Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I'm sad it's not available at Amazon for the Kindle, too.

message 5: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments I checked it out and can't find it anywhere as an e-book. Does anyone else know if it's available anywhere else in ebook format?

message 6: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin (ben21) It's not on iBooks or nook either.

message 7: by Goo (new)

Goo (goob) | 11 comments I bought this through Amazon (paperback version) and so far it's a very interesting read. I couldn't find it in Nook (or any ebook) format.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments A dark and intellectual critique of the more decadent aspects of both Japanese and American culture as well as the darker side of humanity in general, this book was well written and I walked away with plenty to think about. If you like the dark stuff, this one is worth looking at. Fair warning - there's really nothing happy here. Just darkness.

Erica (bookpsycho) | 256 comments I really liked the character, Frank! His logic towards the end made sense. Wonder what that makes me? Pretty twisted book.

message 11: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Why isn't that available in the U.S.?

message 12: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments I imagine that it will be available in Kindle format in America sometime soon. It's all a matter of agents and publishers and making foreign deals and such crap.

message 13: by Steven (new)

Steven (rridalin) | 122 comments I am starting the last chapter today. Thus far, I think the book's plot and underlying tone are complementary to each other and present an interesting work. I have read books where to tone and ploy did not sync...those were terrible books. The character development was somewhat lacking I thought; the book dives straight into the plot with little build-up for a climax.

I have a specific complaint about some of the main character's assumptions, but do not want to be a spoiler.

Steven (rridalin) | 122 comments I haven't read the end yet, but now I'm really excited about seeing what Frank's logic was. That's one thing that had been tormenting for the first 120 pages or so.

hope it doesn't disappoint!

message 16: by Angela (new)

Angela (innae) I finished last night, and the book left me wondering...I think I wanted more from the ending, but I am still mulling everything over, so....

Lori | 1318 comments It's been a while since I read this one, and of course I gave my copy away :( But I remember being very underwhelmed by the ending.

message 18: by D4ngerousBeans (new)

D4ngerousBeans | 122 comments Just finished this last night , for me it was a total dissapointment , I not even sure what the author was trying to say with this book ,What was the ending about I have no idea , I doubt i would read anything else by him after this one tbh.

message 19: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I remember "getting" the ending and the miso soup reference when I first read it, but now I can't remember what I concluded. There's a paragraph at the end that tries to sum up the miso soup thing. Maybe that society is murky and dangerous with bits of good and bad floating around in it? Wish I had the book on me.

message 20: by Mark (new)

Mark Ko | 0 comments Found the book interesting as a criticism of Japanese sex culture but not as a horror novel.

message 21: by Erica (new)

Erica (bookpsycho) | 256 comments I found it interesting how the killer rationalized horror novels/movies. Reading it or watching it helps quell the "urges" people may have, and that without it, there would be more murders and the like. I'm sure some people would disagree, saying horror perpetuates violence. IDK

message 22: by Amy (new)

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments I was impressed by this book.

message 23: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments That scene in the bar was mind blowing.

message 24: by Amy (new)

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments It was. I was going to whip out my copy and re-read the ending with the miso soup reference.

message 25: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I had to read that passage a few times before I got it.
