About a third of the way through, loving this book so far. Ryman is a master storyteller who really understands setting and voice, as well as having a deep appreciation of how societies are shaped by technology.
I'm definitely in. I'll be re-starting this tonight, as I am fuzzy on the portion I previously read. I do recall that I loved the way Ryman initialized his world, building it with no real hint of anything sf in the works. It made me feel for the characters more, realizing how "uninitiated" they were with regards to the internet and modern technology, let alone the sf things the book's synopsis promises to throw at them down the road.
I read this several years ago. Very interested to hear what the rest of you think of it; there was one plot point that gave me trouble suspending disbelief, but otherwise I quite enjoyed it.
I'm passing on this one. Too much good stuff burning to be read in my pile. And I read some reviews that disclosed the plot point and it sounds like that would definitely ruin it for me.
Have the book and am starting soon. First impressions: Nice attractive blue cover, a number of author blurbs including a couple I've read (Kim Stanley Robinson and Greg Bear), not much author info though on the back cover. I must admit I am a little worried that the book is almost 400 pages long with a fairly small font size.
Will be reading as soon as I get a copy.
Read this a couple of years ago so I'll be following the discussion. Don't know if I'll be able to contribute much though.
I'm glad "Air..." got to the BOTM stage, because it is a Tiptree Award winner, and I wholeheartedly support that award for appreciation of gender issues in fantasy and science fiction. I always like it when we have winners or shortlisted books on our roster. However, I could not fit it in to my January reading, which I am terrifically sad about, and don't foresee doing so in the near future, as the really interesting February and March books roll our way. I sincerely am putting it on the "Planning to Read" list.
