Welcome, Laura, Milos, Isabella, Ruby, Duane!

Dianne Hendricks Hi there!! I'm Dianne from West Michigan.

I am really looking forward to getting to know the classics. But i must admit..... i have a hard time with the 'proper English'. i just read "Les Mis" and have to confess it was the 'today's reader' version. i have tried to read the original texts on a couple of classics and have had a really hard time. Maybe because I am busy and want to know the 'quick and dirty' version of the story rather than the 850 page version. Anyways, i hope a group like this will help me learn to love the 'real' classics.

Nina | 449 comments Hi all, I am Nina, I love, love, love reading. I read most genres, with a special love for classics and am looking for some new inspiration. Looking forward to sharing opinions, recommendation, ideas, ...

message 1354: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Hi! My names's Michelle and I'm from Canada. I'm 16 years old and I absolutely love classics! My favourites would probably have to be Persuasion, Agnes Grey, and Little Dorrit.

message 1355: by Rin (new)

Rin Greer | 4 comments Hello! My name is Corin, but just call me Rin. I am seventeen years old, from North Carolina. Most of my life I've read YA novels, but the older I get the more I crave to read classic literature. The thing with YA is that it doesn't have a lot of figurative language, and because that's what I'm used to reading, I don't recognize it right away. I literally read the Great Gatsby and didn't recognize ANY figurative language, but now I see it lol. I've always prided myself on how much I read but I also would like to be proud of myself for what I read and how well I read. I hope by joining this group I can transition from YA to classics easily. :)

message 1360: by Raemi (new)

Raemi Hello! My name is Kinga, I'm 21 and I'm from Hungary. I read a lot in my teens, but in high school I almost stopped reading books altogether, and I'm kind of sad about that so I decided to join a book club here. Since I'm not really familiar with classics but I'd like to read something meaningful, I figured this could be an interesting club to join. I'm not sure if I can keep up with you guys all the time, because I'm a med student and I pretty much study day and night, but I'm going to try.
(Sorry for my English, my first language is Hungarian, and I only started to study English in high school so I'm not so good with the grammar.)

Welcome, Kinga. You can read with us when you have the time. I don't think any of us read every selection, so join us when you can. Do you read the books in English or Hungarian?

Welcome Kinga, your English is excellent!!

message 1363: by Raemi (new)

Raemi Emily: Mainly in Hungarian. I do read books in English occasionally, but I don't think I could handle a classic yet.

Arlene: Thank you very much!

Lee Hello. I go by the name Nienna and I'm from the US. I am a very avid reader and I read everything and anything. And I am looking to read more literature. I want to read my old favorites and books I know I should read but haven't gotten to.

Some of my favorite classics are Persuasion (which I'm currently reading), Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and more. And many more that I want to read.

Emily (emilymitton) | 6 comments Hello! I'm Emily and I'm from the US. I love to read a little bit of everything, but I love classics. My favorites are probably Wuthering Heights (although I know most people hate it), Anna Karenina, and Les Miserables. I'm looking forward to some group motivation to read some more classics!

Ray Hamonangan (rayhebat2010) | 1 comments Hello all. :)

And i'm trying to start to read another classics, maybe from US or UK too.

message 1370: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone!

I'm Christine, a 21 year old from South Australia. I absolutely love reading and enjoy books from all types of genres. I thought joining this group would be a good idea to get into some more classics, I've read a few but not enough for my liking! :) Some of my favourites so far are David Copperfield, Les Miserables and To Kill A Mockingbird. Looking forward to reading many more! :)

message 1371: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresanc) Hi, I'm Teresa from the US. I've read many classics over the years but only because I was forced in classes. Once I didn't have to, I moved onto contemporary, mystery, paranormal, etc. But, now that I'm retired I'd really like to read classics and try to appreciate them for the beauty of the language and writing style. I've already joined the To Kill A Mockingbird reading buddy group as it is one I've really been wanting to read.

message 1372: by Mike (new)

Mike Anastasia (mikeanastasia) | 1 comments Hello all,

My name is Mike and I'm on this site as part of a requirement for a graduate school symposium focused on classical literature (light bulb?)!

My definition of classical literature is probably 2,000 years older than most people in this group, but broadening one's horizons never hurts. I have a Master's degree in history and I'm getting another one in Education, so here's to hoping my time on here will be fruitful.

Social media isn't fun without friends and, as such, I like to add everyone I talk to so I can get a grasp of what's going on in the world. Social barometrics, if you will. Please feel free to add me (if I haven't already added you!) and we can talk about whatever.

My school book review twitter account is @MJABooks, and I'll follow anyone back who follows me.

I study at Temple University, love hockey and didn't read Harry Potter until last summer (the movies were forced on us in 5th grade and I couldn't stand the Sorcerer's Stone). Any other questions, feel free to ask!

message 1373: by Emsy (new)

Thiashya Hey there!

I'm Thiashya (pronounced tee-ash-ah) and I live in Hong Kong. Having had almost no free time during my last two years of high school, I am furiously trying to make up for it this summer. I read almost everything, but particularly enjoy classics and dystopian novels. Feel free to add me!

Ashley P. (ashhadans) I'm Ashley and I'm from Illinois and I'm trying my hardest to read through most of the "Classics You Must Read Before You Die" kind of lists.
My favorite so far is Jane Eyre. It took me about two days and I couldn't put it down!

Arlene Welcome Ashley!

message 1378: by Cecelia (new)

Cecelia | 1 comments Hi there! My name is Cecelia and I'm from CA. I love to read but haven't been able to read as much as I would like in the past few years. I was an English major in college so I've read classics but not for a while. I enjoy reading and discussing books so this board will help get me into some new books that my friends may not be reading. :)

Arvindh Mani (arvindhmani) Hey guys, I am Arvindh from Bangalore! 4 years of engineering college stifled my reading habit but ever since I started working I've tried my best to read a few pages of a book everyday, and I've done OK so far! I am currently reading "The Count of Monte Cristo" based on a vociferous recommendation ;)

message 1398: by Bob (new)

Bob Berry (sizeonehead) | 13 comments my name is Bob and I've been a near fanatical reader since Junior High ( I am now 50). i still read as much as I ever have but am also really slow in terms of awareness of what's going on in the virtual world (Think: 1999). I read as much now as I ever have. As far as classics, I live Dostoevsky but I also love Salinger. Humor and cynical existentialism are bot welcome in my book life. Really looking forward to this club. Tanks. Bob Berry
