It's not likely. :) Most of the time, the #1 poster reigns as the #1 poster for a while.
1616. That's a pretty cool number! :) Ph, and my last number, 1159, was wroooong. And Kate, you should be in shock, because that's awesome!! :D
this post will make mine 84... kind of pathetic isn't it? I don't post very often. At least I didn't until I started playing all these games.
It's not all that pathetic, Kendra. Just butt into topics, its a good way to get more posts- and gain new friends.
You? What about me?! I am like insanely shy around people if I don't know them- and even if I'm not that close with them.Hey Kate, is your team going to the History Bowl?
No Rae, we were informed last Saturday that it's too expensive-it would cost about 5,000 dollars apparently, and the school isn't willing to pay that (I wonder why) despite the fact that Academic Challenge has actually brought in money for the school before. I'm very upset. Good luck to your team! It's almost here. Are you excited?4099
Aww, that sucks. We were gonna have to raise money for it, but we have a bunch in our account- we can take the trip and still have money left over. (We hold our own tournament every year as our big fundraiser, and in May we're holding a MS Tournament.) Of course to help save money, we're staying in the cheaper hotel instead of the 'official' Nat. History Bowl hotel, which is perfectly fine. So by doing that (although I think your school's estimates were a bit high), our basic cost is like $2000 plus the cost of lunches and dinners. But yeah, I'm VERY excited. I'm not playing- I get to be our team's official worker, but I know that it's still gonna be a lot of fun. Esp. since the government didn't shut down. :)
Yes, Rae, particularly since the government did survive. It should still be fun just to be there.Even if our school's estimate was high, which it probably wasn't given that we had at least 16 people plus two coaches, I found out yesterday that we have about $325 left in our account. Not quite enough even to get to DC. Personally, I think that if we had fund-raised since qualifying, and possibly paid some of it ourselves, we would have had a chance of going, but we didn't, so it's off to Boston for me. (we're visiting my sister in college)
Yay Natalie!
Oh, well that makes more sense with the amount of people going. Maybe its better that you couldn't go- there wasn't that much opportunity for site-seeing and the weekend seemed really rushed. We ended up 66 of 72, but we WERE up against some of the best teams in the country so it makes some sense. But my dad's pretty sure that we can be amazing next year- which we can be. But yeah. It was fun anyways. One of the other West Virginia teams that went (there were 5 of us), was the school that I could've gone to, and they ended up placing 2nd in the entire thing- which is great. And I'm just wondering if they'll be able to keep that status next year since their main player is a Senior this year. But:
Maggie Walker placed 1st (a Virginia team)
and Parkersburg High School got 2nd
You're gettin' there, Kendra! That happens, Natalie. And when you started out, you didn't really care about how many posts you had. You just posted.
You still beat 6 teams. Not bad. I'm sure that's about where we would have been too. Some West Virginian pride happening, I see? I bet you'll be more than amazing next year. Maybe you'll win. ;D
Well, points wise we did, we never won any of our games. :) We almost won our next-to-last game, but the other team (who also hadn't won any of their games) beat us by like 30 points. Which is perfectly fine- and they were good sports about it. I just wish they were our last team, because our last game was against a bunch of jerks who essentially rubbed it in our faces that they won. At the end a girl from my team and I asked them if they played PHS- they had. We asked them if they won "Yeah we played them." We're like "that's not what we asked you. did you beat them?" They hadn't.And I doubt we'll make first. Maggie Walker is a magnet school- which means that they're a public school, but with selective admission. So (I'm just guessing) if you have lower then an 'A' average, you most likely wouldn't be let in.
Well, that team is jerkish. Typical that they wouldn't answer your question straight up. Too bad they didn't answer the wrong question while you were playing them. How can they be public with selective admission? That doesn't make sense to me. Then again, I live in a town where your school is completely based on where you live in town.
Well, that's why they're called magnet schools. I'll look it up to be sure...... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet_s... That's pretty much what I understand about it.Yeah. Some people are jerks about things like that. Cause i mean, Maggie Walker wasn't mean about things- they kinda laughed with us when we told them to beat PHS. (they were our 4th round. the one right before lunch)
Oh I get it. I've heard of things like that before. Usually a magnet school focuses on a certain thing (I'm pretty sure my friend goes to an art-focused one), but I think only some are based on grades. If you know they're a magnet school, though, then you obviously know more about Maggie Walker than I do. Glad they're not jerks. I guess they'd have more of a right to be than the other team, if they're the best. we've played our share of nice and not-so-nice teams. The nice ones are so much more fun.
Yeah, my dad explained it to us after the game. And we knew going in that Maggie Walker is one of THE BEST TEAMS in the COUNTRY.They really are. There's a team in Ohio that comes to our tournaments sometimes (and others near us) that are 1st class jerks. They're the #1 team in Ohio I believe, but just because you're the best doesn't give you any right to be a jerk about it. PHS is the best in West Virginia, but they're perfectly nice. They don't brag or anything. It's just an accomplishment they've achieved- and they're happy to have done it.
