 1st read date in the private notes field and using the date read field for the latest read."That's basically what I do... the only problem being it means your stats for previous years will change. For eg. since I re-read most of Amanda Quicks' books every year, my 2010, 2009 stats change when I change the date. Which is a bit of a bummer cos I like to compare how I do reading wise year to year. >end waffle< ;)
BUT - if you consistently reread the same books, you'll know you are always out by those books/pages except for in the current year, and make the appropriate adjustment! (Too much effort to my mind :))
Jane, you are right. Far to much effort... I'll just plod along like I always do and have a rough guestimate.:)
For one of my groups last year some of us added up all our books. So really all I had to do was add up the re-reads and add them to the GR total and I was surprised that it was over 120 books re-read.@ You're welcome Allison
I set my goal as 200 books in 2011. I actually think that number is going to be low since 2011 will be my first full year of retirement and therefore more time for my reading.
If there's any way I could add books to my 2011 challenge list, and as I'm not tech savvy, please drop a line. Also support my quest in reading. Thanks!
Edward, I've noticed that books get added to the challenge list only if you check the date finished when you do the finish/review edit when you are done with the book. That is clear as mud, but I hope it helps.
I put 200 for my goal. Reading is my escape while m kids sleep lol, read over 30 books so far this year, i should make it :)
ok, so I swear I actually do do more than reading - you just can't always tell from my list...I started the year with 6 books in progress, so they are on my January finished list and finished up 6 audiobooks, but my total for the month was 55...I also decided if a book was less than 120 pages that I was going to add a book to my overall goal, so my goal is now 355 and will be 358 soon (I have 3 challenge books for another group that are all under 100 pages)
i suck at updating but i pretty much finished all the books on my to read book list last year. my goals this year esp since im due with baby in july is simply put this: finish all the series ive started, try authors that are like or similar to the ones i love, try authors ive never read before, and and my total book goal for this year is 250!
Rae have you checked out http://www.literature-map.com/ ? It is great for finding authors that write in similar styles from your favorite authors. I found out about this great website during the seasonal reading challenge here on goodreads. You put in your favorite author and it kicks out a cloud with your author in the center. The closer an author is to the center the closer their style to your author.
It is a great site isn't it Annabell? I discovered several new authors using it. Of course that doesn't help my tbr list much.
I agree with Annabell! Thanks Sheila. I'm not ready for more authors at the moment but I've saved the link for future reference... :)
I put 30 books as my goal. I'm sure I will surpass that, but with two small children you just never know! LOL! Good Luck Everyone!
I've never actually tracked this before so I have no idea how many books I'll actually be able to accomplish. At this point I'm aiming for 100, but I feel like I will easily surpass that goal given that I've already read 20. But who knows what the rest of the year will bring.Good Luck Everyone!
I set my goal for 100. Already have read 15. I really had no way of knowing what to set my goal at since I have never kept track before, but hopefully it's close! I been a member of Good Reads for ahile but i have just recently started using all the amazing features. It makes it so much fun! But the problem is now I'm so busy with the discussions, and challenges that I forget to read!!!LOL
Yes i have that problem too!I literally have to tell myself to get off the laptop! I am currently at 22 and i have no doubt that i'll reach my goal of 100 this year. The challenges see to that!lol!
I set my goal at 200. It's mid February and I'm already at 46. If I subtract the novellas that still puts me at 39 or 40 and I have about 8 books to complete for challenges this month. I think I might take a break in March because I will probably be done by June or July.
I have never tracked mine. I started it at 50 and increased it. I think I will increase it again to 100. Wish me luck.
I've increased mine twice since starting. I'm now at a goal of 200 but I think that isn't even enough. You will do it easily Shannon
Sheila wrote: "I've increased mine twice since starting. I'm now at a goal of 200 but I think that isn't even enough. You will do it easily Shannon"Thanks Sheila. I hope so. The challenges here are bound to make it easier.
I set my target at 60 - as I read 54 last year. It's going to be a challenge though as I'm waiting to move house (and it needs some work). Currently I'm at 10.
I set my target for 150. I'm 24 books into it already. This is the first time I've done a challenge, so at the rate I'm going I may have to extend my number.Update April 17, 2011: I increased my target to 200, and the widget thingie says I'm 17 books behind. :( I think I'm doing pretty good @ 43 books so far.
When I started a new job 3 years ago I began listening to audio books during the long commute. I listen to head phones at work whenever able and listen at home while cooking and cleaning. I put in a good 6 or 7 hours a day and go through about3 or 4 books each week depending on length. So...that puts me at 150-200 books a year which looks like a common goal for most of you. My question is HOW??? As much as i love to read, I cant imagine being able to invest the amount of time it would take to sit down and read so many books! Im wondering if the pace of an audio book is much slower than the pace of reading to ones self? Are you all reading or are some of you listening as well? Or, maybe im just a slow reader. Either way Im terribly curious (and impressed)...How do you all do it?
Renne,My favorite way to "read" a book is to have the audiobook on my iPod and to also have the Large Print Book (I have low vision). I find I can actually read a lot faster than the narration, but when my eyes get fatigued it is great to be able to listen. I think 200 books is very doable. I've already read something like 40 books. Getting involved in some of the challenges here really helps. You can easily read 10 a month by doing just the monthly challenges.
Renne,For myself I read on an Ereader. The lack of page numbers actually drives me to read more. It instead gives you percentage read. Also lately I have been finding some really interesting books that I just cant put down. So, 200 should be a breeze.
I think I set my target too low as well. I set it at 100 because I went back to work full time. But so far I've managed 25 books this year. Although I am hoping to get back into dating soon and I just joined a gym. So that will (hopefully) cut into my numbers as well. I read a lot this past week because my daughter was at my mother's house. It's only 5m away but there was no school this week. So she spent the week with her Opa instead of being home alone all day (she's 13). It freed up a lot of evening time for me and I read a lot.
Im going to give 200 a try. Reading the same book on audio and in print is a good idea! I usually have 2 different books going but I think Ill try it. Im not sure I understand "percentage read". I am working my way through Gabladons "Outlander" series. I really enjoy them but I feel like I should get credit for more than 1 book when I finish one! Maybe I should set a # of pages goal for this year instead of # of books :)
