Michael (mikedecshop) Exactly. I am hoping the 2 week layover has quieted it down some.

I really want to see Source Code, but haven't found the mood for it yet. Good to know its good. That's one of the things I like about Vera, she picks good projects ... for the most part. Henry's Crime wasn't a particularly good pick, I'd say.

Samantha | 867 comments I'm watching "A Patch of Blue" with Sidney Poitier. It's a throwback interracial romance movie. I'm absolutely loving Shelley Winters and Sidney Poitier. I'm not impressed with the lead actress.

message 304: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments I don't know if I cared for the ending of that movie but I do know that it was realistic enough but I wanted an HEA. LOL. So after wards they revealed facts about the movie and it was interesting to know that Shelley Winters struggled with playing Roseann due to the fact that she was in support of the civil rights movement and Roseann was a racist. Despite the difficulties with the character's beliefs, I think Shelley Winters did a great job and to think...she won an Oscar for that role.

Michael (mikedecshop) The Four Lions
This was a hilarious movie about a group of bungling wannabe Jihadists. Skilfully done dark comedy One the group was a Pakistani double of John Tuturro.

HPDH2
A fitting ending for a great franchise. Every time I saw each movie I had really forgotten the books. The movies brought them back to mind so well.
My only criticism of this one was that I didn't feel the battle of Hogwarts was handled so well. So much time was spent following Harry, Hermoine and Ron around that the viewer did not get a good feel for the overall battle. Where as in the book , you get a much more in depth look at what the others were doing. This is just a tiny gripe because it was a very good movie.

message 306: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Mesrine: The Killer Instinct

A great French movie Pulp Fiction meets Bonnie and Clyde meets Scarface Meets Escape from Alcatraz.

A million times this! HP&TDH is probably my second favorite book of the entire series. Overall I think of all the movies made of the books, Deathly Hallows captured the essence of the book it was based on the best. But I was severely disappointed in the battle. Too much focus was on H, R & H. And while those three are central to the narrative, the great part of the battle in the books was how much everyone in the books had a stake, not just Harry. Also, the absolute best part of the books was the descriptions of everyone watching and listening in intent while Harry and Voldy have their final showdown. They saw it all happen. In the movie nobody did. Just didn't have the emotional impact the book did.

We saw Captain America very nicely done. Didn't have that gadgety over-done feel so many super hero movies do. I kinda reminded me of the first Toby Maguire Spiderman movie.

Also saw Super 8. Oh, man. Love! Awesome movie.

Michael (mikedecshop) A truly beautiful and moving French film called Of Gods And Men.

message 309: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments I have to look that one up, Michael.

message 310: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore I was recently caught up in the first two Godfather movies. They were on AMC last week. I also watched Goodfellas and The Untouchables. These movies were all showing during the gangster themed movie week.

message 311: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Great movies, Michelle.

message 312: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Last night watched:

Camp Hell Thought this was going to be the typical teenage slasher movie. I am waiting for a new cable modem to be delivered so I got this one out of desperation. It was anything but a slasher film. It takes place at a Catholic fundamentalist Covenant camp. Evil is present. Well worth a watch would like to see some thoughts.

Dawning
I am not sure what this one was all about. Their were some big holes and some stupid actions by the main characters that put me off. This could have been better.

message 313: by Ginette (new)

Ginette González (nakoma) | 6 comments Last week watched "Senki" or "Shadows" or "Entre los muertos" Director Milcho Manchevski. Enjoyed the photography and acting! Location: Macedonia. Never been there! The film (a ghost story) portrayed an impressive scenery though.

message 314: by Michelle (last edited Aug 16, 2011 07:37PM) (new)

Michelle Gilmore I just finished watching Insidious. In my opinion, it's one of the scarier horror movies that I've seen within the last 5 or 6 years.

message 315: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Watched

The Ward
John Carpenter's take on " I am unjustly locked in an insane asylum" genre.
IMO he handles it pretty well. The final wrap up caght me off guard but looking back there were some clues.
I am sure others will write that they saw it coming but it was satisfying for me.
The very final scene was unnecessary.

message 316: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) The Conspirator

Capably directed by Robert Redford.
The sets were beautifully done very authentic.
However just a so so courtroom drama. Predictable and frustrating.

message 317: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) We mentioned her a while back

Michael, I saw Camp Hell and thought it was pretty creepy. It took me a while to get through it because I didn't think the acting was all that good, but the creep factor was definitely way up there.

Haven't had much time to see movies lately, but finally got around to seeing Super 8. For me, it didn't live up to all the hype, but it was okay while it lasted.

message 319: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Davina, Camp Hell was pretty creepy.

How about the "sex" scene? That took me back to my early teens.

message 320: by Davina, The Modster (new)

Davina D. | 693 comments Mod
Hahaha ... I thought it was pretty authentic, more so than a lot of sex scenes you see on TV and the big screen.

message 321: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Ok so not to be the perv in the group but I saw "sex" and "camp" and instantly thought bad porn. Had to go back read Davina's post. LOL.

message 322: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Davina wrote: "Hahaha ... I thought it was pretty authentic, more so than a lot of sex scenes you see on TV and the big screen."

Agreed. I didn't think authentic until you mentioned it.
That was early teen sex waaayy back in my day.

message 323: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Samantha it is OK to be the perv in the group.

~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ (abbaschild7748) I'm in the middle of watching an old 90's flick that I never seen but knew about..
"Don Juan Demarco" with Johnny Depp (hawt) & Marlon Brando.. This moving is hilarious & weird but I'm not done with it yet. ;D

******* UPDATE*******9/4/2011
Alright finished the movie... Like I said weird, but refreshing, and funny.. And did I mention Mr. Depp was hawt? (view spoiler) LOL

message 325: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments So I finally watched Legacy with Idris Elba. The movie made my head hurt. I didn't know what was real and what wasn't. LOL. I also watched Secretariat. OMG, so freaking boring. I went to sleep with that last night. Then I saw Let Me In. It's suppose to be this horror flick about a young boy who ends up befriended this little girl next door but she is a vampire. It was creepy.

You should see the original swedish version Let the Right One In so superior to the US.

Michael (mikedecshop) Don't Be Afraid Of the Dark
I know Del Toro did not direct this but he lent it his name and it just wasn't up to the standards I have come to expect from him. The real star of this one was the house-architechturely beautiful and creepy at the same time.

In Her Skin
A very disturbing Aussie film based on a true story.

message 328: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments That's upsetting. I wanted to see Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

message 329: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) It is worth a look on DVD I wouldn't waste money in the theaters.

message 330: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) I liked Secretariat but then I am a horseplayer and I was privileged to see him run.

message 331: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Cool. It started off good enough but then it seemed to drag. I think it was too long.

message 332: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Shivers AKA They came From Within

Written and directed by David Cronenberg.

A 1970's movie where a parasite invades humans and turns them into sexual zombies. It's not Braiiiiins it's SeeeeeeXXX

What a hoot.

message 333: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments LOL.

message 334: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Black Death

Michael wrote: "I liked Secretariat but then I am a horseplayer and I was privileged to see him run."

I'm horse lover too, but never had any desire to see this. I sort of had a feeling it would be boring. Kinda like Seabiscuit was.

message 337: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments Yes...it was exactly boring like Seabiscuit. I guess I prefer riding horses than watching them. LOL.

message 338: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Seabiscuit Boring!

You are killing me ladies.

message 339: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) I Saw The Devil

Korean

This is the ultimate revenge movie. Very graphic and violent. Squeamish please avoid.

message 340: by Ginette (new)

Ginette González (nakoma) | 6 comments Last weekend I saw "Win Win" (directed by Thomas McCarthy) which I liked, and also saw a beautiful movie from Argentina "Un Cuento Chino" (Chinese Take-Away)starring Ricardo Darín (remember "Son of the Bride" 2001?

message 341: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Everything Must Go

first Will Farrell I really enjoyed.

message 342: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Wrecked Adrien Brody

An amalgam of Buried, 127 hours and Stuck. Oh and throw Memento in there.

it is a one man show
I had to FF through a lot of this.

message 343: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) BTW I seem to be the only person watching movies.

I guess you people have lives

message 344: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments LOL. I got my reading mojo back so my time is consumed with reading which makes me very happy. I've only been watching the tv series 24. I've never seen it and everyone had talked about it so while I got it, I'm watching a few episodes at a time. I love me some Jack.

message 345: by Davina, The Modster (new)

Davina D. | 693 comments Mod
I've never been interested to watch 24. Not much of a Kiefer Sutherland fan. My husband loves it though.

This weekend I managed to take a much needed pause from the rat race and I saw Thor. I was pretty underwhelmed by most of the special effects. I LOVED Kenneth Branaugh's colour and gender blind casting. Honestly, I think my honey Idris was the perfect choice for Heimdall, fanboys be damned! I thought the story was kinda flat. At the end I was like, that's it? I hate it when that happens. But I guess I'll tune in to the sequel. I'll watch anything Idris is in AND even though I'm not into blonds I loved me some man flesh a la Chris Hemsworth! :)

Also saw Madeas Big Happy Family. As usual TP's films are what they are. An escape. Not compelling moviemaking. I really thought the baby momma was hilarious! The way she dragged out that kid's name ... hahaha. It's a wonder Madea didn't back out her guns. Otherwise always lovely to see Loretta Devine, although I didn't really like her in this role. Not that she did poorly. I just prefer her in more feisty roles. Oh, and the weed smoking granny ... hehe

Things are finally slowing to an ebb at work so hopefully I'll be around a lot more! Sorry I've been MIA in the past weeks, but thanks to everyone, especially you Mike and Sam, for keeping the group up and running.

message 346: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 867 comments I liked titanic but it is not one of those movies that I can watch repeatedly.

message 347: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir Well I got sucked into watching the last three seasons on Fringe. It has jettisoned to the near top of my obsessions now. Good, mind-blowing, well plotted tv.

I also finally saw Bridesmaids. Not what I was expecting. Enjoyable because Kristin Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy are comedy gold. But I just wasn't expecting it to be so much about Wiig's descent into slacker-loserdom.

message 348: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Proud to say I have never seen Titanic.

message 349: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) The Perfect Host
Quirky, good tables turned movie.

I saw Bridesmaids. Pretty funny and more enjoyable than I expected it to be. Nice to see a mainstream movie featuring regular looking women (for the most part).
