Nicolle Welcome to the group Mars. I think reading classics can boost your grades in English, personally I think reading has enhanced my writing style.

Hello!!!
I'm Silvia from the Dominican Republic. I enjoy reading classics so i'm really exited about being part of this group. My favorites classics so far are Crime and Punishment, Pride and prejudice and The miserable ones.

message 554: by Courtny (new)

Courtny Newbie here. I've been reading classics for years, and I'm looking forward to having people to discuss them with. I'm going to start with the Dec group read by Dickens. Hopefully it will help me get into the Christmas spirit.

message 555: by [deleted user] (new)

welcome to all our newbies, and I hope all the regulars are doing well

message 556: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Bonjour Silvia et Luv2read!

I can't wait to read a bit of Charles Dickens myself. He is new to me!

message 557: by Courtny (new)

Courtny I have had mixed experiences with Dickens. I absolutely love David Copperfield, but I couldn't even force myself to finish Bleak House. Looking forward to A Christmas Carol though.

Lindsay (lnzkaye) | 2 comments Hello all! I'm Lindsay from Nebraska, US. I realized a few weeks ago that I'd been reading a lot of chick lit and fiction and such, which is not a bad thing...but I felt it was time for a little culture, and reading some classics seemed perfect! So here I am. I'm excited to get reacqainted with books that have been appreciated by multiple generations, and really excited that there's a group dedicated to it!

Welcome to all the new members!

message 560: by Lidiana (new)

Lidiana Hey guys...

My name is Lidiana and I'm from Brazil.

I'm taking my Masters in Literary Theory, which I suppose that shows how much I love literature. So, when I found Goodreads, it was like finding heaven because I love being able to read great literature and sharing this experience with others that have the same appreciation for books as I do.

I'm quite new here, so feel free to add me as a friend so we can exchange literary topics and have conversations about other topics, as well.

message 561: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hi Lidiana, I will add you as a friend! Hope you enjoy being part of our group and join i with group reads or even buddy reads.

message 565: by Nancy-Ann (new)

Nancy-Ann Hello! I'm Nancy-Ann and I'm from the US. I haven't read a lot of classics but I liked most of what I read. Gone With the Wind is my favorite. Of Mice and Men is another one. I remember that book hitting me hard and it was what got me to read other classics.

Right now, I'm finishing up The Hobbit, moving onto 1984, and will get to the Christmas Carol some time in December. I look forward to being able to read and discuss with everyone!

message 566: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Thanks for joining the group Nancy-Ann, you are a welcome addition!

message 567: by Jena (new)

Jena (outlanderfan74) Hi everyone,
I'm Rachel, from the U.S. When I started organizing my books into shelves on Goodreads, I realized I'd read more classics than I would have thought I'd read. I'm so happy to find this group, where we can discuss them in more detail. My favorite so far is "To Kill a Mockingbird", but "Gone With the Wind" is a close second.

message 568: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hey Rachel. Is Gone with the Wind the one which says "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn"? My dad says the movie is good.

message 569: by Jena (new)

Jena (outlanderfan74) Yes, that's the one, and the movie is wonderful!

message 570: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle I will have to watch/read it! (I have sooo many to watch and read there is not enough time!)

message 571: by Alex (new)

Alex (alackey90) Hi Everyone!

I'm Alex. I've always been interested in the classics and have read quite a few, but I'm new to bookclubs/goodreads groups, and since I'm a teacher just starting literature circles in my classroom, I thought there was no better way to learn (or teach) than by doing!

message 572: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hiya Alex! This is the perfect group for you...if you have any queries about goodreads groups don't hesitate to ask. Do you teach English??

message 598: by Katie (new)

Katie (parentek) Hello, I'm Katie from CT. I am hoping to read for myself more. Usually I don't have time to read anything but my textbooks for school. I want to read more of the the books I "should" know and be able to talk about. I plan on getting a good start on some classics over winter break. 1984 is one of my favorites.

message 599: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome to the group Katie...I hope that you enjoy the group, and I hope that you will join in on the Janary read...

I haven't read a textbook for school in sooo long, but I do remember how much I hated reading those...I think that has to be the only kind of books I don't like to read :)

message 600: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hiya Katie, enjoy the group!
