message 603: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I picked up Lisa Genova's Still Alice today. Genova has a PhD in neuroscience and this is her first novel. Its about a woman's slow and knowing descent into Alzheimer's. Sounds dreary and terrible but its mesmerising and wonderful.

Last night I also started The Lovely Bones. I think I could have stayed up all night reading it. What a very odd persective for a book, can't wait to get further into it.

message 628: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (sianin) I am reading (aloud to my son) Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea; Ella Minnow Pea A Novel in Letters and The Lost City of Z A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon

20,000 leagues will take me a long time and I ahve to say that I am amazed that my 7 year old son is sticking with it so well as at times it is a tedious read aloud but none-the-less an interesting and remarkable book.

Ella Minnow Pea I am reading for another group on GR

Lost City of Z I borrowed from my mom and I am hoping that I will enjoy this true adventure(s) recent and historic.

This is my first Verne book although of course I know so many of his stories. My son is in french immersion so even in grade 1 they start learning about him and get to see some of the films.

I will read more but perhpas not aloud. ;)

message 649: by Wild for Wilde (new)

Wild for Wilde (wildforwilde) | 17 comments I am reading "Anna Karenina" -- its very, very good but long...I'm actually reading it on eBook which is a new experience for me but I really like it. I found Anna Karenina on this website: www.booksonboard.com at a really reasonable price. They also have the titles we are reading for June and July. You should check it out if you like eBooks or audiobooks.

message 650: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (sianin) Still reading 20,000 Leagues, but also finishing Three Men in a Boat and have started Anansi Boys (because I was curious about the author not having read anything of his before and a goofy personality quiz pegged my soul as a match to Gaiman as an author).
