I've just discovered some obscure books from the 1960s that are reprints of a Swedish children's novels in English. I have #1 in the series but no way of proving that the others exist but I know you can buy them used on Amazon so they must exist, LOL! I guess I could use Wikipedia, as it lists the Swedish books? I'll see what I can find on fantasticfiction.co.uk. I also have some audio tapes I need to figure out what to do about.

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments I just have to vent. I am mad they are doing this.. Half if not more of my books have now lost the cover picture thanks to this stupid Amazon pull. I don't have time to go and find the pictures and replace them etc.. I love good reads but this could make me look elsewhere for a place to store and sort my books etc. There is going to be a lot of mad people unless they find a way to replace all the cover pictures with out expecting us to do it. Annoying!

message 103: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments I also want to say I know its not goodreads fault but its just really frustrating and time consuming. :(

message 104: by Camille (new)

Camille (camlovesraptors) | 802 comments I agree Abbie!

message 105: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) It is really frustrating, Abbie, and I'm not sure why Amazon are not allowing GoodReads to use their data anymore. I use BookMooch to swap books and they've been using Amazon's data for years and never had any problems.

Ladies, if you find any books that are missing covers and don't have time to search for them please post them here! I just spent 15 minutes looking for all the covers that showed up on my news feed. I'm only doing covers that I actually know what they look like as sometimes UK/US covers are totally different and I don't want to use the wrong one. But seriously, I'm off classes for a week and have nothing to do other than read and do housework. So post any titles you've discovered have lost their pictures and I'll have a little search since I have a lot of time on my hands :)

I would not know where to start Rachel so many of mine have lost covers!

A Life of Joy by Amy Clipston is one that is not showing up on mine.

The Christmas Quilt I'm just listing Amish Fiction for oyu Rachel.

message 108: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments I fixed those two for you. I have a pretty quick system to fix the covers may not be legal relative to how they want us to do it but if they give me crap well I can take my book collection elsewhere. I realize Amazon is being a pain about this I read what caused it last night but I think some warning would have been nice.

message 109: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Just had a look at these two and looks like maybe someone got to them while you were posting them? The pictures seem to be showing up, yay! But I'll keep looking on my shelves too.

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments My shelf is horrible I want to cry.. It is going to take me a while to get them all fixed. I hate that now kindle is almost the enemy here. Some people in the librarian group where like screw Amazon boycott etc.. Well I'm sorry I like amazon over all even if I think they are being over the top about there AI or whatever its called. I think they are doing this because they have a similar site to goodreads which is not as popular. I think they are taking away from themselves by getting all big business on goodreads but it is what it is right?

Ah, okay, that makes sense. I think they own either Shelfari or Librarything? I think GoodReads figured out a way to save the Kindle editions, in the end, which is a good thing. I'm not going to boycott Amazon just because they took away their data from GoodReads. They have amazing customer service and prices that I can actually afford. It's a small price to have to edit all the photos!

message 114: by [deleted user] (new)

I know this is Amazon's decision and Goodreads members are going to be angry with them. If it comes down to people wanting me to make a choice between boycotting Amazon (which will happen NEVER...I LOVED Amazon even before I purchased my Kindle!) and Goodreads, I'll leave GR in a heartbeat and not look back. I've been think of leaving anyway!

Yeah they own Shelfari which is actually okay. I agree its not that big a deal just time consuming. I just about cried though last night when I came on to update something and saw 50% of my covers where gone.

Yeah I was looking at Shelfari last night and they have done some work to it and its not half bad. I am not leaving goodreads yet but this makes me not love them as much.

message 117: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Just read this on the Librarian group, looks like they have a news source that will be importing covers soon?

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...

Maybe we should wait and see if some of our covers get replaced before changing too many of them.

message 118: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe I'll just go back to Shelfari and be done with it. I was with Shelfari for a while and then came to GR. Maybe it's time to change back!

I do like goodreads shelving system better and the groups so for now I am not going anywhere. I might switch what widgets I use on my blog though if the cover thing does not get figured out over time.

message 123: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments Ugh the other thing I wish Goodreads did was if someone uploaded a picture for one edition of a book it would be used for all editions. A lot of the other sites like that do this and I wish they would. Instead of having editions just have one and let the person pick an edition(like shelves or something) even have a default since most people either read paper or ebook which of course one could change. Sorry for all the complaining just want to shake the computer right now. lol

I know what you mean, I wish there was an option to make the same cover available for Kindle/Nook etc. But not ALL editions because some books have different covers in different countries. But when there are three different ebooks to give covers too...bleh.

But yeah, I wouldn't leave GoodReads. It has all my book ratings from years back and I have great friends here :)

message 125: by Camille (new)

Camille (camlovesraptors) | 802 comments I bet as they work through this transition, things will sort themselves out with the cover issue. It's sort of a mess right now, but often big transitions are a bit messy until things get sorted through and worked out.

message 126: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (weatherlover1) | 240 comments I know. :) I was just venting. In the end its not a huge deal. Goodreads really has the best layout of the sites similar to it. I was over at Shelfari(looking up some stuff) and its not not as good as here. I have just spent time uploading covers in the past(we all have!) and to see them be deleted and us have to reupload them made me mad at first. I will get over it. :p

message 127: by Rebecca (last edited Feb 15, 2012 07:40AM) (new)

Rebecca Diane,
The Daughters of Jacob Kane series by Sharlene MacLaren lists under more books that the order is Hannah, Maggie, Abbie. Under the series it is listed as Abbie, Maggie, Hannah.

message 128: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) Rebecca, I made the changes but it says that it could take 10 minutes to see them. Let me know if it's still wrong.

message 129: by Kate (last edited Feb 22, 2012 11:28AM) (new)

Kate (liahonagirl) I just remembered that we have Librarians in this group! :) I was in the process of adding An Amish Gathering: Life In Lancaster County to my currently-reading list, but then I got confused as to if this was the same book I was reading, as it listed information that didn't match what I was reading.
I then realised that the information for An Amish Christmas: December in Lancaster County somehow ended up being put as the information for 'An Amish Gathering'. Could someone fix this please? :)

message 130: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (SharonTroyCentanne) | 1 comments How does one become a Goodreads librarian please? I am a church librarian and am trying to put my entire collection on here. So far, I have added about 500 books, but have about 3000 more to enter...Thanks!

An Amish Gathering: Life In Lancaster County

Started reading this book and I do not believe the little paragraph describes this book? Any librarian want to check and see. I think it is talking about An Amish Christmas?

I believe you're right. Here's what I found on amazon...

Three heartwarming tales of old friends and new beginnings that span one year in an Amish community.

A Change of Heart by Beth Wiseman

Leah is no good at cooking, cleaning, sewing, gardening--the skills that young women need to make a proper Amish wife. All she wants to do is write stories, but she's sincerely tired of being a disappointment. Will she ever find someone who accepts her just as she is? And can an almost-Amish angel in red polka dots help her find her way?

A Place of His Own by Kathleen Fuller

When Josiah left Paradise the first time, he didn't even say good-bye. Now he's back, ten years later, and he's changed. Why is he so distant and bitter? Where is the boy who used to be Amanda's best friend? Amanda is learning that there are things even a capable Amish girl can't fix. But can she stand there and watch him walk away...again?

When Winter Comes by Barbara Cameron

It's been too long since Rebecca has done what she loves--put on her skates and fly across the ice. Five years have passed since a winter accident took her twin Lizzie and left Rebecca heartbroken. And Ben has waited for her all that time. At last she's starting to heal. But has too much time passed for their hearts to reconnect?

Could someone add it? I'd like to include in my Ney Galley list.

Thanks in advance.

In working on my A-to-Z Challenge, I found a book by Xavier Finkley on Amazon. It's a children's book & felt a little like cheating, but I did it anyway. Could someone add "A if for Ketchup (A Silly Children's Alphabet book)"? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Here's the link to it on amazon... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008...

Could someone add these two books to the Brides of Amish County Series?

A Home for Hannah
A Hope Springs Christmas

Thanks!

message 144: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Okay, a regular non-librarian can add editions with cover photos but can't change or add cover photos to an existing addition, I'm supposing? And does anyone know why some cover photos you can see when you look at it small under other editions but is broken when you try and see it big or in your own book shelf?

I heard that Amazon bought out Goodreads. If this is true can you add covers from Amazon now?

If so will you add this one?

and this one they are condensed kid versions with pictures of the books.
