What have you seen lately?

Anyway, I've seen the Roommate and it was horrible. Such a predictable movie with many cliches. You kind of saw the stuff ha..."
Yeah when I saw the previews for the "Tourist" I was like neh don't want 2 see it.
Oh really??? I've never heard of that one. I love Ryan Reynolds. He's fine. I'll have to check this out. Thx for the tip.

Yeah I never heard of this one either until I was browsing through my free on demand films.
I thought Depp's acting was horrible in the film. For many of these big name stars I do believe they don't feel like they have to make an effort anymore. They think anything with their names on it will sell, but I heard The Tourist didn't do all that well at the box office. The location was most definitely the star of the whole film.

Mike Epps was so funny. I just love him. He absolutely brought the comic relief to the film. Loretta Devine is absolutely amazing and boy did I see some of my mom in her. LOL. Tasha Smith is just straight up funny and great. Oh, Angela Bassett really shined. I love her!
After the film, my mother whispers to me that she enjoys T.D. Jakes films a bit better than Tyler Perry. She thought he hit core issues and added humor as well. I happen to agree.

My father's people are monied. I have cousins who went to deb balls, that side of the family goes to MV for the summer and have for years.
My mother's people are more solid, blue collar middle class. I grew up mostly around my mother's family because my parents divorced when I was about 8, but I still remember vividly the few times I'd vacation with my father on The Vineyard.
So I was intensely interested in this movie.
I actually loved Paula Patton, I thought she was really charming. Laz Alonzo was fine, fine, fine to look at but a little on the wooden side.
The supporting case really shone, though. Especially Loretta Divine who was excellent as the controlling, reverse-snob mother. And Angela Bassett who was fierce and classy and totally embodied the role of an a bourgeoisie with old, old money.
And Tasha Smith steals almost every movie she is in. It is nice to see she can tone down the stridency (which I am sure Tyler Perry encourages).
Beautiful cast, extra beautiful scenery and even thought the film was made for only 6 million dollars it looked like a much more expensive film.
Also, it did better in box office than Something Borrowed which is a major achievement since SB had bigger names, more money, more marketing and was based off a best-selling book.
eta: Oh I forgot about Mike Epps. I agree with Samantha he was awesome comic relief. Loved his character!

Laz Alonzo is fine!!! I couldn't take that away from him but he was stiff in his acting.
It was actually interesting in seeing the family dynamics play out with Angela Basset and the sister (I forget the actress's name).
Haha, you know Tyler Perry encourages that over the top stuff with Tasha Smith. OMG! Little Romeo actually grows up. LOL.
Oh, the scenery was beautiful and the film did look more expensive.
Mike Epps made me laugh. I loved when he told the sister that he wasn't a fool. He knew exactly what she was saying to him.

A road trip movie centered around 3 returning Iraq war vets.
The changes in their lives after being away and how they deal with it and themselves.

A beautiful animated film by the director of The Triplets of Belleville.
Funny, haunting, sad

But Hubby & I have been addicted to watching 48Hrs on ID & Disappeared these past few weeks. Man, looking at these real life cases some solved, some unsolved scares the crap out of me.. There are sick, twisted people in this world. **shudders**
I love those real life crime shows. They're very scary (I can't tell you how much careful I am about things I used to take for granted: riding the subway at night, walking home alone, not locking my car doors etc), but so educational. Even when my paranoia reaches its peak I can't stop watching because I'm looking for clues and trying to solve the crime along with the detectives. My favs are Snapped, Forensic Files and New Detectives (that's an old one). I also like the dateline specials.
And yes, Andy Garcia is HOT. Loved him in When A Man Loves A Woman!

So I haven't really caught up on all the films I have watched lately. I'll try to post some as I go along. I did see Red Riding Hood. Horrible!!!! I warn people not to waste their time with this one. First, the writing was poor. The acting was horrific. I don't even know why Gary Oldman even bothered with this film. He was the only talent in the whole film. If Hollywood is paying actresses to stand around doe-eyed like Amanda Seyfried, then I need to switch careers ASAP. I can do a doe eye poor acting imitation in a minute. I really don't like her as an actress. In all honesty, I don't know if I can just blame the actors because the dialogue was cheesy. The better to see you and yada was awkwardly thrown in there. The men were stilted. The whole film looked low budget. Not a good job.
Wow, would have never expected such a poor review for Red Riding Hood which is on my TBW list (I trust you so it has lost some its priority now that you've ripped into it). Not that I was expecting it to be mega good mind you, but looking low budget is not what I would have expected since it is not low budget at all (not big either, but decent). I've seen quite a few movies with Seyfried and I must agree with you that her acting style is horrid. I don't understand her appeal. I find her exceedingly unattractive and those doe eyes you mentioned are bit freaky. That said, if a script is bad, unfortunately there isn't really much the actors can do expect give it their best and if its really bad even their best won't save the show.

Yeah me too!
Snapped is a fave of mine as well. Forensic files started it all for me though. And I loved that movie too "When a man loves a Woman" But I wanted to smack Meg Ryan so many times in that movie.

My mom said a friend of hers saw it cuz her daughter & one of her friends wanted to watch it. My mom said her friend was like "how the hell can you mess up little red riding hood?"
I want to reserve judgment until I see it for myself, but if what you guys say is right I'm truly mystified by how these films get the financing to go into production.

Yeah, my mom was like well I won't be watching it. I was like ewww Mom u wanted to see it? She said yeah cuz one of those young boys in there was cute! LOL

=D yes she is 2 hawt 2 handle @ times! LOL we both fight over Channing Tatum, Ian Somerholder, & a few others that are old enough to be my dad or granddad but are still fine.

I also saw Sanctum and it was the same reaction. I think it was a decent movie to watch but not the greatest entertainment for me.
Hey that was quick. Tell me are these (Source Code and Limitless) out on DVD now? I've been so swamped I haven't even had the time to notice what's still in theatres and what's not. I'm not surprised about your feedback on both films -- kinda what I expected. I knew Source Code had to be interesting at the very least since Vera has a good eye for picking meaty roles (one of the reasons why I love her -- and she's a fierce woman too. Loved loved her as the badass senator in that movie starring Kate Beckinsale ... Nothing But the Truth?). Limitless ... well the only appeal for me was Bradley Cooper. When I heard about the story I was kinda ... meh.

So I saw a movie called Last Night, starring Sam Worthington and Kiera Knightley alongside Eva Mendes. It is about a supposedly happily married couple who embark upon separate affairs: one physical, one emotional.
Let me just say right off the bat: I absolutely hated it and wished I hadn't watched it. Usually I don't watch movies with Kiera Knightley, but I went ahead and saw this one anyway because of Sam Worthington. I thought it would be nice to see him do a normal role for a change rather than these blasted superhero movies. Plus he spoke in his Aussie accent and he sounded absolutely amazing.
Well, not even Sam and his hotness could save this one for me. It left me in a very foul mood. And not just because of the sensitive subject matter and how (poorly) it was dealt with, but also because I couldn't figure out what the heck the film was trying to say. There was much weakness in both the writing and the direction -- both of which took a very simplistic approach to a very complex subject matter. There wasn't much food for thought, just a somewhat voyeuristic view into the life of two people who are deceiving themselves and each other. The ending was so abrupt I was like "Huh, that's it???"
No proper resolution. No conclusion. I felt like I wasted my time and money. There was no sliver of hope, no indication that either of these people are better or will become better because of their actions.
Dreadful, absolutely dreadful. I will never get back those 90+ mins of my life and it pisses me off.

Recently I saw August Rush and wasn't very impressed. The story tugged at your heart strings, but depended far too much on compressed timing and convenient coincidences. It just seemed like the makers of the film needed at least another hour or so to do justice to the script. And a 3hr+ movie is just unheard of so ... all in all, it was just poorly written. There were certain events that I couldn't understand ... (view spoiler) . The set up for this film was just bad from start to finish.
Also saw Red Riding Hood and I thought there was nothing dynamic about it, aside from Catherine Hardwicke's signature sweeping aerial shots. It was a very one dimensional film.
Finally, Limitless, I agree with you, Samantha. The film sold itself as something BIG, but what you got was just meh. It was fun though revisiting Bradley Cooper and those gorgeous baby blues.

I also saw Surrogates with Bruce Willis. I'm not a sci-fi person but I did enjoy most of the film. It was creepy in parts. I also saw Easy A which I really end up liking.
I know I saw at least two other films but I can't remember what they were. I've been home sick since Friday evening so I guess the fever has gotten to my head. LOL

it is such a shame an aging actor needs an Academy Award they just throw it out.

I love the scene where Samuel L. Jackson is giving his pep talk...
"this is what we're going to do now .......
and the shark kills him in the middle of the movie!
And Michael that's the best scene in the movie. It's probably the only scene most people remember when you mention Deep Blue Sea. Loved it and I'm a huge Sam L. Jackson fan too.
Saw an oldie, but a goodie ... One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Like the first time I saw it back in the 80s it was a bit slow for me in parts, but with a strong lead like Jack Nicholson its hard to look away.
Life As We Know It -- cute, but really the way they just sort of take over the best friends lives as if they never existed was just too creepy. Josh Duhamel was fine to look at though. No complaints there.

Yeah that was one of the only time in movies when I literally jumped out of my seat. For God's sake you can't kill off a Samuel L Jackson! Totaly unexpected.

Steve Martin plays a con-artist faith healer named Jonas Nightingale who goes from town to town with his revival tent. He uses flim-flam and technology to con the townspeople into thinking he is curing them but he meanwhile bilking them of money for his collection plates. His Bus breaks down in a small town that is beset with problems. He and his band decide to set up their tent there while they are waiting for a part but find themselves getting really involved with the people and their problems.
Steve Martin is great in it, Debra Winger plays his matter-of-fact right hand. Meatloaf was a revelation and a bit of a straight man, Liam Neeson was, as usual, wonderful as a cynical sherrif who is determined to prove they are charlatans. And like I said, the Gospel music (he also travels with a full on, primarily African-American hallelujah choir) was great!
Great Movie.

Omg, E, you totally just made my day!!! LMAO!"
HAha! Ur welcome Sister mine =D

I love you, Man with Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones. It was a silly and fun movie. Took my mind off of being sick so that won cool points.
Iron Man-I've never wanted to see this movie and I'm glad I didn't pay for it. I wasn't impressed.
Slumdog Millionaire-It didn't live up to my expectations but it might be due to the fact that I was sleeping on and off during the movie.
I can't remember anymore...when I do, I'll post.
Amen, sister! LMAO!
