Sorry Lady Danielle, For Whom the Bell Tolls is the Spanish civil war one. The Italian ambulance driver is A Farewell to Arms. Hemmingway's choice of titles is just great.

Dana (dana999999) | 13 comments Hello, my name is Dana and I am new to this group. I live in Dallas, Texas. I discovered Goodreads a few weeks ago and I am hooked!

I am currently reading Pride and Prejudice. I have To Kill a Mockingbird on reserve at my local library to be picked up this next week. I joined this group because I was looking at the list of books I have read and realized that it was lacking in the Classic category.

I believe I have a lot to benefit from reading in this category. I am hoping that belonging to this group will make it more fun by reading other people's thoughts as well as posting my own concerning specific books. I must say that I am so enthralled in reading the book lists (Listopia) on this site and adding new books to read is coming between me and my current book list. ha!

Mirela (anenomeluv) Hi everyone, my name is Mirela, I'm a former marine and I love to read! :) I'm a huge fan of Goodreads! I use the site to connect with other readers and keep track of my books. I joined this group because reading classics can be challenging and I wanted to be able to connect with people who can help me understand them and of course just to talk about the best books ever written!

My favorite book is Villette by Charlotte Bronte. One of the best decisions in life was buying a Kindle, because all those great classics are free!

message 462: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Mirela glad that you like Goodreads and you like our group!!!!

message 463: by Mark (new)

Mark Hi all, My name's Mark and I'm in Texas, USA
I read a lot of Fantasy, sci-fi, and classic novels; I just finished :Dracula and thought it was wonderful, now I am working on: Atlas Shrugged

I just recently found this site and thought it'd be a great way to keep track of what I've read, get some recommendations, and meet some people with similar interests as myself. :)

message 470: by Emma (new)

Emma Hi everyone!

My name is Emma and I'm currently living in Cheshire, U.K. I'm addicted to reading but mainly read science and natural history as that is the field in which I have been educated and now work in.
I've joined this group because I used to love literature at school and am making a concerted effort to read more classics.

Dana (dana999999) | 13 comments Welcome Emma! I am new to the group too. I really like it and hope you will too.

Dana

message 472: by Danni (new)

Danni (danninella) Hi everyone,
I joined this group as my goal is to try and read as many books as possible on the "100 books you have to read in your life" list. I am not following one specific list, more a compilation of a number of lists. But many of them are classics and so I thought this would be a good group to be in.
As I don't have a lot of time to actually sit down and read I mainly listen to audiobooks (commuting by bike, good time to listen to books). I have found a lot of classics on audiobooks which is good.

Daniella

I'm new to this group, but just thought I would mention that I think that "the poisonwood bible" is a beautifully written book as is "prodigal summer"which is written by Barbara Kingsolver.

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Hi Laura, welcome to the group and have fun reading! Hey, I'm also a fan of Barbara Kingsolver and one of my favorites is The Poisonwood Bible which I read before summer. Haha.

Daniella, I'm not a fan of audiobooks but where do you usually download them or do you buy them online? Anyway, welcome to the group and feel free to share a link to that 100 something list you have. Hehe.

Hi Emma, welcome to the group and hey you had a nice pic there! Haha. And Dana, you got a pretty kitty as your profile pic! Welcome to the group guys!

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments I only read the Narnia series by Lewis and after that, I never tried to read one of his works because I was so disappointed by the series. Any recommendation from Lewis please? I stopped from reading Dracula, I mean I have to stop using my Nook for awhile. Hehe.

Why are you so disappointed with Narnia series? Im not done with the series yet, but I'm enjoying it so far because Im looking at Lewis' books in another perspective.

message 484: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments I don't know or maybe I don't like to share my opinion about the book. I was in high school when I read it and because also of the movie. Anyway, at least I'm asking for a recommendation this time. Any Lewis books to deal with? Hehe.

message 485: by Cary (new)

Cary (forestercary) | 22 comments I've only read one book of Lewis outside Narnia, The Screwtape Letters, also a classic and I like it so I'd like to recommend it.

message 491: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Hello everybody, new member here. :) I'm from the US, living in Chicago currently, and I am a bit of a classics nut - with an extra fanaticism on Shakespeare's work. Read The Hobbit in 4th grade (and many times since) and To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorites. I look forward to hangin with you all!

message 492: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hey Danielle, I really want to like Shakespeare but it is so hard when I don't know what it all means. Have you read Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead??

message 493: by Melissa (ladybug) (last edited Oct 02, 2011 10:25PM) (new)

Melissa (ladybug) | 30 comments Hello.

I am Melissa from the USA. I love all books, but my favorite classics are The Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, anything by Charles Dickens and Mark Twain. Actually there are too many to list. :D

message 494: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Hi Melissa, welcome to the group! I read The Chronicles of Narnia 3 years ago and I was so disappointed and most of my friends too. But I'll give the series a try because I was a baby that time. Haha. Feel free to ask question and discuss some books!

Hi Danielle, welcome to the group! Feel free to post comments, either harsh or not! Haha. We love to discuss classics here! Have fun!

Danielle Such a warm welcome. Thank you! Nicolle - I was lucky enough to have a mentor in high school who shared her love (and understanding) of The Bard. I have read it! I thought it was a brilliant idea, the change in perspective for such a well known story. I found it refreshing. The same idea as Wicked and such.

I may need your help in understanding it then. It is my exam topic this year!!

message 500: by Ochrasy (new)

Ochrasy Hi! I'm Luisa from Spain. Nice group! I'm starting with some classics like Oliver Twist or Tom Sawyer. One of my favourite classic authors is Jane Austen. I hope to get loads of ideas from this club, so thanks in advance!
