Yes, I am a fan of Rohinton Mistry, though a fine balance was too sombre towards the end to my liking

Mansee | 2037 comments The Great Indian Novel - Shashi Tharoor - 4/5

Shashi Tharoor…U r a gem! The way you have taken “Mahabharatha Katha” (Thus the Great Indian Novel :P) as the premise and have woven in the Pre and Post Independence struggle makes it a brilliant read..though I am not much into reading mythology nor politics, I really enjoyed this one as it was written with a clever wit…my respect for Mr. Tharoor has definitely gone up…way up!

Mansee | 2037 comments Anurima - Rani Dharker- 3.5/5

I picked up this book only because I happened to attend the book reading session by the author- Rani Dharker..the book has a lovely old world charm to it. I would like to give it a 3.5 but unfortunately GR does not allow that and the book did not touch me so much to give it a 4 either.but def a notch above 3.

Somehow did not like the end twist..Now when I will travel to see Museums/ forts/ palaces, I will surely look at the portraits of royalty with more interest..- a good easy read!

even I have this book with me. But will have to wait sometime to start reading as I am flooded with backlogs

message 106: by Mansee (new)

Mansee | 2037 comments i know even I am but somehow since I attended the book reading, it was fresh in my mind and started immediately...I have a huge backlog at home and the problem is that i just keep on issuing books from my office library and thus only end up reading those...

Mansee | 2037 comments Battle For Bittora - Anuja Chauhan - 2/5

It was kind of ok...i liked her first novel "the zoya factor" much better...

The book is about this girl working in an animation studio who on request, rather order of her grandmother has to go to her village to help her win the upcoming polls...only to realise that she will have to contest it herself - that too against her childhood friend (they shared a past)

Its witty in parts but somehow did not like it so much....can be read if you can borrow from a library/ a friend- not "buy" worthy material!

Mansee | 2037 comments The Palace of Illusions - Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni - 4/5

Interesting to know about Mahabharata katha through the eyes of Paanchali...it has its flaws - yes...especially if you are one of those relegious fanatics who might not like to know about the humane elements of the great warriors...

I would have given a book a 3 but for its end...which brings out the results of a war in the most sensitive way...and thus urges us subtly to look over anger, over jealousy, over ego and look at things wholistically instead of looking at situations on a case to case basis...brings out the inevitability of death and touches upon "dharma" in the most subtle way..

Definitely a good read if you can read it with an open mind!

Four star from Mansee!!! Guess this itself a reason to give a try on this book.. :P.

But Im always vary of this book as it is showing the feminine view of Mahabharatha and Im not sure whether I'll like it or not..

message 123: by Mansee (new)

Mansee | 2037 comments ha ha..i wanted to give it 3.5 but GR does not allow that...and it definitely deserved more than a 3 thus 4!

It's nice to have a feminine perspective from time to time :P will help u in more ways then one!

Yeah, I agree that I need to know the feminine perspectives.. But I still have a couple of years for that I hope.. :P

Sherin Punnilath (shery_7) | 7330 comments Feminine perspective doesn't mean that it's chick-lit :p
It has enough blood n gore to keep you guys interested.

They had another favourite game (dice)and it led to the whole war thing :p

message 131: by Mansee (new)

Mansee | 2037 comments It was thier ego which did them in as far as the dice and war was concerned
If ego vanished from guys and vanity from females..the
world would be a nicer place!

Mansee | 2037 comments The Help - Kathryn Stockett- 3/5

Strong women...friendships...courage...ridicule of hypocrisy- this book is all that and more!

Loved the three main characters- Aibileen (motherly wise and relegious), Minny (courageous and sassy) and Skeeter (courageous and strong)..
