That said - I'm just a few books past my goal for 2011. My goal now is to simply finish the two books that I've started this year and have yet to finish -

I still have quite a ways to go in

I've been thinking about a reading challenge for 2012. Don't want to add 12 more to my 85 read this year. Think I'm pretty much at capacity for reading at an enjoyable pace. My reading challenge for 2012 will be to read 12 books recommended by Michael and 12 books recommended by Ann in the final segment of their weekly "Books on the Nightstand" book podcast. By the end of the year, they will each have contributed one dozen books to my "nightstand." Hmmm. This just might be too easy.

Have I got some great books lined up for you in 2012... So many things I've read and loved *this* year come out *next* year!

Now I can relax for the last two weeks of the year and think of a new challenge for 2012.

1. 12 classics-2 will be Dickens
2. 12 non-fictions-I tend to neglect this but will check out some of the stuff Ann and Michael have recommended in order to remedy this.
3. 12 books that have been sitting on my shelf longest. This will probably intertwine with the two previously mentioned.
I would also like to read 12 500pg+ books this year but I'm a bit nervous that I'm biting off way more than I can chew.
Love to hear other ideas for what people are planning other than pure number of books. This group has definitely helped me tap back into making reading a priority in my life.

I'm going to aim high next year: 12 x12 = 144
I would like to tackle the oldest 12 titles on my TBR list, 12 Classics and, 12 titles from BOTNS authors. I would also like to get up to the 12th title in The Dresden Files series (audio), the Fables series (gn) and the Walking Dead series (gn)

I too plan to tackle my oldest 12 in my tbr list. Then I also will do the 12 oldest books I have in my personal library waiting to be read. Oddly there is not much overlap. The are several classics in both those lists so I feel like I didn't want a seperate classics challenge. My third challenge is going to be one new release a month. This came from when I was trying you vote for books of the year here on Goodreads and I realized I hadn't read much from 2011.

Earlier this year I read a book by a British author called "Reading from Home." She spent a year just reading the books she already owned. I have such a backlog that I need to do that. However, I couldn't rule out all new books because Ann and Michael suggest so many alluring ones. So I decided my goal for 2012 is to read 3 old books (i.e. ones I already own) for every 1 new book.

I joined a TBR challenge for 2012. I committed to reading at least 12 titles from my stacks even though I literally have hundreds of titles clamoring for my attention! I am an unapologetic book hoarder; but even I am beginning to realize the hazard that my home office has become! I'm now pondering what to do with the books I *have* read. It's very difficult (but necessary) for me to decide what to let go.

I like this concept. I also have tons of books at home but am constantly intrigued by new ones. Perhaps if I quit listening to podcasts with more book ideas, it would be an easier task!

My to-read in 2012 list will include the 12 oldest titles on my TBR list, 6-10 Dickens, presidential biographies, and books written by the Retreat authors. It feels a little ambitious, but I'm hopeful.
I finished 73 books in 2010, including "War and Peace". That was sort of a personal best, and I knew I wouldn't be able to read 84 books in a one year time frame, so I didn't even try. In 2011 (so far) I've finished 39 books, and may get a few more in before the holidays, so my prediction was accurate.

I did complete the What's in a Name Challenge, which was a lot of fun and I may do that again.

I owe you all a correction and an apology. Earlier, I gave the subtitle instead of the main title to a book. The real title is: "Howards End is on the Landing: A year of reading from home" by Susan Hill.
Sorry for the confusion.
